Palin: someone new that people love to hate

Does it hurt anyone else that Sarah Palin seems to be replacing President Bush as the person that people love to hate?

Do any of you ever have a sad, sick feeling wash over you when you hear people say the meanest comments about Sarah Palin? Do you ever wander over to Internet spots and think how can any normal human being possibly think of such vile, nasty, repulsive comments to post on line?

Hate- such a strong feeling.

I remember being disappointed, even down right embarrassed that President Clinton chose to have such a lack of character while in the White House. I would never describe my thoughts and feelings as to be hateful ones.

As a society, what has happened to us that we take the anger we have for whatever is or is not going on in our lives and turn it around to be hate towards anyone- yes, even Sarah Palin? This kind of hatred is not good for the hearts and souls of Americans.

I think of the terrorists who blow up themselves and anyone else that they happen to hate.

Surely Americans can be better than those we are constantly thinking will be doing something else to hurt us.

I can’t dwell on the hatred for Sarah too long- it makes me feel sick and scared for her and for America.

So, I leave the computer to go to my paid job where I can watch people cope with pain, illness, and approaching death. I will see love and kindness shared by family members. I can take comfort in seeing that there are still caring Americans who know how to put love into action.

Last week I heard a quote…”growing old is not for sissies.” How true.

And running for office in America is not for sissies either.

It takes a lot of heart and soul to spread love instead of hate but I will keep trying. And I am hoping that others will have a change of heart and decide that hate is not the way to live.

We can disagree with a candidate. We do not have to love to hate.

Obama’s Soviet Style Economics

Barack Obama has been talking about the economy and taxes a lot lately. What Barack Obama has been doing, and doing very effectively I might add, is create a class warfare type situation in regards to the US tax system. He has been making the claim that he will charge wealthier Americans more in taxes than those earning less. Basically the tax plan he has been touting is what is called redistribution of wealth. He will take more money from the wealthy and use for more entitlement programs for those that makes less.

Obama and Biden have even made the ridiculous assertion that this is a patriotic thing to do. I am sorry, but taking money from one group of people to give to another is not patriotic. It is however extremely foolish. When Obama and Biden started spewing this garbage it made me question their judgment and worthiness to occupy the White House even more. Their ideas on the US economy sound more like they come out of some young communists meeting on a college campus than a serious contender for President of the United States.

One of foolish assumptions that these two politicians make is that President Bush’s tax cuts helped no one but the wealthy and corporations. I am here to tell you that they helped me more because I got a larger percentage break than those that earn more than I. Sure the wealthy got back more money, but that is because they paid more in taxes to begin with. I however got the larger percentage of my taxes back.

If Barack Obama really wanted to be fair when it comes to taxes he should implement a tax code that is much simpler and equal across the board. For a truly fair tax system we need to either implement a flat tax with one tax rate across the board. Or we need to replace the current income tax system with a consumption tax where you only pay taxes on what you spend. Of course Obama will never go for that. After all he doesn’t really care about fair taxation, what he wants to do is redistribute wealth. I don’t know if he doesn’t realize that this would doom our economy or what. All I know is that we have to stop this from happening. For the love country do not vote for Barack Obama.

Words of wisdom from Mike Huckabee

From his book From Hope to Higher Ground:

Chapter “STOP Being a Selfish Citizen”:

“Worthwhile battles in the political arena are not for the easily discouraged or the faint of heart. Politics can be a full-contact sport…. If you can’t stand the sight of your own blood, your role may be limited to helping others and not actually putting your name on the ballot and your neck on the line.”

I thought of these quotes from Huckabee last night while I was watching Larry King Live. A group of women were shouting at each other all to get their points across about Sarah Palin. Many of the expert women were sure that Palin’s star is already falling, that real women are seeing her for the woman she really is. It went on and on and on. Watching was an endurance contest.

While Mike Huckabee’s comments were intended for those thinking of entering a political race, I think his words also speak to me as a grass roots person. As the heated debates and ugliness of this political season enter the home stretch, I find being an informed, interested, and committed voter is not for the ‘faint of heart’.

It would be much more pleasant to shut off the TV, only read the comic page in the paper (tho there are a lot of mean comics these days!)… just do anything to tune out the media, pundits, and spokespeople for the candidates. Ignore the polls and nasty comments left on blog sites.

But Mike has more words for me, and perhaps you will learn from them, as well:

“If you decide not to be a candidate, then you should decide to fervently and faithfully support those who share your core convictions and who are likely to act on your behalf if elected. Support means more than voting for, although it won’t help much if you don’t vote. Don’t expect to find perfect candidates because there aren’t any! Judge more by a candidates spirit than his or her speeches.”

My interest in Mike has gotten me to this place in my political life so I am in for the duration and plan to stick around to help make sure that those elected are staying true to the promises made to the voters. I will keep “fervently and faithfully” supporting the candidates who believe in the family values that are important to me.

I will keep posting on the Iowa Defense Alliance site and doing all I can help candidates like Christopher Reed get elected.

