Republican Party of Iowa: Hello, Anybody There?

It has become increasingly apparent that there are just a handful of Republicans who are stepping forward and fighting the two-fold battle that has surfaced here in Iowa.  The battle against activist judges and them unconstitutionally trying to make law and the battle to let Iowans vote on a marriage amendment.

The Iowa Supreme Court’s ruling has brought more activists to the statehouse than any other issue that has come up this session, but yet a majority of Republicans are not capitalizing on this political moment.  They are not harnessing the energy of this issue and doing everything they can to keep it on the front burner.  Not only does this demonstrate their lack of conviction on this issue but it also demonstrates their lack of knowledge on what it takes to win.

There is one organization that is 100% committed to getting Republicans elected and that is the Republican Party of Iowa, but where have they been since the court ruling came down on April 3rd?  Preceding the ruling the RPI was sending out press releases religiously; there were eleven in March alone and FOUR of them were on the one issue of the electoral college with the rest of them dedicated to fiscal issues.  I realize that the Democrats’ plan to get rid of the electoral college and move to a popular vote in the presidential election was stupid, but FOUR press releases on it?

Then the month of April comes along and the press releases from the RPI freeze up.  There was one released with Matt Strawn’s statement on the Supreme Court’s ruling that same day but I have heard crickets chirping since then.  Where were all the press releases and robo calls that were previously done on the other issues?  Even their twitter account died after the ruling.  It was almost like a taboo issue came up and they played the “out of sight, out of mind” game.  Did they not see the energy among the voters that this court ruling was generating?  Or did they just want to ignore the fact that the one plank in their platform for traditional marriage could be their ticket to victory in 2010.

    Iowa has a Republican party?

Activist judges? Like the ones in 2000 who stopped the Florida election process and enthroned King George the second?

We live in a republic, not a democracy. The people have the right to vote every two years in november, and to expect their legislators to look at all the facts, then enact laws. If you disagree, then unelect your representative in 2 years.

Good post, Rocker. Have you considered that maybe the RPI has seen the light of equal protection?

    • Iowans Rock says:

No, they haven’t seen the light that a majority of people support marriage being between one man and one woman only and that by standing by this principle they may actually gain voters.

Last i checked the bible said Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. I had a cousin and his boyfriend who both died of Aids in the 90s. Did i feel sorry for him? Not in the least bit he knew what he was getting into. I felt sorry for the rest of his family who had to attend his funeral. He wasnt even 40. This country is being torn apart in so many ways at this time it makes one wonder where to begin fighting back.
