Wall of Shame for Matt Strawn?

I wrote an earlier post criticizing Matt Strawn and the RPI’s lack of action in regards to the Iowa Supreme Court’s ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act.  It seemed to me that this issue exploded the grassroots and the activists while bringing out warriors in the Republican political class.  Instead of capitalizing on this renewed enthusiasm of the people and highlighting the politicians who were taking a principled stance, we heard crickets chirping from the RPI.  In fact, in the last two Chairman Reports Mr. Strawn did not even mention the fight for traditional marriage which happens to be one the top planks in the Republican Party Platform.

As you know, IDA has something called the Wall of Shame and we were wondering if we should place Matt Strawn on this wall for his lack of conviction on the marriage subject.  We then decided to do the right thing no matter what we believe; we are allowing our readers to VOTE on the issue.

IDOT Director Nancy Richardson Should Resign

If nothing else, bad BAD public relations have been exhibited by IDOT Director Nancy Richardson in the way she has responded to the outrageous traffic stop/RV search perpetrated on us by one of her law enforcement officers. Read below and you will see that by adding insult to injury she is doing the already tarnished image of her agency no favors. Queen of IDOT she seems to be, Damage Control Expert she most certainly is not.

We sent our first e-mail to Ms. Richardson on Tuesday April 14 at 1:11 P.M. In this e-mail we described the horrendous events of the traffic stop/RV search and listed our concerns about the officer in question Darrell Wiegand. In our e-mail we also questioned specific policies of IDOT which– due to our own observations plus discussions with other citizens and two representatives from IDOT —had begun to raise serious red flags for us.

Ms. Richardson responded quite tersely to our e-mail and not until nearly forty eight hours later, specifically at 9:09 AM on April 16. She did not employ the courtesy of a salutation, nor did she place her name at the end as author of the e-mail:

“This is to acknowledge receipt of your E-mail. I have asked staff for some information to answer the questions you pose. As soon as I have that, I will be in contact again. Thanks for your patience.”

To us this hardly seemed like an auspicious or gracious response to our e-mail which involved some very disturbing allegations against her employee and her agency. Nor did the nearly two day interval between our e-mail and hers indicate Ms. Richardson was particularly respectful of us or particularly cognizant of the seriousness of the matters at hand.

We also thought it odd that in responding to our request for answers to specific questions, Ms. Richardson did not seem to have the answers handy but had to have her staff look them up. In all fairness, when we did receive the answers they were quite exhaustive and appeared to have been copied painstakingly off a website–hardly work for a woman of Ms. Richardson’s position and stature, and no doubt transcribed with some kind of legal concern in mind.

Our next communication from Ms. Richardson was in response to our request to meet with her. Again given her high profile and stature as an IDOT official, Ms. Richardson just naturally assumed that when we asked to visit with her we intended to drive close to two hundred miles one way to the Des Moines area. It did not seem to occur to her to give us the same courtesy as had her employee Major Ned Lewis, whose first inclination on hearing our concerns had been to drive down to visit us. (BTW, not only do we believe the burden of travel should be on Ms. Richardson, but we also no longer feel safe and secure on the roads of Iowa, knowing that apparently we can be pulled over by IDOT officers at any time for any reason they choose to invent, or in fact no reason at all. Nor do we have any guarantees that another traffic stop might not escalate into exactly what happened to us with Officer Wiegand.)

Unlike Major Lewis, Ms. Richardon’s attitude seemed to be based on the assumption she was granting us an audience. When she offered us the choice of going to Ankeny or Ames, we responded by saying she was invited to our home, but in her next e-mail she simply ignored our offer. When we asked the question point blank, as in “……we mentioned in our previous e-mail we were hoping you would be able to come to our home in Fort Madison. Is it possible for you to meet with us here?” she responded with the following e-mail, which for us says it all:

“Mr. And Mrs. Schneider,

A trip to Ft. Madison doesn’t work in my schedule. If you decide you don’t want to come to see me, we can do a phone conference. I am currently out of state with limited E-mail access, but if one of the times I provided works for you to come to meet with us or for a phone conference, please respond as soon as possible so my secretary can get the time secured. Thanks. “

Again, as you will notice, no gracious salutation, no polite sign off, simply a perfunctory and dismissive message which reveals a could- care -less and imperious attitude.

This is part of the general culture of IDOT which has become all too familiar to us in the last few weeks. IDOT is a government agency which not only interprets the law in arbitrary ways but also seems to feel itself above the law. IDOT doesn’t seem to think it has any accountability to the taxpayers who fund it and in fact will use taxpayers money to fight taxpayers should they happen to challenge it as well they SHOULD.