And finally, more from Huckabee:

“I am not where I am today because I was the greatest candidate or because I had all the answers to all the questions. I am where I am today only because extraordinary people believed in an ordinary candidate who was willing to articulate shared beliefs. Whatever victory was attributed to me was truly the result of people on whose shoulders I was carried.”

Extraordinary people” – able to discern the labels given to candidates- too old, too young, black, white, male, female, tied to Bush, gives a good speech, has the money coming in, star is rising, star is falling, makes a verbal slip up, looks handsome, looks cranky, tying to appeal to moderates, independents, democrats, republicans… as you can see- it takes a lot to be EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE- able to think for ourselves and vote our convictions.

Tom Harkin, Anti Life

Tom Harkin, otherwise known as the Great American Hypocrite. It is once again his time to run for reelection to the United States Senate. With a little bit of luck it may be the last time that he runs for the Senate. I haven’t really seen anyone talk about Harkin lately so I decided to do a little research myself. In this instance I will outline Senator Harkin’s position on abortion. Just like with the post on Obama’s House of Horror’s I will be using Harkin’s own comments and voting record to expose whether he is pro-life or anti-life.

The first subject that I will discuss for your reading pleasure is about a bill that would have prohibited minors from crossing state lines to procure an abortion. I know that you must be thinking the same thing that I was when I read this. How can any person in their right mind oppose this bill? Well I will give one guess as to what Harkin’s position is on issue? If you said no, you would be right. Senator Harkin evidently believes that minors should be able to cross state lines to have an abortion performed. I am sorry Mr. Harkin, but you are dead wrong on this position. By allowing minors to partake in an abortion in this fashion is just begging for the law to backfire on the state.

When a bill similar to the one above reached the floor of the Senate, Senator Harkin voted against it. The bill in question would have required that a child seeking an abortion out of the state to notify their parents of the decision that she has made. The ironic thing about this is that a parent must be notified whenever their child is admitted to a hospital for treatment. Yet many on the left felt that we should disregard this rule when it comes to abortion. Talk about asinine assumptions. Why should we bend the rules in order to allow a child to have such a controversial procedure? Why does Senator Harkin believe that this should be the case? Does Harkin really believe that a minor that somehow got into a situation that they would consider having an abortion is going to make wise and informed decisions? This is just another example of Harkins anti-life agenda. Is this really what Iowa wants?

In another display of total disregard for innocent human life, Senator Harkin voted to maintain funding for Planned Parenthood. As most of you would know, Planned Parenthood is allowed to perform abortions when a woman wants to murder their baby. What this bill would have done is prohibited the government from funding an organization or group that provides abortions. Of course Senator Harkin and his cohorts in the Senate did vote against this measure. Now I don’t know what is going on inside Senator Harkin’s head. And I oftentimes wonder if there is anything there at all. Mr. Harkin should realize the position that he should have taken is one that many Americans already have. That is that Planned Parenthood should not be funded using US funds.

Now here is a troubling aspect of Senator Harkins positions. You see Mr. Harkin claims to be a Catholic, but his religion just does not mix with his positions on the issue. You see, Senator Harkin voted to expand research to more embryonic stem cell. In essence Senator Harkin is all in favor of creating a new child through cloning, and then when it is time to study them, they would destroy this precious life. The use of embryonic stem cells is upsetting to quite a few people, especially when adult stem cells have shown some great potential.

Now let us discuss Senator Harkins position on the horrendously cruel procedure known as partial birth abortion. We have already discussed what this procedure is and how it is performed. During Tom’s time in the Senate a ban of partial birth abortion was brought up for a vote twice. In both instances Harkin voted against banning this atrocity masquerading as a legitimate choice. I honestly cannot see how a person can support this monstrosity. The only reason that I can come up with is that they are receiving a lot of money from Planned Parenthood. Once again Harkin’s position on abortion does not represent his constituent’s views on abortion in general and specifically partial birth abortion.

Senator Harkin has even gone as far as to co-sponsor legislation that would protect a woman’s right to choose abortion. In essence Senator Harkin has condoned the ability of a mother to kill her baby. This would make that mother a murderer, and that would make Senator Harkin an accessory to murder.

It is time that we replace Senator Harkin. He no longer represents Iowans. Instead he represents the Washington elite and their socialist agenda. Harkin is however being challenged by a candidate that knows the difference between right and wrong. Come my fellow Iowans, help me bring some fresh blood to Congress in the form of Christopher Reed. Reed is infinitely better than Harkin. Reed isn’t infected with the Washington elite syndrome that corrupts a large portion of our elected officials. Vote for someone that is fresh faced and new to the US Senate and reject the tired old socialist. Maybe then we will be able to get something done in DC. Vote for Christopher Reed.

Voters in District 45: Meet Ryan Rhodes!

Meet Ryan Rhodes- ISU college student, all around nice guy, and candidate running against Democrat Beth Wessel-Kroeschell for District 45 State Representative.

If you want to meet up with Ryan you might have to walk at a fast pace. I should know. I went door to door to assist Ryan in finding voters in District 45 that would listen to his message. For those who answered the knock at the door, they were in for a big treat. Once Ryan slows down long enough his awesome personality, great communication skills and knowledge of issues that matter to Republicans comes through loud and clear. I am also pleased to note that along the way Ryan even found some Democrats that were happy with his message and promised to give him their votes!

