2ND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Our choices here are not good: Teahen, a man whose resume is inflated, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, a woman in sheep’s clothing, and Lee Harder, a candidate who has indulged in negative campaigning.

At first I thought I could not stomach voting for any of the above. Then I decided Mariannette Miller-Meeks is the foulest of impostors, a scientifically oriented, progressive type who does not adhere to traditional Republican tenets, no matter how skillfully she talks to mislead us. It would be a disaster to have her represent us and our party in Washington, so I decided to vote against her.

There are too many questions about Teahen’s biography to vote for him, he seems to have misrepresented himself (although in a more heavy handed way than has Miller-Meeks) and besides, like Miller-Meeks, his convictions are suspect: some of them appear to be very newly acquired.

So by process of elimination, I am going to vote for Lee Harder. He may have some personality problems but so do the other two– in fact in my opinion they have CHARACTER problems. At least Harder speaks his mind, and we know that he has convictions and what his convictions are. Voting for Lee Harder is a vote against Miller-Meeks, but more important, voting for Lee Harder may serve to send a message that the platform of The Republican Party MUST be upheld.

The Day of Reckoning is Upon Us

June 3rd is the day of reckoning for many politicians across our fair state. For those of you that are calender challenged or deprived, that is tomorrow. Tomorrow the fates of dozens of political candidates both Democrat and Republican will be decided. We will cast our ballots for the candidates that we feel would best represent the districts from which they come from. The polls open at 7 AM and close at 9 PM, so you don’t have an excuse to not vote in the primary. Of course before you head out to your polling place you had better make sure that it is in the same location because several polling locations have changed due to the flooding that is taking place around the state. You can check for you polling location at the following link: http://www.sos.state.ia.us/elections/VoterReg/PollingPlace/search.aspx

Now on to the rest of this post. I have made my decision as to who I am going to vote for, as well as explain who I hope you will vote for tomorrow. First the candidate for US Senate that I am going to vote for is Christopher Reed. I feel that he is the candidate that can beat Harkin in November, he has no baggage or record for Harkin to attack. I also feel that Reed is the candidate that will not shy away from taking shots at Harkin’s liberal record as our US Senator. Chris Reed has also been the most forthright and accessible candidate during this race which bodes well for his future in the US Senate. These are just a few of the reasons that I will be at my polling place at seven in the morning waiting for the doors to open so I can cast my vote for Christopher Reed for US Senate. This is the only Republican Primary that is taking place in my district other than for the Sheriff and I don’t like either one of them so I am abstaining from voting in that race.

Now I hope that I don’t start lecturing you, but I am going to throw out the candidates in other districts that I would vote for if I had the opportunity or those that I would  ignore or abstain from voting for.  The only Republican US House of Representatives primary this year is for the 2nd District where the winner will go on to challenge Loebsack in November. Of course I subscribe to the Operation Extinction theory that I will not support a candidate that shares not just my views, but my convictions. And to be brutally honest that does not exist in the 2nd District. All the candidates in this primary are clowns impersonating Republicans. Of course I know that not everyone shares my views, that is fine, but I intend to send a message to these morons that want to run our country. When Loebsack, Harder, Teahen, and Miller-Meeks wins the seat it will truly be a case of the inmates running the asylum. This primary gets an abstentions from me.

Then there is the Iowa Senate District 18. This is the District that kept returning the Queen RINO, Mary Lundby, to the Statehouse election after election. So it is obvious that these voters seem to be easy to fool. I hope that they don’t have the wool pulled over their eyes in this years primary. If they do then District 18 may be represented by an unresponsive candidate. In this race I support Joe Childers for the nomination. I feel that he has the right convictions and experience to help lead Iowa forward out of the nightmare that has overtaken our state.

In Iowa House District 41 I have to support Adam Vandall. His opponent Susan Schmidt is another unresponsive candidate that we just could not find much information on. Of course she probably likes it that way. Adam on the other hand has been very forthcoming and honest with our members that have contacted him. Based upon his answers and comments he is a true conservative that will fight to defend the values that we hold dear.

Erik Helland from House District 69 is another candidate that I wish I could vote for, but alas he’s not in my district. Erik is a great candidate that has been endorsed by a variety of solid conservative organizations, such as Iowa Right to Life Committee. Erik is a strong defender of good, honest, and moral values, convictions that he shares with us. For this he gets my nod for District 69.

