Catching Wild Pigs

The following is an analogy that I received in an email. I find that this is a very accurate depiction of what is happening in the United States today. I found it so strikingly similar that I had to share it with you.

Catching Wild Pigs

A chemistry professor in a large collegeĀ had some
exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in
the lab the Professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who
kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The
student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been
shot while fighting communists in his native country who were
trying to overthrow his country’s government and install a new
communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and
asked a strange question. He asked, ‘Do you know how to catch
wild pigs?’

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch
line. The young man said this was no joke. ‘You catch wild pigs
by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the
ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the
free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a
fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming.
When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn
again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to
that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all
four sides of the fence up with a gate in The last side. The
pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the
gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.
Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run
around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon
they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it
that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for
themselves, so they accept their captivity.
The young man then told the professor that is exactly what
he sees happening to America . The government keeps pushing us
toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the
form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for
unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments
not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc.. While we
continually lose our freedoms — just a little at a time.
One should always remember: There is no such thing as a free
lunch! Also, a politician will never provide a service for you
cheaper than you can do it yourself.
Also, if you see that all of this wonderful government
‘help’ is a problem confronting the future of democracy in
America , you might want to send this on to your friends. If you
think the free ride is essential to your way of life then you
will probably delete this email, but God help you when the gate
slams shut!
In this ‘very important’ election year, listen closely to
what the candidates are promising you !!
Just maybe you will be able to tell who is about to slam
the gate on America
‘A government big enough to give you everything you want, is
big enough to take away everything you have.’ – Thomas Jefferson

Kudos, Christopher Reed!

It was with great delight and appreciation that I read on Christopher Reed’s website blog about his experience at the protest rally in Postville, IA this past Sunday.

I will share here that Chris writes that he was the only politician/candidate to be at Postville and stand with “about 75 Americans who were simply there to demand enforcement of our laws.”

How refreshing- a politician that will actually take a stand- and with the smaller group and against the bussed in demonstrators from other states! Christopher proved that he has a backbone, that he is not afraid of showing Iowans and others that he is passionate about an issue that is important to many of us.

In stronger words: Christopher Reed is proving that he is a leader with character!

Iowa voters we need Chris Reed.

What are you doing to support his candidacy?

Presidential Comparison Part 2-Illegal Immigration (cont.)

It is now time for the second installment of the presidential comparison series. In this installment we are going to compare the third party candidate’s positions and convictions on immigration. This will then conclude the first issue that we will discuss. The candidates that are going to be included in this installment include Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin, and Ralph Nader. None of these three candidates are well known around the country, but they have the potential to make their presence felt. The first candidate that we are going to discuss is former Representative Bob Barr.

Bob Barr

When one checks out Bob Barr’s campaign site, it is well laid out with the information that you are searching for fairly easy to find. According to Barr’s website the immigration problem that America is faced with is due to many illegal immigrants and not enough legal immigrants. He goes on to state that both of these issues need to be addressed by the government. I cannot disagree with him on that point. Mr. Barr then proceeds to make the claim that our border can never be completely closed, but he does state that in order for the US to address the immigration issue that the border needs to be secured to its fullest extent. He also claims that illegal immigration cannot exist at the same time as a “fair and enforceable immigration policy”. He calls for an end to government benefits and services such as the 1982 Supreme Court decision that mandated that the US provide education for illegal immigrants. He also claims that public and private hospitals are forced to treat illegal immigrants. This is done at a cost to actual legal immigrants and other US taxpayers. He states that it is his belief that taxpayers should be forced to subsidize illegal immigrant’s healthcare. He believes that these benefits draw illegal immigrants into the United States.

Mr. seems to understand the problems facing America in regards to immigration and he seemed to understand what it would take to fix the problem. However he has fallen short on offering a solid plan to rehabilitate America’s immigration policies. All in all though his ideas far outstrip Barack Obama’s because Barr actually understands the problems facing us and the general path that we will need to take to climb out of the hole that we have created for ourselves.

Chuck Baldwin

The next candidate that is facing the firing squad is Chuck Baldwin. Unfortunately Mr. Baldwin’s campaign website does not include an issues page and does not inform people what his positions are on the various issues including immigration issues. So I would personally not consider Mr. Baldwin a serious candidate, if he was his site would have been much better designed than it is.

Ralph Nader

The perennial third party candidate is Ralph Nader. It never fails that Nader would opt to run for office again, especially after losing two elections in a row. The gut must be a glutten for punishment because he has never had a real chance to win the presidency then or now. Nevertheless he is running so I will detail the information that he has provided on the issues.

When one checks on Mr. Nader’s website it is loaded with issues, however there seems to be at least one missing from the issues page; illegal immigration. It is rather disturbing to see a presidential candidate that ignores one of the biggest problems facing the country today. But that is exactly what Nader’s website does, it fails to recognize illegal immigration as a problem facing our country.

Closing

In closing it is obvious what candidate ruled the day in this threesome. That would be Bob Barr. Now between him and the other three, I would have to say that finding his understanding of the problem is miles ahead of Senator Barack Obama, but no where as detailed as the one that McCain has up on his website. I would have to give proclaim a tie between Bob Barr and John McCain with Obama coming in a distant third. Well that is all for now, I hope that you found this post informative and helpful. If there are any questions please feel free to ask.
