Reed and Hartsuch: In 2 Days, 2 Leaders Emerge

I hear many people out there complaining how the Republican party is in need of leaders this election cycle, but I believe in a short span of two days this past weekend two leaders have stepped forward.  Christoper Reed, candidate for US Senate, and Iowa Senator David Hartsuch, candidate for US House District 1, have done what the Maverick at the top of the ticket has failed to do in the past couple of weeks.  Mr. Reed and Mr. Hartsuch have stood up to their own party when they knew what their party has done is wrong.

Christopher Reed was going along just to get along knowing full well that the support of the Iowa GOP was not behind him.  He took the high road knowing that complaining about the lack of support from his own party would make their fight against the Democrats and Tom Harkin even more challenging.  But that all changed when Reed found out that the lack of support turned into actively telling people not to support him.  In an eye-opening interview with WHO radio’s Steve Deace he said, “I am carrying the water for the Republican party and they are putting holes in my bucket.”  Yes, they are Christopher, and thank you for being a leader by calling them on such indecent and divisive behavior and for pointing out that we don’t win elections by fighting each other.  Reed is focused on his fight with Tom Harkin and not with Republicans.  We have been lectured many times about supporting the Republican nominee no matter what, and now the Republican Party of Iowa must heed their own advice.

A day later another leader emerged to fight for one of the basic foundations of the Republican party…………marriage is between one man and one woman.  David Hartsuch has been one of the primary players in the Iowa legislature trying to get the marriage amendment on the ballot for the people (you and I) to vote on.  Unlike other gutless politicians, he did not just put his convictions in his back pocket when the McCain campaign decided not to let him speak at an Iowa rally because of his outspoken statements for traditional marriage.  He instead stood up to his own party in a phenomenal press release and pointed out that their own presidential nominee did not support one of the most important moves in the Republican agenda: the federal marriage amendment.  Hartsuch realizes that even though he supports John McCain, he will still need to do all he can to defend family values in Iowa.  Once again, we have been lectured about supporting John McCain even if he doesn’t embody all of the Republican ideals, but someone should lecture McCain on supporting those candidates who do uphold Republican values.

Two candidates who each had roadblocks thrown their way by their own party.  I’m not sure the agenda behind these roadblocks, but if it is to divide the party into “us vs. them” like elementary children picking kickball teams on the playground, it has to stop.  And if the Republican party is going to try to defeat their own members, then why is it the ones who actually stand behind the Republican party platform who get the “holes in their bucket”?  I don’t know the answer to this question, except for maybe they would rather lose an election than lose control of their party, but what I do know is Christopher Reed and David Hartsuch stood up to their own party’s ridiculous behavior and illustrated to us what it really means to put “Country First”.

Will What Happens in San Francisco Stay in San Francisco?

The gay agenda may seem like it happens far away from Iowa  but I have increasing concerns about what is coming our way with this issue. The snubbing of Republican Candidate David Hartsuch is one instance where gay rights and those who support gay rights have come in to play in Iowa. I have concerns about what our children are being taught in school. Not all parents even pay attention or care. Parents that do care are often ignored. The school knows best attitude does exist.

I submit this article to give you one something to think about because Iowa is at risk for those to push the same thought process of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom: “The door’s wide open now. It’s gonna happen, whether you like it or not.”

“And they deny till they’re blue in the face that there is no homosexual indoctrination taking place in public schools.

Welcome to reason number 9,999,987 to homeschool. I guarantee you this is the tip of the iceberg for the anti-Proposition 8 propaganda campaign in California. Via ProtectMarriage.com:

In the same week that the No on 8 campaign launched an ad that labeled as “lies” claims that same-sex marriage would be taught in schools to young children, a first grade class took a school-sponsored trip to a gay wedding. Eighteen first graders traveled to San Francisco City Hall Friday for the wedding of their teacher and her lesbian partner, The San Francisco Chronicle reported. The school sponsored the trip for the students, ages 5 and 6, taking them away from their studies for the same-sex wedding. According to the Yes on 8 campaign, the public school field trip demonstrates that the California Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage has real consequences.

“Taking children out of school for a same-sex wedding is not customary education. This is promoting same-sex marriage and indoctrinating young kids,” said Yes on 8-ProtectMarriage.com Campaign Co-Manager Frank Schubert. “I doubt the school has ever taken kids on a field trip to a traditional wedding,” Schubert said.

When asked by the Yes on 8 campaign, The San Francisco Chronicle reporter said she did not know if the school had ever sponsored a field trip for students to a traditional wedding. Telling the Chronicle that the field trip was “a teachable moment,” the school’s principal believes it is perfectly appropriate for first graders to attend a same-sex wedding. Officials in other school districts disagree.

