RPI Forum Update
January 3, 2009 3 Comments
I have just returned from the RPI chair candidate forum where I captured as much as I could on Twitter. I tried to relay many of the main points, but remember, I am only human and probably missed points or misunderstood some. (Plus, I can only text so fast.)
You can go to my Twitter profile page to read what was discussed. You have to go back about three pages to get to where I started covering the forum and then you should be able to follow the conversation. I hope this helps keep everybody updated!
Good Twitter synopsis for those who couldn’t be there. I still say Carrol, Strawn, Pate are the three real contenders. I can’t believe Krishna and Sporer weren’t there and really hope that’s not indicative of a backroom deal.
I do take issue with one thing. Alot of people talk about adhering to the platform. Sounds great, but remember the platform is always changing – every two years at convention to be exact – and what ends up on it depends on who’s there voting, and the skill of those behind it in steering the process. I read it and generally agree but not always.
There is only platform I follow: The Constitution of the United States of America and it’s supporting documents the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence. If a plank in the GOP platform disagrees then that plank gets ignored.
And if the GOP has a problem with that then I won’t be in the party for very long, and I assume there are many others that won’t be either.
Lets just not have a platform. Lets not believe in anything. That will win elections.
Let’s just all throw up our hands, threaten to leave the party, have a temper tantrum. Yeah, and not have a platform. I get it. Threats and pouting. And, as we have come to know, many of the people who represent the people don’t read the platform anyway… let alone the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights. No wonder we are in a mess.
