The back stabbing Iowa GOP vs Christopher Reed

Way to go, Iowa GOP. You mean and rotten group of leaders in the grand OLD party! You have been stabbing a YOUNG and awesome candidate in the back.

In Christopher Reed we have a great man that stands up for what 35,000 Iowans wanted in a candidate.  Many of us have expressed in thought, words, money, and deeds our support of a candidate who mirrors our values and beliefs.

I am so disgusted with your mean spirited back stabbing, lack of support for Reed that I can barely type.

As if I need something else to be elevating my blood pressure. But, you have even more of my attention that you already had when I posted “Where are you Iowa GOP?”. Boy do you have it!

Just now on WHO with Steve Deace, Reed had a firm, strong, articulate voice. He is out hitting the road, going it on his own and you STAB HIM IN THE BACK! Reed sees the road America is on to Socialism. He gets it!

My already high opinion of Christopher Reed has just been elevated even more because he brought out into the open what the Iowa Brigade has already been posting about. The GOP leadership is not working FOR him!

Now Iowa voters- where is your outrage, where is your financial support? Not only is Christopher at war with Tom Harkin, now he must battle with the GOP!

On WHO/Deace Christopher Reed said he was being treated like he was running for dog catcher, that the GOP is out putting holes in his bucket. Disgusting.

Not only am I supporting Reed but I am here to put the “Romney Party of Iowa (Deace, a great name for the GOP!) on notice that Iowa Defense has your number. We have Christopher’s back (what is left of it), we are mad as heck, and we ask again… WHERE ARE YOU, IOWA GOP? Is there even a few of you who have a conscious and the guts to work FOR Reed, not AGAINST HIM.

The price is too high for continued media bias

More media bias, more cover up, more weeks of a very long, long campaign season. I bounce between not caring at all about who gets elected President and caring very much. Maybe America will have to hit rock bottom with a President Obama before we come to our senses, maybe McCain really isn’t the maverick after all, maybe, maybe, maybe….

Maybe in these next few weeks Americans will at least rise up in mass to take on the media bias that gets worse with each passing moment. The silence in the media about Obama, his associations, his radical views have grave consequences. We are being poisoned and/or lulled into not caring because we are so sick of this horrible trend in America. The price is just too high for continued media bias.

The media can go after Sarah Palin with wicked intensity. Attack her character, turn their heads the other way when her e-mail is hacked, make fun of her accent, take a photo of her legs, a half shot of her face that is not flattering. I could go on and on.

This is Iowa- what do these things matter to us? I say A LOT! We must stand up and be counted before the Liberal Media is such an influence that even Iowans fall prey to their vicious ways. Some of may not like John McCain, agree with his views, be disappointed that “our” candidate of choice did not make it to this point in the 2008 election process. I understand. I also understand that so much is at stake with a President Obama + an unchecked Liberal Media + our enemies just waiting for an Obama presidency.

I happened upon the following post. I liked it and want to share it here on Iowa Defense. The poster asks “Who is with me?”- and I say I AM, callmecrusader. Who else will care about where the Liberal Media is taking us with their media bias scandal? And if you care, what will YOU do?

“I’ve been an FR reader since 2002.This is my first vanity post.

For months, conservatives have been complaining about the unprecedented favoritism that the media has been showing Obama, which goes well beyond the normal amount of favoritism that the media shows towards Democrats during an election year. But we need to take a step back and realize that the media’s reluctance to pin the blame for this financial crisis squarely on the shoulders of the culprits who are responsible for it is not just part and parcel of their desire to help Obama get elected. It is a scandal unto itself that makes Rathergate look like small potatoes. And it’s time for popular and respected conservative pundits to go way beyond making snarky comments about media bias and frame it as such.

People can argue about whether or not we’re on the verge of another Great Depression. But the consensus amongst economists across the political spectrum is that this is the most serious financial crisis that the country has faced in a long, long time. The fact that people are being forced to tune into YouTube, FoxNews, conservative talk radio and the blogosphere in order to hear the truth is criminal.

This is an issue that is much more serious than John Edward’s affair or John Kerry’s Purple Heart medals. This is an issue that affects the whole country. We’re talking about people’s assets, their homes, their life savings. If Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Chuck Schumer, Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson were Republicans, they’d already be as infamous as Joe McCarthy, G. Gordon Liddy, and Kenneth Lay. The American people deserve to know the names of the people and the details that are responsible for this crisis.

I know that conservatives are disheartened by current election polls. But we’ve got a full month until the election. Instead of flailing away at all the different stories that the media is ignoring in regards to Obama, we need to put some serious focus on this particular issue.

Conservative pundits and bloggers need to hammer away at the fact that this is potentially the greatest media bias scandal ever. If we do this, we could not only succeed in defeating Obama, but we could bring down the Old Media once and for all. That would be quite a two-fer. The media’s credibility is already at an all time low. Let’s finish them off for good.