These are some of the candidates that I will vote for or that I wish that I could vote for. For those that I cannot vote for, I hope that you will. We need these good, honest, ordinary, everyday Iowans in our government. We need them in Congress to turn back the liberal policies that are dragging our state and our country down the road to ruin. Please support these candidates as I do, so that they can go to Congress to do our bidding. Please vote for morality and decency tomorrow.

Voting for Christopher Reed

I’ve been pretty sure ever since I heard Reed speak at The district Two Convention that I was going to vote for him. I had a gut feeling he was the one, and I have found nothing in all my research to dissuade me. I was going to write something but found a piece in The Coralville Courier, which has endorsed him. I couldn’t say it any better or more succinctly:

May 31, 2008

The Coralville Courier Endorses Reed for U.S. Senate

In watching the latter half of the GOP Primary Senate debate last night on IPTV, it was obvious – George Eichhorn is a politician, and Chrisopher Reed is not. If Steve Rathje had bothered to show up, there would be a comment about him as well.

Eichhorn gave answers a politician gives, Reed did not. That’s a slam on career politician mentality, not on Reed’s intellect. Both men are capable, but if you were to put a wager on who would best represent the interests of Iowans, put your money and your vote on Reed.

Christopher_reedThat’s what’s appealing in this primary race, Iowans have a chance to send new blood to Washington, as our founding fathers intended. Career politicians are exactly what’s wrong with Washington, they no longer listen to people and sadly they’re out of touch. We need more farmers and common sense in Washington, not more lawyers and legalese angle approaches to issues.

Here’s another appeal: Eichhorn waves his list of legislator endorsements as a banner to show us he’s capable of dealing and negotiating with liberals. Reed doesn’t want to negotiate, he wants to DEFEAT liberals and their ways. He rejects their premises, and that’s the kind of leader we need in Washington.

For those of you still unfamiliar with Mr. Reed, here is his campaign website: www.christopherreed2008.com

I am expecting great things from this young man and I do not think I am going to be disappointed.

The District 18 Horse Race

Iowa’s Senate District 18 is the site of another Republican primary battle. This primary is between candidates Joe Childers and Karla Sibert. Of course the Iowa Brigade sent questions to both candidates to assist us in making a decision as to who would make the better candidate to challenge the Democrat for the seat left vacant by retiring Senator Mary Lundby.

For Karla Sibert the only information that we have been able to gather is from her website and a letter from one of her supporters. As stated before we have sent Ms. Sibert questions regarding a variety of issues, including some not listed on her website. For the life of me I cannot understand why the woman did not want the free advertising that we have provided for the candidates via the blog. Of well it’s her own foot she is shooting. When one looks at Ms. Sibert’s website you can see that she does have positions on a variety of issues, however her website is lacking a few issue that I feel are a must for the Republican Party. She does not have a position or conviction on abortion, she does feel that children and elderly must be predicted, but there is no mention of the unborn. This is a very troubling prospect for me. She states that she wants to make the State of Iowa’s school system the number one in the nation again, yet she does not appear to have a plan to accomplish this lofty goal. She does not even provide her opinion on what is wrong with the school system as it is now. In essence her website is full of platitudes and offers no real solutions only words and promises. I could have overlooked this development if she had responded to our repeated requests for answers. Unfortunately she decided that she did not need to answer questions from people that just might have been allies in her quest.

Ms. Sibert is being challenged by a lawyer from Marion, IA by the name of Joe Childers. So far we have found Mr. Childers to be the opposite of Ms. Sibert, he has been open and seemed to be perfectly honest with us. Among some of the answers that he has provided us with are the assertion that he is pro-life, whereas we do not know about his opponent. Mr. Childers has made the claim that he will fight for traditional families and traditional marriage. With Ms. Sibert we just don’t know, I almost wonder if she would know herself. When you look at Mr. Childers website, it is well developed and contains numerous issues that have been well thought out, exactly the opposite of the website for Ms. Sibert’s website. Mr. Childers has backed up the responses that he has provided us with by having a well designed website that details his values and what he believes in.

Of course Mr. Childers could be blowing smoke at us, but somehow I do not believe that is the case. I think that he is an honorable man that is both moral and intelligent. His opponent Karla Sibert may be a good woman, but she has lost this horse race through inaction and silence. If she had responded to us she may have won my support, but that is enough ifs. If this was the Kentucky Derby she would have just been blown away by the underdog. On June 3rd I hope that District 18 sees the light and votes for the winner of the horse race, Joe Childers.
