Our elected officials do increasingly look down on us as stupid sheep. They are more important, and more special. While during election cycles they preach about needing to rid ourselves of the divisiveness of race, economic status and political parties, they seek to divide themselves from us as a ruling class versus those that serve the rulers. America was founded on the concept that things work the opposite. The power does not rest with our elected officials, but with the electors who put them there.

Despite how much disdain our elected officials show us, we keep sending them back. We could limit their terms with our votes, but do not. I think term limits are a great idea ( the President has them, and the Articles of Confederation had them for Representatives ) but doubt Congress will ever make an amendment like that. They are to fat and happy where they are.