Ms. Richardson’s patronizing, unprofessional, and rude attitude is very much the same–minus the element of terror– as what we experienced from the law enforcement officer for whose behavior she is responsible.

Given its director’s nature and actions we are not surprised that the culture of IDOT is what it is. As they say, the fish rots from the head down. IDOT, get rid of Director Richardson and replace her with somebody who cares and who will lift your agency out of its current state of irresponsibility and corruption, or somebody who at the very least is capable of doing halfway decent PR work.

Meanwhile, if I get pulled over again by an IDOT officer, the first thing I will do is call 911. Until I know that the corruption and abuse of power at IDOT have been remedied, I consider that being pulled over by IDOT is a threat to my life and well being.

My Email to DM Register’s Rekha Basu

In case you don’t know,  Rekha Basu writes opinion articles for the liberal biased Des Moines Register.  She is as far from my world-view as you can probably get and while she is just exercising her First Amendment rights, she recently has opened her mouth about a subject that is personal to both of us.  I thought I would let her know my side of it.  I originally planned this to be a letter to the editor but then reality set in that this piece of trash newspaper would never print it.  Instead, I thought I would email her directly so she had something to put in her trash bin today.

Dear Ms. Basu,

I am writing you mainly in response to your opinion pieces and various interviews concerning President Obama lifting the ban on embryonic stem cell research. I realize that this was awhile back but it has taken me some time to get this response together because it is a highly emotional issue for me, however, I am glad that I have waited this long to give my opinion because the wait has put some things in perspective for me.

Since the time the ban has been overturned, the Iowa Supreme Court has tried to implement a “law” allowing same-sex marriage. What is now blatantly apparent to me is that the people on your side of the debate are only interested in tolerance, inclusion, and equal rights if other people agree with you. I also have come to the conclusion that you have no respect for historical foundations, scientific facts, or the well-being of our future generations. You only care about the here and now and what are the hot button topics for your side to “win” at the expense of other peoples’ lives and well-being, and sometimes you are hurting the very people you say you are fighting for. Do you really think glorifying the homosexual lifestyle will finally make them “happy?”

While we are on the opposite sides when it comes to our world-views, we do have only one thing in common. Your husband was a victim of Lou Gehrig’s disease and so was my father. He did not get to see my children born nor did he even get to walk me down the aisle of my own wedding. He attended the wedding but had to be transported there in an ambulance and sit in the front of the church bound by his wheelchair and ventilator. I am telling you this just so you and everyone else knows that not all of us who have had a loved one suffer from a disease is willing to kill babies at the very beginning of their lives just for one shred of hope that there may be a cure. (By the way, my mother passed away from Alzheimer’s disease; another illness that embryonic stem cells supposedly could cure.)

I know that the argument is that these babies would be disposed of anyway, but then what do you suggest we do when we run out of them? That is when we will begin to create life to destroy life. The other argument is that these are not babies, however, at the moment of conception these lump of cells that make up a child have their own genetic blue print. I know that it doesn’t “look” like a baby but does a baby look like a teenager and does a teenager look like a senior? Have you ever thought that the human species at that stage of life looks just like they are supposed to look?

Even though I am 100% certain that my parents are alive in their eternal home with Jesus and are happier there than they ever could be here on earth, the selfish side of me still would love to have both of them back and cured. But if finding this cure involves killing someone else then it is as ethical as murdering a stranger on the street to get his lungs if someone needed a lung transplant. I know that there are legal ways to get an organ donation but I also know of someone who has died waiting for a donor. Do you?

Both of my parents fought their illnesses with every ounce of strength that they had because they cherished life so much and through that they taught me to cherish life. What legacy are you teaching your children?

Culver and Gronstal Continue Assault on Iowa’s Future

mike-gronstalAs the end of this year’s session of the Iowa General Assembly draws near tempers are beginning to flare at the statehouse. This is especially so when the legislation being debated is controversial, such as the Governor’s bonding proposal known as I-Jobs. A portion of this bonding proposal was voted upon in the Iowa Senate this afternoon, and ultimately it was passed by a vote of 30-18.

It has been pointed out time and time again that the Governors I-Jobs proposal would unnecessarily hamper future generations of Iowan’s. During the Senate debate this afternoon Senator Steve Kettering from Lake View reiterated the concerns that many Iowan’s have voiced over the last several weeks. “This year’s college freshman class will be 50 years old when all these bonds are finally paid.” Unfortunately that was not enough to sway the Democrats that voted to approve the bonding plan. Senator Randy Feenstra made a heartfelt plea to the Democrats with the following statement, “With this bill you are handcuffing us for 26 years.”

