Letter to Congressman Leonard Boswell
March 19, 2009 7 Comments
Representative Boswell,
I am a concerned citizen from the 3rd Congressional District. I have actually had an opportunity to meet with you on several occasions. At one point in time I felt that you were an individual that was generally interested in upholding the laws of our nation. However many of your recent actions have changed my position on your representation. One such occurrence is your position on AIG contractually obligated bonuses.
It is by now a well known fact that Senator Chris Dodd removed the provision that would have prevented this faux scandal from occurring. Naturally you along with several other Democrats in the House are feigning outrage that this is happening. The truth of the matter is that most Americans knew that this would happen. And if you had read the bill before passing it you would have known that too. Your failure to read this bill before passing it was to put it mildly a serious breach of confidence. Your actions have lead to loss of confidence in your leadership. And among other things it leads me to speculate as to what other measures you have voted for because Democratic leadership told you too.
Based on your recent actions it has become obvious that you no longer represent the common sense Iowa values that you claim that you cherish. Now as a citizen of the 3rd Congressional District I must respectfully request your resignation effective immediately.

What do you think about the UAW contracts with Detroit Automakers? Should we bailout GM now or force them to abrogate their contracts with their employees as part of the deal?
Had they taken the time to read and discuss, this would not have happened.
Yes, I’m outraged. Yes, I think millions is a great deal of money even if it is a small part of trillions.
Jerry,
I think that we should have let GM fail. Then through bankruptcy court the labor contracts could quite possibly have been renogotiated. The same thing should havee happened with AIG. Let it fail and enter bankruptcy procedings. The end results might have been companies that are better equiped to deal with the harsh realities of the business world. All the government did was to prolong the agony.
In regards to bailout of the banks, it was a deeply flawed plan from the beginning. The fact that our Congressman did not read the bill prior to passing it demonstrates the incompetance and arrogance of our elected leaders, a great many of them Democrats.
You dont go giving out billions in cash 7 months ago with no strings attached and then act offended when they paid out bonus’s and Obama voted for this. Did he not read the dam bill also ? I would lay odds on he didnt either, nor didnt care and is now trying to take the heat off his own arse. If congress is that incompentant then we need to ask for all the people who voted for the Tarp bill to Resign. And the bill passed yesterday taking almost 100% of it in taxes is a foot in the door to come after more tax money from you and me in the future i can see this happening. They are testing the waters.
How many of you out there could screw up in your jobs this much and still be employed? Sickening.
We need more Iowa news. All this mess nationally is distracting to the mess Gronstal and Culver are doing in our state. Culver is doing an Obama clone program.. spending bill and completely ignoring that a project worth 10 times what he proposed was canceled in good part because Culver did not support it.