Who’s with me?”

Tom Latham and immigration reform

Once upon a time…. remember… the primaries… Illegal Immigration and border security were front and center issues. With the financial crisis and the heat of the Presidential campaign it seems that illegal immigration is not generating a high degree of interest. Very sad. With some time and attention, voters would find that illegal immigration is a huge problem for Iowa. Posts on Iowa Defense have high lighted  negative impacts that come from illegal immigration issues. With this in mind I have done some research on what Tom Latham has done about illegal immigration.

Americans for Better Immigration have given Tom Latham a “B” letter grade for Career and Recent voting record and while the report below shows Latham to be weak on the issue of amnesty, his record shows that he is strong in other areas of illegal immigration and reform. I urge you to read the report and have an understanding of how Latham regards illegal immigration. As Iowa continues to have increasing problems with this issue, I believe that Latham will improve his already good “grade” and listen to the opinions of Iowans. Latham’s voting record and interest in illegal immigration is yet another reason why he will receive my vote.

http://immigrationstance.diggersrealm.com/ia/representative_tom_lathams_record_on_immigration_reform_and_illegal_aliens.html

“Representative Tom Latham’s record on Immigration Reform an illegal Aliens.

Representative Tom Latham is a Republican currently serving District 4 in Iowa, which includes Mason City, Fort Dodge and Ames and has served in the House from 1995-Present.

Representative Tom Latham has had an outstanding record when it comes to border security. There are currently at least 12 million (with estimates reaching as high as 30 million) illegal aliens in this country. The first line of defense is controlling our porous borders. Representative Tom Latham clearly wants to secure our borders and the votes show that.

After an illegal alien has entered our country the next line of defense is interior enforcement. Currently employers are not required to verify that an applicant or employee is legally allowed to work in this country. In addition, local law enforcement at the state and local level have had their hands tied when dealing with illegal aliens by not even allowing them to inquire about arrestees’ citizenship status. Representative Tom Latham has worked hard to allow state and local law enforcement to help in reducing illegal immigration and to put in place workplace verification systems allowing employers to quickly verify the legal working status of their employees.

If an illegal alien avoids being picked up, or remains here after receiving deportation orders, the next thing they look for are incentives, rewards and benefits. Amnesty is the largest of these rewards and gives illegal aliens a path to citizenship or makes them instantly legal. Representative Tom Latham has voted in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens.

Representative Tom Latham has voted against giving illegal aliens further rewards and other incentives to come such as in-state tuition, educational benefits, welfare and health care services.

Once here, many illegal aliens have what is known as an “anchor baby“. This is caused by a misinterpretation of our 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which calls for all born on American soil to be given US Citizenship. Unfortunately this Amendment has been misinterpreted and was initially put in place to ensure that freed slaves were citizens and has been twisted and misused to include even the children of foreigners who cross illegally into this country and have a child. Once born this new “citizen” allows the parent to gain benefits at the expense of the taxpayers. Representative Tom Latham has not yet had a chance to vote on anchor babies and the increased illegal population that they support through taxpayer dollars.

On the issue of legal immigration Representative Tom Latham has stood opposed to the visa lottery. Each year 50,000 names are chosen to come to the US legally without regards to their needs, intentions, education level or whether they would benefit the United States. “Winning the lottery” takes on a whole new meaning when it comes to immigration. Once in the country these new immigrants can apply for taxpayer funded services.

Once an immigrant is legally here they can send home to bring in more adults from their family such as parents, siblings and adult children. That legal immigrant can then bring in more family members directly related to them. This is called chain migration and Representative Tom Latham is opposed to it. Chain migration has exponential growth and is the primary cause of the 4-fold increase in immigration to this country since 1960.

A high majority of refugee and asylum seekers to this country are not by international definition in need of relocation. This program is ripe with fraud and Representative Tom Latham has worked hard to crack down on it.

Representative Tom Latham has voted neutral regarding increases in permanent and temporary foreign work visas such as the H1-B. Sometimes foreign workers are desirable in fields where there is a lack of American workers to fill the positions. All too often these work visa programs are abused by employers and used to get lower cost workers into this country rather than hiring American workers. For the foreign worker it is common to see them not return to their home country and remain here on an expired visa.

Overall, Representative Tom Latham has a fairly good record when it comes to immigration reform.

Representative Tom Latham shows overall promise as an immigration reformer and receives our seal of approval.”