Of course no debate in the Iowa Senate could possibly be complete without Senator Gronstal voicing his opinion on things. Of the many assertions that he made was one in which he and his Democratic colleagues believe that Iowa has a bright future. To this I say that prior to the passage of this ill advised piece of legislation I thought that Iowa did indeed have a bright future, but that all changed when the Democrats decided to ransom our states future for their own self gratification.

The most asinine comment of that I am aware of is the comment made by Senator Dennis Black from Grinnell. He was responding to the claim that it would be our children that would be paying for the Democrats folly. Black’s assertion was that it would be gamblers that pay for the borrowed money. Really Senator Black, do you think that people with children don’t gamble? Do you think that all people give up their vices when the children arrive? Don’t count on it; most often it is the children that are the real victims of gambling.

The arrogance displayed by both Chet Culver and Mike Gronstal is astounding. Despite the public outcry against I-Jobs, these two Democrats have proceeded to railroad their disastrous plan through the Iowa General Assembly without regard to the consequences. It is evident from their actions and their comments that the Democratic leadership is clearly practicing the politics of arrogance.

Save the Redneck plus requested Garofalo apology

On this rainy, cool Iowa Saturday afternoon I offer up a website to visit to learn about Rednecks. Yes, learn something! Check out the entire site!

http://www.savetheredneck.com/about.htm

I find the “Redneck Values” very admirable! And I wish them the best with getting an apology from Ms. Garofalo! Keith Olbermann really was an accessory to the vicious attack on Americans AND Rednecks- so an apology from him would be a nice touch as well.

Actually- give me a REDNECK as described on this site any day/any time over the likes of MSNBC holier than thou types. I would never describe Keith O as “honorable” or “hospitable”…. Well, maybe hospitable to anyone on his show who wishes to Bash Bush or other Conservatives.

Redneck Values

  • Independent
  • Hard working
  • Hospitable
  • Practical
  • Honorable
  • Modest
  • Honest
  • With strong ties to land and family

And information on the requested apology from Janeane Garofalo:

Save the Redneck, an organization dedicated to honoring Redneck heritage and celebrating Redneck culture, today called for an apology from 24 star and political activist Janeane Garofalo for disparaging Rednecks. She mostly went after “Republicans” and “right-wingers” in talking to MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann about Americans protesting government bailouts, but did mention “tea-bagging rednecks,” too. Crit Callebs, co-founder of Save the Redneck, says, “Our aim is to set the record straight and celebrate everything positive about being a redneck.”

Enjoy learning about Rednecks. I sure did! Actually, I have Rednecks in my family and am proud of it!

Time for Miller and Gronstal to go

I have been paying attention to Iowa Attorney Generals threatening of County Recorders if they stand up to say NO to issuing same sex marriage licenses.

In checking out the bio of Tom Miller I find he is in his “seventh 4 year term” and that he “has earned a reputation for integrity, high quality legal work, and strong work on behalf of ordinary Iowans.”

No- Mr. Miller is not working on behalf of Iowans with his domineering style to the County Recorders. He is taking power that is not his to take.

Iowans – it is time to stand up to the Tom Miller’s of Iowa. We need to join together to expect the Republican Party and our Republican legislators to stand up to this man and then to work together to make sure he does NOT have an eighth 4 year term.

And while I am at it- where is the plan to dethrone Senator Gronstal? Is there one?

If there is a plan- I want to know about it. If there is not a plan- THERE NEEDS TO BE!

Let’s start now to form an army of citizens who will not be rolling over and play Conservative Dead to the Millers and Gronstals of Iowa who are out to ruin our state with their liberal views and high handed ways.

To make it clear- out with Miller and out with Gronstal. Their time is up. But before I go I include what Tom Miller has posted on the Iowa Department of Justice website.

