Judas Named: Caleb Hunter

What is up with the Republican Party of Iowa? This is a serious question to be asked. Tom Harkin is perhaps the most hated politician in the State of Iowa. The GOP has a quality candidate running against him. This is a candidate that is working his heart out to reach the voters of Iowa. And yet the Iowa GOP has been strangely silent in this race. For some time I have suspected that the party is working against him. First it was one of the Republican County Chairs, Gwen Eilers, publically proposing to write in one of the primary losers instead of the party’s nominee. But now we have confirmation that the second in command is actively encouraging party members to not support Christopher Reed. That is right the Iowa GOP’s second in command Caleb Hunter. He has actively told Republicans to not support Reed’s campaign. These are the same people that claimed that Kim Lehman couldn’t be a national chairwoman because she wouldn’t support all Republicans. Now the shoe is on the other foot. These same people are now doing what they claimed that Lehman would do. This type of action is shameful. In fact the only groups that I have seen attempting to support Reed at all are the Iowa Right to Life and Iowa Christian Alliance.

These actions are now reopening wounds that many people have attempted to heal. And most importantly it points to a lack of leadership in the upper echelon of the state party. I am putting out a call to all Iowa Republicans, get behind OUR Senatorial candidate. Get behind Christopher Reed. It is time to send a message to party leadership. It is time to the leadership that if you do not support all Republican candidates we will declare war and replace you with people that will do the job. We will not be denied. We will have our voices heard. And we will replace Tom Harkin with a true conservative Iowan.

You can hear Reed in an interview with Steve Deace.

Won’t it be great to have a Senator that will not be beholden to party leadership but rather loyal to the voters who got him elected to office?!!!!! I rather like the thought! People who use knives need to be careful. I won’t need a knife but my claws are sharpened and ready to go!

Leadership in the Grand ole Romney party is not really leadership. They are bullies of the worst kind and not worth our support or loyality.

Great post. Thanks for bringing to our attention the lack of leadership in the Republican Party. Maybe the big time party people really like Harkin more than we thought. Now, that is really sad!

One year ago I entered into the political arena a Republican cheerleader. We all know how our candidate of choice was treated, we all know how Romney was pushed down our throat, we all know how we have been threatened to just “get along” and get McCain elected, we all know how the Republican party has accused us of being what is “wrong” with the party, and now we all know that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg on what is really “wrong” with GOP from the top down to the bottom. One would think that after a year of grassroots effort I would be even more in love with the Republican party. Nothing could be farther from the truth…………….I am sometimes disgusted with it. What is happening to Christopher Reed is the final indicator that our party is mortally wounded. I don’t know where it will go from here. Are you guys ready for this? Can we take this party back? I think this is a prime example of having to hit rock bottom before we can rebuild.

Is it any wonder that the Republican Party of Iowa is losing out to the Democrats. With this kind of leadership the RPI looks like amateurs.

    Now who’s destroying the party??????????????

Take a look at Reed’s disclosure reports. He’s raised what, $15,000? That’s parhetic. State House and Senate campaigns have raised more than this. The Iowa GOP has to put their money where they can win. Unfortunately, this round we don’t have a quality candidate. If he can’t even pull his own weight, why should the Iowa GOP spend all of their kitty to support him and be forced to neglect House and Senate races where the money can go further and are winnable? I dislike Harkin as much as the next gal, but the fact is he has raised over $6 mil without even trying. With a quality candidate I believe we can take him out, but this isn’t the year we can beat Harkin. This isn’t entirely Reed’s fault, it’s a bad year for Republican candidates everywhere. Please stop tearing our party apart for making a strategic decision not to waste our contributions on a candidate that has virtually no chance to win.

REPEAT, REPEAT. MONEY IS NOT THE ISSUE. The issue is Reed’s own party telling people not to support him. The RPI can put their money where they please, but they have no right to discourage individuals from supporting a candidate. Why is this so hard to understand? I cannot make it any clearer than that. Let the people decide.

  7. callmecrusader says:

There are more ways to support a candidate than with money.

And you give us a lot of credit to say we are tearing our party apart. If the Iowa GOP continues down this road of not supporting candidates and ignoring the very people who make up “the party” they are the ones who are doing in Republicans.

Pathetic… now, that would be the lack of leadership from the GOP.

And, for the record, there are actual voters who believe that Reed is a ‘quality candidate’!!
