Public Hearing on House Study Bill 284
March 30, 2009 6 Comments
Last week the Democrats controlling the state legislature outlined their proposal to eliminate one of the most widely used tax deductions, the federal deductibility. This bill is known as House Study Bill 284.
There is plenty of opposition to this bill. And at the same time there is support for the bill. No matter which side of the issue you fall on make sure that you attend the public hearing being held at the capital building tomorrow evening (Tuesday March 31, 2009) at 7:30 PM in the evening. As I stated, regardless of which side of the issue you are on, please be sure to attend this hearing to let your voice be heard.
What: Public hearing on House Study Bill 284
When: Tuesday March 31, 2009 at 7:30 PM
Where: State Capital
I’ll be there!
If they get rid of this deduction for the rich, it will be much easier to do your own taxes. Sorting your way thru the section called “additions and subtractions for federal taxes” is the hardest part of Iowa’s 1040.
So you will likely get a tax cut AND be able to do the tax forms yourself. You’ll save TWICE!
Jerry, You need to quit listening to what the Democratic leadership in this state tells you. It is all smoke and mirrors. Run the numbers yourself. I would be willing to bet that like myself you would end up having to pay more in taxes and I don’t consider myself rich.
Jerry- I take exception to your comments. You are misinformed.
Period.
No such a thing as saving “twice”… it is taxing twice.
My parents and other family members are hard working farmers being TAXED TO DEATH! So speak for yourself. It is not just the rich that are getting hit with proposed taxes and new taxes.
You are just too blinded by your liberal ways to see it! You have bought into the liberal crap hook, line, and sinker.
Now, I know by making my statements you will come back to rant about what I have said. Go ahead…. make my day!
Crusader,
We will save twice—once because tax rates for most people will be lower when this is straightened out, and a second time because we won’t need a tax advisor to tell us how to navigate thru Step 6 (lines 27-35) of the Iowa 1040. Even people whose state taxes will go up can still save on the tax preparation end if they can now do their own taxes.
Farmers aren’t taxed to death any more than any other group. They are taxed according to their level of adjusted gross income, same as doctors and lawyers and bloggers. But farmers can deduct their new pickups. That’s why they all have them!
A person tonight at the public hearing has his CPA run the numbers on this so called tax break and based on last years numbers instead of getting a small kick back from Iowa he would have to pay almost 700 dollars into some tax cut.