UPDATE April 21, 2009 — Attorney General Tom Miller statement: County Recorders must comply with Supreme Court Varnum decision:
We expect duly-elected county recorders to comply with the Iowa Constitution as interpreted unanimously by the Iowa Supreme Court, the highest court in Iowa. Our country lives by and thrives by the rule of law, and the rule of law means we all follow the law as interpreted by our courts — not by ourselves. We don’t each get to decide what the law is; that would lead to chaos. We must live by and follow what the courts decide.
Iowa’s recent Supreme Court ruling concluded: “The language in Iowa Code section 595.2 limiting civil marriage to a man and a woman must be stricken from the statute, and the remaining statutory language must be interpreted and applied in a manner allowing gay and lesbian people full access to the institution of civil marriage.”
The Court’s ruling applies everywhere in Iowa, in every county. Recorders do not have discretion or power to ignore the Iowa Supreme Court’s ruling.
As we have advised recorders for several days: All county recorders in the state of Iowa are required to comply with the Varnum decision following issuance of procedendo from the Supreme Court, and to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples in the same manner as licenses issued to opposite gender applicants.
If necessary, we will explore legal actions to enforce and implement the Court’s ruling, working with the Iowa Dept. of Public Health and county attorneys.
END

Gay rights activists at work in Iowa

Iowans- What are your thoughts after reading the Washington Post article “Gay marriage ruling followed careful campaign”?
Here is a portion of the article:

Gay marriage ruling followed careful campaign

When taking the legal route, the activists identify same-sex couples to bring “test” cases, typically after meeting and spending time with scores of couples. They prepare the selected couples for what is likely to be intense, sometimes harsh, media attention. They study the state’s constitution and review past court rulings, waiting to move until they feel the political and legal climate is favorable.

When taking the legislative route, the activists first get to know the political dynamics to identify friendly and potentially friendly lawmakers. They find residents to call lawmakers to express support for same-sex marriage. They start phone banks and launch petition drives. And, as with the court action, they wait until they believe the chances for success are good.

Socially conservative groups opposed to same-sex marriage say the activists are using the courts and legislatures because they’re afraid to put ballot measures before voters. Using these routes is “most certainly not fair to the voters – and it’s not fair to the people of Iowa and Vermont,” said Carrie Gordon Earll, a spokeswoman for Focus on the Family.

I for one am feeling used.

Used by the politicians who have taken money from the gay rights/sodomy marriage groups.

Used by those who say they believe that marriage is between one man and one woman but are doing nothing to stop the gay rights cancer that is invading Iowa.

While most of us were busy being citizens of Iowa- working, paying taxes, raising a family and volunteering in our communities the gay rights people invaded our state the past seven years and were “deliberate” in their goal to make sodomy marriage legal in Iowa.

By Governor Culver and the Iowa Legislature caving into the Liberal Iowa Supreme Court making their ‘opinion’ the law in Iowa we are in an even more grueling battle.

The battle includes the war waged on the internet. I share from a site that has a post entitled “Time is on our side…yes it is!”

…What does that mean?  Well, as it has been proven by at least two independent studies, Prop 8 passed in California mostly because of the older population.  Most of these Right Wing haters are old.  Most of the people who pay their salaries are old and at the risk of sounding completely negative myself, one of the sure things in life is that life comes to an end for all of us.
Wise men and women have often said “all good things come in time”.  I can only hope that with time, as these old, white, nasty people start to retire, their nasty old attitudes will not be replaced by people who think along the same lines as they do.
Whether or not time actually does heal all wounds, and whether or not good things will come to the LGBT community in time, I can’t help but to believe that time may be on our side, as these less tolerable people continue to just go away.

While the post goes against what I think and believe, it is an opinion that I read to be that all of the old, white and nasty people (this includes Iowans) will die off and (hopefully) be replaced by younger people with acceptance of the gay lifestyle which includes sodomy marriage.

April 27th approaches. Another day in the battle against same sex marriage and all that it means for Iowans- from what is taught in our schools and where out of state money is spent to elect (or defeat) Iowa candidates for public office.

Yes, it is a battle. Wake up Iowans. The battle has come to your door step.  This is not about a nice homosexual person in your workplace or who is your neighbor. This is about the gay rights agenda and gay rights activists who have worked for years to have their way in Iowa.

I for one will not let someone who labels me as “old, white, and nasty” have their voice heard over mine. What say you, my fellow Iowans?

Mike Huckabee in the news!

Mike Huckabee, my candidate, has been in the news and oh how I love it! In a March 31Townhall piece, Kevin McCullough sums up how I feel about Huckabee:

…no one believes Governor Huckabee walks on water, but they have learned that his word is his bond. They hear from his heart and they see that he is more like the everyday guy than any man to ever run for President.

They also value his judgment, and his ability to speak to what they are feeling.

Could not have said it better myself!

More Huckabee is highlighted in a great WORLDmag.com article, On the road again, which highlights Huckabee’s “hectic schedule.” Especially interesting and informative are Huckabee’s answers to questions about ‘past and current governmental fat.” Huckabee shows he has strengths in the area of foreign policy.

