Change That We Can Trust

Both national conventions are now over and the presidential candidates have chosen their running mates. The nominees choice of running mates outlines just how committed each is to bringing about a positive change for America.

How about we start with Barack Obama’s choice of Joe Biden for his running mate? For the last year Obama has been championing change that we can believe in. His choice of Joe Biden for a running mate cancels out this message of change. Here we have one of the most politically inexperienced presidential candidates to grace the national stage. The intelligent choice of candidate would have been a relatively fresh faced governor for his running mate. Instead Obama chooses a running mate that has been a Senator even longer than he has as well as one that has had no executive experience either. This choice of running mate is troublesome because neither Obama nor Biden have ever run anything, zip, zilch, nada. How can America expect these two politicians to run the country when they have no experience running anything else? It is ludicrous. For a running mate Senator Obama should have selected a fresh faced governor to illustrate his commitment to change. Instead he chose a Senator that has been in Congress longer than he has. How can Obama say that he wants to bring about change when he chooses a Senator that has a longer history in Washington? This choice indicates that his message of change and renewal are nothing more than campaign slogans that he really does not believe himself. Unfortunately a good many Americans have fallen for this modern day snake oil salesman from Chicago. The Democratic ticket that was once so promising is now on the verge of faltering. Obama has made poor decisions lately and they are reflected in the polls with Obama’s poll numbers falling.  The poor decisions that Obama has made in recent weeks has shown that his is not change that we can believe in, but instead it is deception that we can believe in.

On the other side of the political spectrum we have the Republican ticket that Obama has made every attempt to tie to the current administration. Not only is this characterization patently false, it is disingenuous. Any American that has followed politics even remotely for the last eight years knows that Senator McCain has butted heads with President Bush more often than most Democrats. One of the chief criticisms that people have leveled at John McCain is that he is and has been a Senator for a long time. The Obama campaign has tried to paint him as a Washington insider. That criticism became a moot point the day that he chose Sarah Palin for a running mate. This pick negated the Washington insider attacks because Palin is everything that Obama/Biden is not. A fresh faced outsider that is a reformer to boot. Unlike Obama/Biden’s status quo politics, Palin actually has a record of being a reformer. She defeated the incumbent Republican governor of Alaska in the primary and then she defeated a two time Democratic governor to win the governorship of the State of Alaska. This gives Palin what no one else in the race has, executive experience. When we couple this executive experience with McCain’s Congressional experience what we get is something that the Democratic ticket cannot hope to match. We get change that we can trust. I hope that you will join me in supporting John McCain and Sarah Palin for President/Vice President in November. And remember that this ticket brings us change that we can trust.

    Excellent post, commoniowan!

It was very helpful to me as I seem to be caught up lately in a swirl of topics not directly related to the candidates’ records.

Thank you for bringing a comparison of FACTS to the discussion and thank you for your objectivity.
