Jerry- I'm a new-comer to the convo, but after reading your comments, wanted to reply. Check first whether the pollster leans D or R- it will be obvious to one who really cares to know the truth, then check the actual question and phrasing- big clincher! I've made those poll calls, and am amazed at the complete lack of education and understanding of not only what's going on, but on the ramifications of such, and add to that a deliberately misleading question, such as one where your answer can be construed to mean the exact opposite of what you mean by clever or unrevealing phrasing, and you've got a ramrod of propoganda to use to dupe the public into thinking they are in the minority when nothing can be further from the truth.., but since they FEEL like the underdog, they then lose motivation to speak out- this is the Democrat machine in a nutshell! When you actually explain the question, however, you get a 70% agreement with conservative values, AT MINIMUM! Stop being bullied by the propogandists all you conservatives, or all IS lost due to cowardice and fear. That's not how we became a nation!

Abregar and POD,

You didn't look close enuf. It says, "The survey was conducted on February 17-18, 2009, by Public Policy Polling, and had a margin or error of plus or minus 3 1/2%."

Click the top link (at the site) for the national polls, conducted in previous years by other groups.

I also find it true that my political friends don't support the NPV. I think it's safe to accuse these people of having "insider's disease." That happens to people who understand a system quite well and revel in their expertise. But try asking people who aren't registered or are registered No Party or just people who vote occassionally but never in the primary. Expect much less support for the esoteric electoral college from these people. And they do outnumber the insiders who love to count electoral votes two years before the election and propose VP nominees in order to carry certain swing states. That may even be motivating Culver to oppose reform---he imagines himself a VP that could carry Iowa! Ha!

Jerry,

I am sure that the numbers being presented by that group are far from accurate. I have talked to Democrats and Republicans alike and once they know how it would work they are opposed to it.
I am sorry but I don't buy the groups numbers.

That must have been an unusual group of people at the party, if they reacted with "stunned disbelief" at the national popular vote idea. Polls show it has 75% support in Iowa, as you can see at their website
