ACTION ALERT: Contact Governor Culver to Sign Executive Order

On April 3rd the Iowa Supreme Court unconstitutionally attempted to make same-sex marriage the law in Iowa. According to the Iowa Constitution the privilege of making laws is only for the legislature and the people of our great state. The court only offers an opinion on the law and then sends it back to the legislature for review and action. As we all know, Governor Culver and the Democratic legislature have turned their back on their oath of office to uphold the Iowa Constitution and Iowa law by letting the court’s opinion slide by and not acting on it or letting us vote on it. Since none of this has been done, our Defense of Marriage Act that passed in 1998 by the correct measures is still the law of our state.
Gubernatorial candidate Bob Vander Plaats has challenged Governor Culver to issue a stay on same-sex marriage until the issue can be resolve correctly by either the lawmakers or the people of Iowa and has drawn up the executive order for him. On April 27th County Recorders will be caught in the crossfire of our government not taking the appropriate steps to resolve this issue and a stay would allow the time needed to act on it. Mr. Vander Plaats has taken a courageous stand here both for the institution of marriage and against activist judges and courts attempting to make law.