“Prop. 8 protects our children from being taught in public schools that ‘same-sex marriage’ is the same as traditional marriage,” said Santa Ana Unified School District board member Rosemarie “Rosie” Avila. “We should not accept a court decision that results in public schools teaching our kids that gay marriage is okay. That is an issue for parents to discuss with their children according to their own values and beliefs. It shouldn’t be forced on us against our will,” Avila added.

The lesbian teacher’s wedding was officiated by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. Newsom is featured in a Yes on 8 television ad, released last week, in which he arrogantly declares of same-sex marriage: “The door’s wide open now. It’s gonna happen, whether you like it or not.”

The Yes on 8 campaign’s ads explain that if the voters do not overturn the California Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling, teachers will be required to teach young children that there is no difference between gay marriage and traditional marriage. “It’s totally unreasonable that a first grade field trip would be to a same-sex wedding,” said Chip White, Press Secretary for Yes on 8. “This is overt indoctrination of children who are too young to understand it.” The field trip underscores the Yes on 8 campaign’s message that unless Prop. 8 passes, children will be taught about same-sex marriage in public schools. “Not only can it happen, it has already happened,” White said.

Here’s the SF Chronicle piece that ran on Saturday. Excerpt:

On Friday, McCoy and Carder, both in white, held hands on Newsom’s office balcony overlooking the rotunda and recited their vows.

“With this ring, I thee wed!” Carder said, shouting the last word for emphasis.

After traditional photos, the two walked out City Hall’s main doors where the students were lined up down the steps with bags of pink rose petals and bottles of bubbles hanging from their necks. McCoy, a conferences services coordinator, was in on the surprise and beamed as the children swarmed around Carder.

The two said they have participated in the campaign against Proposition 8 and planned to travel around San Francisco on Friday afternoon in a motorized trolley car with “Just Married” and “Vote No on 8″ banners…

…Creative Arts administrators and parents acknowledged that the field trip might be controversial, but they didn’t see the big deal. Same-sex marriage is legal, they noted.

“How many days in school are they going to remember?” asked parent Marc Lipsett. “This is a day they’ll definitely remember.”

Iowans- this is one more reason to vote for candidates who support traditional family values.

Socialism/Obama: “is anyone listening?”

One sentence in a recent Battleground Iowa post caught my immediate attention:

The American march to socialism is probably the scariest thing I’ve seen in my lifetime” http://battlegroundiowa.squarespace.com/

Until recently I never gave any thought to ‘socialism’ but life with Obama has given the opportunity to hear the term on a regular basis. The following is some information you may find to be helpful as you consider your next vote for President of the United States. I have to agree with Battleground Iowa- the march to socialism is scary. And learning about Obama’s views is imperative.

Socialism: social and economic doctrine that calls for public rather than private ownership or control of property and natural resources. According to the socialist view, individuals do not live or work in isolation but live in cooperation with one another. Furthermore, everything that people produce is in some sense a social product, and everyone who contributes to the production of a good is entitled to a share in it. Society as a whole, therefore, should own or at least control property for the benefit of all its members.

And now the first part of an article: Obama’s socialist agenda-Is anyone listening?

“Outside of stump speeches, carefully scripted responses to reporters, and the endless recitation of talking points, there are a few moments when a politician speaks from the heart. It is in these moments when true motivations and core beliefs are often revealed.

Such a moment occurred this past weekend, when Barack Obama unveiled his socialist leanings and gave a clue to the American people about what Obama is all about. But, are the American people listening? Have they become so duped by the rhetoric of “hope” and “change” that they don’t see the train wreck that’s about to happen? Our freedoms are already being taken away as government continues to grow. If Obama gets elected, the subtleties will be thrown out the window as blatant socialism will rule the day. Just read Obama’s response to a plumber’s question in Ohio…

As reported by Fox News, during a campaign event in Ohio, Obama was peppered with questions from a local plumber who asked, “Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn’t it?” The plumber was complaining (as I often do) that he is “being taxed more and more for fulfilling the American dream.”

Obama’s response? He gave the plumber a classic dose of socialism:

“It’s not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they’ve got a chance for success too,” Obama responded. “My attitude is that if the economy’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s gonna be good for everybody … I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”

Spread the wealth around? This is America, isn’t it? Redistributing the “wealth” is a classic tenant of Marxist philosophy. Communist China, the former Soviet Union, Cuba, and so on…. they all believe in government ownership of basically everything. Hard work, initiative, expertise… none of that is rewarded. Instead, the efforts of the talented and the hard-working are taken from them and given to those who don’t work as hard. The result is a decrease in productivity, not to mention the self-fulfillment that comes from being rewarded for a job well done. And this is exactly what Barack Obama wants to do!”

