Culver Has A Plan????

I was scanning my morning email when the title to a news article caught my attention. The article in the Sioux City Journal is titled “Culver: Flood recovery won’t force other cutbacks“. Now I am sitting here at my computer thinking, okay then if we need more money for the flood recovery efforts where is it going to come from. Then I dig into the article some more and come across the information that he will not cutback on some of Iowa’s new spending programs. Hmm. I am thinking what is he planning to do? Perhaps he is planning on raising taxes, we know that Culver just loves to raise taxes, he is a good little Democrat that way. After all we have been hearing rumblings that he wanted to raise the gas tax to help pay for the necessary recovery efforts. Just a little bit further in the article Culver ruled out that possibility.
Finally Governor Culver comes out and states that he would entertain the authorization to let the state borrow money. At this point I am thinking, all this suspense and this is all you can come up with. Come on Chet, use a little bit of imagination here. Find some creative ways to save the State of Iowa some money. Of course he has simply reverted to one of the Democrats favorite methods of fixing things, borrow money. It is beginning to appear that Culver’s favorite words are tax, spend, and borrow.
Now we all know that currently the State of Iowa is not in debt nor has been in debt. This is a status that we should strive to maintain, not rush headlong into the abyss. It has seemed like the Democratic majority in the Iowa government has been itching to borrow some money, so they can spend it like drunken sailors. If you are opposed to the state of Iowa going into debt, and would rather see the state reduce some of the wasteful spending that has been typical of this administration, call you legislators and governor to tell them you don’t want more unbridled and reckless spending.
It will be interesting to see how Culver handles the flood. 2010 is not that far away!
