Another Obama nomination with a “mistake” with taxes

Here we go again. I say again. Another Obama nomination for a job in the Obama administration owes back taxes. I am starting to wonder if this “mistake” is a common for D.C types, elites, and just anyone who knows the ropes to not fork up what they owe.
In the portions of the article I share what bothers me most is the “few minor issues” uncovered and to get the “nomination moved through quickly.”
It is obvious to me that those in power in D.C. think that Americans who DO pay their taxes will become accustomed to hearing the news of important people (?) not paying their taxes just as they want us to become numb to the billions/trillions being spent of our money. Pushing something through “quickly” does not make it right, does not make it acceptable.
Where are the leaders with character? It’s not just the tax cheaters. It’s also the people that nominate candidates for government jobs who lack character as much as those who move “quickly” to get tax cheaters confirmed. There is a huge lack of character all the way around.
I would say that many in Washington, D.C. need lessons from Character Counts. Let me name some.
TRUSTWORTHINESS: Be honorable and upright, live by your principles, do what is right even when it is hard, costly. Have integrity.
RESPONSIBILITY: Acknowledge and meet your legal and moral obligations. Accept responsibility for the consequences of your choices, not only for what you do but what you don’t do. Set a good example.
CITIZENSHIP: Observe the laws, honor and respect the principles of democracy.
From the article about Ron Kirk:
Ron Kirk, nominated as U.S. Trade Representative in the Obama administration, owes an estimated $10,000 in back taxes from earlier in the decade and has agreed to make his payments, the Senate Finance Committee said Monday.
White House spokesman Ben LaBolt said Kirk was working to clear up “a few minor issues” uncovered by the committee and expressed confidence he would be confirmed.
Despite the error, Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, issued a statement calling Kirk “the right person for this job,” and said he would attempt to have the nomination moved through the panel quickly.
If you or me or anyone out here in the real world outside Washington D.C. let our income taxes go unpaid we would be arrested and thrown in jail yet they seem its no big deal. This is insulting to everyone who pays taxes and we should stand up and say enough ! Get out and vote in the next election stand up for ourselves and vote out these numbskulls.
“The problem involved “discrepancies about the appropriate place on the IRS Form 1040 for certain items of income and deductions to be reported,” according to a report posted on the committee’s website.”
I found the above statement in an article about Kirk.
If there really was a FAIRtax then there would not be the ease in which people, especially politicians, could cheat.
This committee seems to be going all out to confirm this nomination. What’s a little cheating got to do with rushing through yet another best Obama guy for a D.C. job?
Woodrow, you are so right, this nomination is INSULTING!
I have been wondering lately what would happen if Americans who in the past have faithfully and honestly paid their taxes would band together and decide they would not pay them this year. What would happen if we refuse to pay our taxes A) because the bigshots don’t have to and B) because we don’t like the way our tax money is being spent. ?????????????
Y’all should read the details in this story. I see the Senate Republican staff doesn’t blame Kirk either. The $10,000 sounded big to me,but his income was big and the details were pretty technical. I can see how they missed it and thought no taxes were owed on the contributions. The sports tickets are a bit different, but maybe he really bought them and just lacked ticket stubs to prove it.
I seen Geithner on yesterday saying he was going after the companies who owed back taxes im thinking your a big hypocrit and tax cheat yourself but hes seen the light now and paid his, so he can criticize everyone else now. I feel so confident with the bunch we have running the country now they cant run their own affairs but can run something as big as our govt. I got to keep remembering WE WON You Lost NO in the end were all gonna lose here folks when this all goes south there is NO ONE LEFT to bail out the world full of debt. Only way i see that could happening is we all agree to erase the debts and each country start fresh.
