Three Ring Circus

Well time for my first post on here. I have been going over some of the research on the candidates over at the Iowa Brigade site. I have been going over the information on the three Republican candidates for Iowa 2nd Congressional District who are vying the opportunity to challenge Democratic Incumbent Dave Loesback. You would think that with this type of competition that you would have one good conservative candidate amongst the challengers for this nomination. Well guess what, in my honest opinion, the candidates in this race more closely resemble the clowns that one would see at a three ring circus. Let us examine these candidates a little more closely.
Marianette Miller-Meeks is a RINO in the purest sense of the word. She has only recently become a Republican, perhaps this is because as a Democrat she couldn’t hope to defeat Loesback in a Democratic nomination. This is definitely a disturbing piece of information. She has shown no indication that she would support the Republican Party platform, after all, if she did that she couldn’t support abortion. Another disturbing development comes from her website, she fails to make any mention of some core conservative principles. There was no mention of her stance on abortion, no position taken on family issues, and no mention of education. There is no indication that she would advocate for a these traditional Iowa values. The core issues for Ms. Miller-Meeks; according to her website; are pushing for a regional healthcare system, reform social security, revitalize the GI bill, reconstruct the tax code, security, energy, environment, and economy. This does not seem to be a platform that promotes traditional Iowa values.

Peter Teahen is the next candidate on our hit list. On the outside Teahen seems to be the type of candidate that real Iowa conservatives can support. But once you get into the meat of his positions he just another wannabe that is posing as a Republican. It has been brought to light that he changes his party affiliation like most people change their undies. In addition it has also been determined that he has donated funds to the campaign of a Democratic candidate for Congress. Hmmm. Does this sound like someone that should be attempting to win the nomination for a Republican seat. Then we come to Mr. Teahen’s positions on issues on his website. The following are the issues that are important to him; elimination of wasteful spending, tax cuts, securing Americas borders, energy independence, commitment to military service personnel, elimination of the Death Tax, line item veto authority for the President, smaller government, and health care reform. As you can see Mr. Teahen’s list of issues does not cover traditional Iowa values. Perhaps Mr. Teahen is actually related to Ms. Miller-Meeks.

Now we will go over Lee Harder. You would think that with the first two candidates that I discussed turned out to be RINO’s, you would assume that Mr. Harder would be the one good candidate in the bunch. I don’t believe that to be the case here. Yes Mr. Harder does hold that abortion is wrong no matter what the situation. This is a truly Iowa value, but I feel that there is other things that disqualify Mr. Harder from the seat that he is attempting to run for. The other issues that he feels strongly about include supporting the War on Terror, energy security, securing the border, freedom, and the right to keep and bear arms. He does have one position that coincides with traditional values, however I do feel that because he lacks the other two he is a less desirable candidate. In addition to this Mr. Harder has taken a page out of the Mitt Romney playbook by attacking his opponents on a variety of issues. This is a big turnoff as most Iowans appreciate a cleanly run campaign that highlights the candidates ideas and plans rather than their opponents negative aspects.

After researching these candidates I came to the conclusion that there really is no candidate in the District 2 race that is worth supporting. Miller-Meeks might as well be a Democrat, the same can be said for Teahen, while Harder seems to think that he is a little Mitt Romney. When will the Iowa GOP get a clue and recruit candidates that people will want to vote for, because these three are the three largest clowns in the three ring circus.