Ryan has been busy working to put himself through college, taking classes at ISU and taking every opportunity to make himself known to District 45 voters. I have come to admire his work ethic and positive attitude. In a word Ryan is amazing!

Ryan supports lower property taxes and more legislative accountability which is great news for tax payers and those of us who want a representative who will go to Des Moines to work for us!

I will be giving other updates about Ryan but with this post, urge you to check out his website:

www.rhodes2change.iowafcr.org

Keep on the look out for a fast-moving young man, probably with well worn shoes, as he goes door to door asking for votes on Nov. 4. It could be Ryan Rhodes with a smile on his face, a message to share, and working hard to get out the vote!

He for sure has mine!

Iowa voters’ enthusiasm for Sarah Palin

Oh the delight to find something positive about Sarah Palin on the front page of The D.M. Register! It was worth my 75 cents to read an article by John Carlson. Mr. Carlson had been to the McCain/Palin campaign stop in Cedar Rapids on Thursday. In quotes are his words.

“Voters’ enthusiasm for Palin confounds opposition, media”…

I had thought that I was keeping pretty good tabs on N.Y. Times columnist Maureen Dowd but I had missed out on her comment that Palin is “Napoleon in bunny boots.” Also, because Chris Matthews gives me such indigestion, I did not know that he had described Palin as an “empty vessel.”

On the other hand, I did hear and see the lady introducing Biden – the undear soul that said Palin is a “bucket of fluff.” So already, first thing in the article, I had new learning in 2 of 3 quotes. Yes!!!

But, just in case you did not have the opportunity to see the Friday edition of The D.M. Register, let me be the one to tell you that it was the paragraphs on Page 4A that made my day!

…the “see Sarah crowd. These people…uneducated dopes who can’t grasp the fact the governor of Alaska is not qualified – is not fit- to be vice president.

These poor, misguided, uninformed, and scariest of all, likely voters, are reminded eight times a day on the news and in the papers that Palin is no Biden. What don’t they get?….”

The article gave me a clear picture of who was there to see this event- parents with their children, women, even middle aged people like me. The photo with the crowd with large American flags on display said a lot about the event! Awesome.

The article closed with these words: “Democrats and the swells in the press keep throwing punches. The average folks, so many of them women, keep cheering. They relate to this mother of five, who diapers a kid with one hand and runs a state with the other.

The critics don’t understand the excitement, and it’s driving them crazy. It’s why Palin scares the fluff out of every last one of them.”

Voters- did you know we were poor, misguided, uniformed, uneducated dopes?

I bet you did know this- we can hardly turn on cable TV without getting the big picture that the media and the experts who come on after the candidates speak to tell us what we heard, even try to tell us what to think, believe what Mr. Carlson has written. Perhaps you are like me and find all of this somewhere between amusing and just plain despicable.

While I did not get to go to Cedar Rapids I enjoyed reading this article so much that I have attempted to share it with you.

One woman quoted in the article says it best about Sarah: “She has character.”

Which is more than I can say for the media, pundits, and other candidates…. well, except John Carlson. He had character to write it the way he saw it and got his opinion on the front page of The D.M. Register. Way to go Mr. Carlson!!!!!

I’m one of those average folks who will “keep cheering”!

Promises, Promises: More reasons to elect Christopher Reed

As I watch the days dwindle until Election Day and hear more and more promises by both presidential candidates- well, it gives me great cause for concern.

For one thing- how will the tax payers ever foot the bill for all that Obama promises?

And no matter which candidate wins the election how will important issues be at the forefront for progress? To use a much used word, how will voters have “hope” that good legislation will be passed with the do-nothing Congress mentality?

Enter my favorite candidate, Christopher Reed! He is the best choice for who we can send as U.S. Senator to Washington D.C. He has the energy, vision, and common sense to get things done.

What “things”? How would Chris be better than the ho-hum Harkin that Iowans keep re-electing? Let me list some of the ways!!!!

* Pro-life- NO ‘Abortion on Demand’

* Defender of Marriage and promoter of Family Values

* Ready to protect the 2nd Amendment

* Has the determination to work to stop illegal immigration by enforcing current laws

* Defender of our Military

* Believes in Drill Here, Drill Now, Drill Often

Iowans, if you take the time to learn for yourself what Chris Reed supports, believes in, and will do as our new, improved U.S. Senator, you will see that Chris is more in line with Iowa values than our current ho-hum Harkin Senator.

Chris is working incredibly hard to get his message out to Iowans.  As a voter I am determined to help him by telling anyone who will listen that Chris is what Iowa needs in D.C.

VOTE FOR CHRIS REED!

Check Chris out for yourself:   www.ChristopherReed2008.com

Oh- and tell your friends and neighbors to check out Chris Reed. Tell them to do their part to send a huge message to ho-hum Harkin: In 2008 Iowans will not be voting to send you back to D.C.!