AUSTIN LORENZEN for Iowa House District 18

We have a bigger problem here in Iowa than I ever dreamed we had before I read  through a bunch of bills sponsored, voted for, and in many cases actually passed by various legislators in the last couple of years. I was particularly interested in the sponsorship and voting record  of Andrew Wenthe, a Democrat and former John Edwards supporter who currently represents District 18 (i.e. Bremer, Black Hawk, and Fayette Counties.)
I was checking into Wenthe because he is up for reelection and is being challenged by Austin Lorenzen, a young (“thirtysomething”) man who was born in LeMars, raised in Hawarden and Oelwein, and now resides in Denver with his wife and two-year-old daughter. It seems Lorenzen does not have any experience as a public official but NO record in this area can certainly be considered a plus when compared to the legislative record of Wenthe.  And for starters, the nine years of experience in sales operations Lorenzen has had in his professional life at Short’s Travel Management no doubt have taught him some finance skills and economic savvy. These I think ought to be a prerequisite to being a legislator, but unfortunately this does not seem to be the case in Iowa any more than it is in any other state or in Washington, D.C.
Like many of his colleagues in Iowa and around our country, Wenthe seems to have had at least two major goals in his role in the Iowa House, that is: to control citizens in ways we do not need to be controlled and to spend money. And since jumping with both feet into the middle of our lives usually requires spending money, the two goals are quite naturally intertwined. Among many bills he has been involved with in his Standing Committee Assignments  (Agriculture, Appropriations, Economic Growth, Natural Resources) and as a member of the Education Appropriations Subcommittee, Wenthe has sponsored the following unnecessary, invasive, or downright nonsensical pieces of legislation:
unnecessary:
A bill for an act making an appropriation to the department of education for purposes of the academic incentives for minorities program.
A bill for an act establishing a minority teacher loan forgiveness program to be administered by the college student aid commission, and making an appropriation.
A bill for an act making an appropriation for distribution to community colleges for the development of adult English language learner instruction programs to be offered in employee workplaces.
invasive:
A bill for an act providing for a school attendance task force pilot program, and providing an appropriation
A bill for an act requiring children enrolling in elementary or high school to have a dental screening and providing an effective date.
A bill for an act relating to human papillomavirus infection by providing appropriations for a public awareness program and for vaccinations of low-income persons who are uninsured
nonsensical:
A bill for an act relating to the sale of wild turkey bones and providing penalties.
A bill for an act appropriating moneys to the department of natural resources for purposes of conducting an autumn olive cooperative management project.
A resolution honoring the National Bar Association for over eight decades of service to the cause of civil rights and equal justice for all.
A bill for an act relating to the incorporation of character education into the curricula of students in grades one through nine, and providing effective and applicability dates.
A bill for an act establishing a sensitivity training program for heads of state agencies.
A bill for an act relating to the recruitment and retention of psychiatrists in the state, and providing an appropriation.

(APPROPRIATION of course, means the bill if passed would mean YOUR money is being thrown at what YOUR legislators perceive to be a problem. And I have to laugh at the last entry because the way things are going on the political scene these days, we are surely all going to need those shrinks and PRONTO!)
The examples above are just a handful of what I gleaned from Wenthe’s page on the Iowa General Assembly website. And sadly there are bigger issues at stake here: these were just the teasers! For a real shiver-me-timbers feeling, it is in the area of life and family where Wenthe holds the most harmful legislative positions—in fact to such a degree  that Iowa Family Policy Center has designated him  “Unreliable for the Family.”
1) Wenthe opposed Rule 42,  which did NOT pass,  and so the Iowa Marriage Amendment was forced out of committee and the issue of traditional marriage will not be available again for a vote by Iowans until 2012.
2) Wenthe voted for SF 2216, which passed and gives the state the authority to dictate that certain subjects be part of private school curricula.
3) Wenthe voted for SF427, which passed and basically guarantees that homosexuals, transgenders, and crossdressers have Civil Rights, even though the Iowa Civil Rights Code already  protects them.
4) Wenthe voted for HF611, which passed and removed abstinence programs from the public schools.
5) Wenthe voted for HF2645, which passed and gave control of public schools to the teachers’ unions.
6) Wenthe voted for SG162, which passed and repealed the human cloning ban.
So in my estimation,  when Representative Wenthe isn’t wasting his time and our time AND money, he is doing irreparable harm to the traditional family and to the cause of life. I cannot help but think that Austin Lorenzen would be better in place of Wenthe for District 18.
I would certainly much rather see Lorenzen than Wenthe on the Education Appropriations Subcommittee.  Lorenzen is pro-life, pro-family, has been a youth leader in his church, and supports a wide variety of educational options for Iowans. He believes parents should be allowed to decide how their children are educated and opposes additional regulations for homeschooling. He thinks it is important that the nationwide movement to restrict homeschooling does not make headway in Iowa.
In addition, Lorenzen was adamantly opposed to Bill HF2645 which gave teachers’ unions control over the public schools. He strongly criticized Wenthe for allegedly pushing the bill through so fast that nobody was adequately informed as to what they were voting for. Lorenzen speaks out for his convictions and is willing to take a stand. Vote Lorenzen if you live in District 18!