I join with Bobby Eberle in asking: IS ANYONE LISTENING?

Jeremiah Wright- “tip of the iceberg”

<!–[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <![endif]–><!–[if gte mso 9]> <![endif]–><!–[endif]–> <!–[endif]–>

There was an interesting segment on FOX news this morning. Stanley Kurtz was interviewed about the research he has done on the connections of Barack Obama, Bill Ayers, and Jeremiah Wright. What amazes me is that the media is not doing more to expose Obama and his associations. Well, “amaze” is not the right word, let’s try “angers”. The article is lengthy so I am sharing the first two paragraphs and the last paragraph plus the link so that you may read it in its entirety.

No matter what voters think about John McCain at least we know (pretty much) what makes him tick. McCain is not perfect. Callmecrusader believes McCain to be American at heart. I have no such beliefs about Obama. The information shared in this article gives me even more cause for alarm.

Wright 101

Obama funded extremist Afrocentrists who shared Rev. Wright’s anti-Americanism

By Stanley Kurtz

NRO Contributing Editor

October 14, 2008

It looks like Jeremiah Wright was just the tip of the iceberg. Not only did Barack Obama savor Wright’s sermons, Obama gave legitimacy – and a whole lot of money – to education programs built around the same extremist anti-American ideology preached by Reverend Wright. And guess what? Bill Ayers is still palling around with the same bitterly anti-American Afrocentric ideologues that he and Obama were promoting a decade ago. All this is revealed by a bit of digging, combined with a careful study of documents from the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, the education foundation Obama and Ayers jointly led in the late 1990s.

John McCain, take note. Obama’s tie to Wright is no longer a purely personal question (if it ever was one) about one man’s choice of his pastor. The fact that Obama funded extremist Afrocentrists who shared Wright’s anti-Americanism means that this is now a matter of public policy, and therefore an entirely legitimate issue in this campaign.

However he may seek to deny it, all evidence points to the fact that, from his position as board chair of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, Barack Obama knowingly and persistently funded an educational project that shared the extremist and anti-American philosophy of Jeremiah Wright. The Wright affair was no fluke. It’s time for McCain to say so.

Just one view of liberal attacks

I can’t turn on cable T.V. without seeing attack after attack on Sarah Palin. And to make things worse, today has been a steady stream of liberals out in force and backed up by the media, mostly on MSNBC. Tonight it was showing clips of the minister giving a prayer at a McCain rally that really had everyone going. And, someone had brought a monkey doll with an Obama sticker on it. Yes, tacky.

But what all these people will not acknowledge is that their “side” is guilty of the the same kind of attacks directed at Palin. Sandra Bernhard, Bill Mahers, and even Rosie O.  This is the short list! There seems to be no end to the hateful, vicious, and to use a much used word lately “ugly” stuff. The Hollywood and New York types have come out of the liberal woodwork to pounce on Palin.  They put her down, make fun of her and worse. I hope they can hold it together for a few more weeks. They will be in need of major therapy and anger management sessions.

The very thing the Liberals say that McCain/Palin are doing- they are doing. But according to them it is McCain/Palin who are to do the apologizing. The McCain/Palin ticket are inciting racism and hate. I guess that it is liberal mentality to not be able to see mean and ugly ways are a two-way street.

Hollywood types mean nothing to me. Liberal media is like an endurance contest. These two groups have it all wrong. They are just as rude, unkind, mean and vicious as any Conservative that they continue to rant about.

There – I said it- I feel better- and will until I turn on the T.V. again and am forcefully reminded why Nov. 4 can not come too soon.

Defeat Mr. Photo-Op: Let’s Send Schmett to Congress

We have been quiet on this race for far too long. It is definitely one that is winnable for Republicans this year as many Democrats are frustrated with the regions current representation. This race is for the 3rd District for US House of Representatives. The contenders in this race are Leonard “Photo-Op” Boswell and Kim Schmett. Schmett is a not exactly a newcomer to the political scene although this is the first time that he has run for an office. He has been involved in politics for many years including a stint as the chief of staff for former Congressman Greg Ganske. So Schmett knows the political arena and how to play the game so to speak. Unfortunately we haven’t seen much from Schmett yet, but we still have time for him to light the fire.