There is news about how well Huckabee would match-up with Obama in 2012 and how well Huckabee is doing with in the ratings for his cable news show on FOX.

More good news about how Mike Huckabee would compete against other Republican candidates:

A survey conducted by Public Policy Polling tested the popularity of four prominent Republicans: Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Among the four, Mr. Huckabee is the most popular with a 42 percent favorability rating, 34 percent negative. Mr. Romney also polled well, earning a 40 percent favorability rating versus 35 percent unfavorable.

Mrs. Palin and Mr. Gingrich, on the other hand, didn’t do so well. Mrs. Palin polled 42 percent favorable, 49 percent unfavorable. Mr. Gingrich’s ratings were 36 percent favorable, 44 percent unfavorable.

And finally, Mike Huckabee and his supporters are making a difference with supporting candidates by participating in  Huck PAC which is a “growing grassroots force…nationwide…”

Yes, it has been a happy few weeks following Mike Huckabee in the news! Mike Huckabee says he does not know if he will run for President in 2012 so until then, I will cling to my guns and to my religion. And I will continue to follow news of what Mike is saying and doing because “his word is his bond.”

And above all else, I can trust Mike Huckabee.

ACTION ALERT: Contact Governor Culver to Sign Executive Order

On April 3rd the Iowa Supreme Court unconstitutionally attempted to make same-sex marriage the law in Iowa. According to the Iowa Constitution the privilege of making laws is only for the legislature and the people of our great state. The court only offers an opinion on the law and then sends it back to the legislature for review and action. As we all know, Governor Culver and the Democratic legislature have turned their back on their oath of office to uphold the Iowa Constitution and Iowa law by letting the court’s opinion slide by and not acting on it or letting us vote on it. Since none of this has been done, our Defense of Marriage Act that passed in 1998 by the correct measures is still the law of our state.

Gubernatorial candidate Bob Vander Plaats has challenged Governor Culver to issue a stay on same-sex marriage until the issue can be resolve correctly by either the lawmakers or the people of Iowa and has drawn up the executive order for him. On April 27th County Recorders will be caught in the crossfire of our government not taking the appropriate steps to resolve this issue and a stay would allow the time needed to act on it. Mr. Vander Plaats has taken a courageous stand here both for the institution of marriage and against activist judges and courts attempting to make law.

Please call and email Governor Culver to sign the stay!

Read Bob Vander Plaats’ awesome press release.

Mainstream media: “propaganda and fiction”

Following the bias in the media has become an interest to me. Each day finds more to cause my uneasiness and fear for what various media outlets are doing to take down America. I found an article from The Bulletin by Herb Denenberg which not only points out what the media is doing with their bias and slanted reporting but also what President Obama is doing with “change that can destroy America.” I share portions of the article here but urge readers to read the entire piece.

… don’t underestimate the damages these papers are doing. The mainstream media was largely responsible for electing Mr. Obama. It has been responsible for covering up his radical policies, radical appointments and endless blunders. If not reversed somehow, the course set by Mr. Obama has the potential to destroy America and the free world. That means America faces three enemies that will destroy us if they get their way: the terrorists, the Obama administration and the mainstream media.

Add to what Mr. Denenberg has so clearly communicated is information in Liberty AND Tyranny by Mark R. Levin. I did not have to read far into the book to learn how the media is working in partnership with Modern Liberals, which Levin terms ‘Statists.’

Here is what Mr. Levin has to say about the subject of the media and Statists:

The Statist is also assisted by the media, for the media are the parasites of the Statist- not the government per se but the Statist. They gather information produced by the Statist and regurgitate it to the masses. The relationship between the Statist and media is symbiotic. The Statist protects the media and enhances the media’s clout by censoring the speech of others, usually at the insistence of the media.

While Mr. Denenberg points out biased media such as The New York Times (“the leader in biased, dishonest and fraudulent journalism…”) and The Philadelphia Inquirer his article really made me think of the newspaper that I have the most exposure to- the Des Moines Register.

Reading the Register after the public hearing where hundreds were forced out of the House Chamber you would have thought that the jeering, booing, and throwing of objects by a rowdy crowd was indeed a horrible hour of wild extremists in action. This was just not the case.

So the next time you read a newspaper please be your own thinker as to the spin and/or bias in the reporting. And remember what Mr. Denenberg says:

If you rely on the mainstream media you’re getting something that is closer to propaganda and fiction than to the news….
