“D” Grade for Tom Harkin on Immigration

Iowans, want an issue that shows the huge difference between Christopher Reed and Tom Harkin? IMMIGRATION.
Americans for Better Immigration is a non-profit, non-partisan organization which lobbies Congress for reduction in immigration numbers. By grading federal politicians on their actions, ABI provides one of the essential tools for helping citizens demand the policy they want.
Here are the ‘Grades’ for Tom Harkin, which were updated Sept. 9, 2008.

Other rewards* F
Border Control C+
Interior Enforcement D
*Other rewards: “Members of Congress are graded down for every action that either makes it easier to enter the United States illegally, or to avoid detection or deportation, or that rewards illegal behavior.”
In a combined number House and Senate have 490 members who have grades above Harkin in “other rewards”.
Tom Harkin’s overall grade is a D for his career and recent actions on IMMIGRATION.
By the way, Charles Grassley has an A.
In checking out Christopher Reed’s website I found his comments on Immigration. “Crossing the border illegally is breaking the law and violators should be punished and sent back to their country of origin. They should not be rewarded with perks like free medical care, ID cards, driver’s licenses, the right to vote, instate tuition.”
Chris also says “My immigration plan reinforces the laws that have been passed by Congress and signed by the President of the United States.”

Then decide based on YOUR views of immigration- do you want Tom Harkin returned to Washington D.C. OR would Christopher Reed, working with Charles Grassley, be the better choice?
It is past time to whine and complain about illegal immigration. Iowans, we have a candidate in Christopher Reed who will listen to our concerns and opinions. By the “D” grade of Tom Harkin, we can see that Tom has voted his view and not what the majority of Iowans want done about immigration.
Let us join with ABI and “demand” immigration policies that we want!

I didn’t look at the NumbersUSA site to see what Grassley’s grade is but I know from my conversation with him he doesn’t deserve an A. He fully supports in-state tuition for illegals. He told me he wants it because it isn’t their fault they are here so we should help educate them.
Mr. Grassely apparently thinks the children of criminals deserve special treatment. The drug trafficker’s children didn’t have any of the blame in the drug trafficker’s conviction either but we don’t give them free stuff because their dad’s a criminal.
Terri, I did not know this about Grassley and you have made a solid arguement. I have found that it is a touchy situation when dealing with the children of criminals of all sorts. I know that the argument behind educating these children is that it will improve the state, and I understand that. But still……..the law is the law is the law. When push comes to shove I would not support the decision to help educate a criminal’s children, but I would not throw a candidate under the bus for it either. It is especially a hard decision with illegal immigration, because usually they are here trying to give their children a better future. But once again, bottom line, they broke the law.