Recently the Des Moines Register sat down with these two opponents in a Q & A session where they asked the candidates the same questions. I will not bore you with the answers to each question; instead I will highlight just a few responses from the session. One question that I thought was irrelevant when one considers recent events. That question regarded whether the candidates would vote for an appropriations bill that contained a timeline for withdrawal from Iraq. I thought that this was moot point since Bush and the Iraqi government had already covered this one. I thought that the US was going to begin withdrawing from Iraq at the request of the Iraqi government. Surely the editorial staff of the Des Moines Register was aware of that.

A response that really got my attention was in regards to the economy. The question was whether the candidates thought that the government should extend loan guarantees to homeowners who are having problems paying their debt. Naturally Boswell decided on the liberal side of the aisle on this issue. In other words, Boswell is fine with handing out more taxpayer money to help those that overreached. Schmett knocked this one out of the park with his response. And I quote, “The government does not have the obligation to protect either borrowers or lenders who have made unwise investment decisions.” I really like Schmett’s answer. This is obviously the most constitutional answer that I have heard recently.

Then came the obvious question. Abortion. The answers should be obvious; Boswell stated that there should be no more restrictions placed on abortion. On the other side of the spectrum Schmett stated that he was opposed to abortion with a few exceptions. Those exceptions would be in the case of incest, rape, and if the life of the mother was in danger. For many this is a sort of litmus test for candidates. I daresay that if Schmett had agreed with Boswell then he would have lost the support of many across the district.

On the issue of health insurance these two differed as well. Boswell voiced his support for a national universal health care system. He says that there are several different approaches to healthcare, but he did not say which one he supported. Schmett’s response was that he supports comprehensive healthcare reform, but that he was opposed to “socialization” of the healthcare industry. In this respect I believe that Schmett is on the right track. Boswell seems to be following the party line.

Another issue on many voters mind is the issue of stem cell research. The question in this case was if the candidates would support easing the restrictions on funding stem cell research. Once again the Democrat was willing to say yes he vote to ease restrictions on stem cell research. And Schmett, who has proven to be an almost polar opposite of Boswell, stated that he would not vote to ease restrictions on stem cell research.

It is obvious that these two candidates come from two different sides of an ideological divide. Naturally I think that Schmett has the potential to unseat his Democratic opponent. If you want to read more of the questions, please visit the link above for more information on these two candidates.

Christopher Reed on Harkin’s role in our Wall Street woes

<!–[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <![endif]–><!–[if gte mso 9]> <![endif]–><!–[endif]–> <!–[endif]–>

Iowa Voters- need another reason to vote for Christopher Reed? Ponder how Tom Harkin has stuck it to the taxpayers. That’s us! It took a few years for us to understand what he did. We  have his number now! We are all paying the price for Harkin’s successful support of the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000.  I did not trust Harkin before and I do not want him returned to Washington, D.C. again.

And Christopher, keep the information on Harkin coming our way. You have the support of Iowa Defense Alliance. I took the time to watch your video and was glad that I did.

Reed campaign: Releases “You Tube” video
10/13/2008

REED RELEASES “YOU TUBE” VIDEO
“Your answers to the country’s financial woes. . .”

Marion – Christopher Reed, Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, today released a video on YouTube. It addresses Sen. Harkin’s role in today’s Wall Street woes.

‘It is amazing how a few words buried in an appropriations bill in 2001 are now having catastrophic effects on today’s financial world,” said Reed. He is referring to the words in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2001 in which a section of the bill are from the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 that Sen. Harkin co-sponsored.

“Sen. Harkin let Wall Street take our retirement funds to the riverboat and gamble with them. Unfortunately, they lost, and now we are having to pay for their fun and games. It is not right that they lost OUR money and now WE have to pay AGAIN to get them out of a deficit. This is not right, and government needs to change,” said Reed.

Christopher Reed is the Republican nominee running against Sen. Tom Harkin in the November 4th election. Sen. Harkin is serving his 5th term in the United State Senate. Reed won the 3-way primary in June for the right to run against Harkin, who has now served for 30 years.

The YouTube video can be viewed by searching for “Christopher Reed 2008, Iowa” on www.youtube.com. More information on candidate Christopher Reed can be viewed at www.christopherreed2008.com.

“Sen. Harkin co-sponsored S. 3283 in the 106th Congress which states, ‘to streamline and eliminate unnecessary regulation to the commodities futures exchange and other entities regulated under the Commodity Exchange Act,’ therefore allowing for what is called “credit Default Swaps,’” said Reed. “This is how companies were allowed to gamble your investments among each other, superseding any state gaming laws that were currently on the books.”

Reed continued by saying that the Washington Post and CNNMoney.com have also mentioned this legislation. “All an individual needs to do is look in the archives of these two well-known publications and they will find reference to Sen. Harkin’s legislation.”
