Pushing for a Nation of Liars by Ryan Rhodes

I hope I have your attention because now it’s time to ask yourself a serious question about the direction of America and how we got here. Once again on a national stage we have seen something very dangerous from the left as they push people to tell them what they want to hear instead of the truth. This however isn’t simply a fault of the liberals, as I got to thinking across the board we are pushing people into telling lies. When Perez Hilton asked the question to Miss California he had no intention or desire to hear what she had to say, rather he made it perfectly clear it was her job to lie to him in a pageant that should emulate among other things character. Whether she would have won is a whole different debate and missing the point.

It did make me realize how often we are told by those judging us and teaching us…hey lie to me otherwise you will be punished. This doesn’t mean there aren’t consequences if someone misbehaves and they may lie to get out of it. I’m talking about how in classrooms and universities across the country we are teaching people to lie if they want get a grade or keep their teaching job. When we have an education system teaching people to lie for their degrees or to get tenure then how can we possibly expect honest politicians, judges, or businessmen?

Don’t believe me here is a direct quote from an old teacher “to get an A in this class you must develop your philosophies to be in line with the way I want them to be.” When I ran for office there were teachers and grad students who said you have my vote but I have to be quiet since I might not graduate or I might not get tenure. A case in point rather than having an honest debate of the issue of intelligent design those at Iowa State chose to get rid of a teacher. If you have seen the movie Expelled you might know exactly what I’m talking about. Our education system among other areas are telling you that if you don’t lie about what you believe then we won’t debate the issue we will just fail you.

So I ask you once again why are you surprised when a politician lies to you? After all we have made it abundantly clear it doesn’t matter what they do it matters what they tell you they will do. I challenge everyone the next time you disagree with someone challenge yourself and to reason. Keeping an open mind isn’t about saying anything goes it’s about realizing sometimes we don’t know everything but do you want to remain ignorant, will you buy in to the lie to me cop out, or will you rise above and own what you believe because you can back it up. We got here because in our schools and our churches we were afraid to inquire or challenge things that didn’t sit quite right with us.

America bring back debate let’s have a discussion and god forbid an argument, then we will no longer head toward becoming a nation of waffling wimps. If you disagree go challenge your teacher, pastor, politician, or friend…you might even learn something or maybe they will.

It is your 1st Amendment right to speak your mind, be the Patriot our founders wanted you to be. The truth may always be easier to remember but sometimes it’s harder to say.

ACTION ALERT: Circulate this petition before court’s “law” goes into effect

Since the Iowa legislature and Governor Culver have failed to address the discrepancy between the Iowa law banning same-sex marriage and the Iowa Supreme Court’s opinion on that law and they are not allowing Iowans to vote on the issue, State Senator Merlin Bartz has decided that the conflict between the two branches of government should be dealt with by “we the people.”

The County Recorders are the people who will be in the crossfire on an issue that isn’t being dealt with by the very people who made the law.  (Supposedly there are more “important” issues to be dealt with like finding those 51 votes to raise your taxes.)  Citing the Iowa Constitution, and Iowa Code concerning marriage, Senator Bartz has presented a petition for Iowa Citizens to use as they encourage their Recorder to refuse to issue so-called same sex “marriage” licenses.

The goal is to have as many signatures as possible to be presented to the County Recorders on the morning of April 27th when the new same-sex marriage “law” is to begin.  Please go to www.letusvoteiowa.org to find this petition and instructions on how to follow through with it.

Story County Recorder Vandekamp is a yes

April 27th should be just another spring day in Iowa. Not this year. Citizens will be watching what happens in county recorder offices around the state. No need to watch Story County.

We now know that Republican Story County Recorder Susan Vandekamp has made her decision known and WILL begin issuing marriage licenses to gays and lesbians who show up at the Story County Administration Building on April 27.  Signed petitionsby citizens/voters obviously will not be enough to sway Vandekamp from participating in what the Iowa Supreme Court opinion has made the law of Iowa.

I am disappointed by this news. May there be county recorders who will stand up and be counted with saying “no” to being forced to take part in this assault on Iowa.

Guest Commentary: What Happened to Reasoning in America?

Now I understand that there is a difference of opinion when it comes to the definition of marriage.  But have we become so ignorant and intolerant that thoughtful debate and reasoned argument is no longer possible?  How far from the founding have we drifted? Now I don’t think we should run around yelling at each other all day but please I beg of you let reason and debate bring us forward. We have an education system that is stifling debate and dumbing down our culture. I find it very interesting that an education system that is preaching ever changing morality and teaching children there is no such thing as black and white right and wrong is the first to chastise those with alternate opinions. They tell you to question social constructs and question what your parents tell you but god forbid you question them. An atheist will call a Christian intolerant yet try to eradicate and chastise anything relating to God as ignorant and simple minded. So we have created a society that shuns any form of conflict or debate. Because our education has primarily created two types of survival mechanisms.

We have one that creates robots who spout exactly they hear from their teachers and some mainstream news pushing to alienate anyone with a differing opinion because they are so afraid someone might disagree therefore throwing all reason to the curb and conforming.

Then we have those who just have to get through the college years and don’t fully buy into the indoctrination going on in a few of the classrooms however remain quiet due to the punishment which comes from a differing opinion. For a student it may be a lower grade, for others it could be the loss of a job, or as in the case that brought this about being blackballed as Miss America. Now I understand that this subject matter can be very sensitive and for others very inflammatory.  We have one side saying gay is the new black and that this discrimination cannot be tolerated. Well for one I would argue that an African American can no sooner wake up a different color than a cat can wake up a dog. (Now I know what you’re thinking and leave Michael Jackson out of this)

However ask yourself this can a man chose not to marry a woman or vice versa? Can those with homosexual tendencies choose to have relations with those of the same sex or opposite sex? So regardless of how you believe there is no way to argue that marriage is an inalienable between those of the same sex or those of opposite gender it is a conscious choice made marry.  Therefore it must enter into a debate that something beyond the realm of the inevitable is dictating said behavior and choice. Which is where I believe it stems into the realm of morality one of our constitutions indispensable supports.

What I mean is that under this argument you cannot wake up and not participate in being black…however you can wake up and choose to participate in a physical action whether it is a heterosexual act or a homosexual act. This is a conscious act and therefore requires us to invoke conscious thought and go down the road of reasoned debate to properly defend any stance we take on the issue.  Now to wrap this up I’m not here to defend the manner in which Miss California deemed to answer the question or the discrimination in which the judges decide to engage. I however am here to ask those of you reading this to stop simply listening to what someone else told you to believe and start reasoning for yourself. The judges blindly attacked and Miss California didn’t seem to have fully reasoned out her answer. I do give her credit for standing on a belief she seems to hold dear but she should also know why and relish sharing where that belief came from beyond just a feeling. I hope someone challenges you argues with you and makes you defend what you believe because otherwise it is just empty words. But when they challenge you don’t let them get away with made up facts or illogical reasoning go back read research and work out that which you believe and put faith in, with fear and trembling.

My call in this realm is to Conservatives challenge the thought process of those who disagree and be ready for them to challenge you, don’t be afraid of modern liberalism. When you are put the test it is a time for conservatism to shine after all we are right and in the arena of ideas we will prove it.  Stop being on the defensive about everything and start taking the offensive, break down the mental barriers of the statist and start inserting the ideals of liberty and freedom. We cannot stand for this intolerance to spread among Americans, it will not be easy because someone may decide they don’t like you but our founders were willing to die for that freedom they put everything on the line. Please the least we can say is we will have a debate, we will inform the public, and we will not be afraid. Why you ask because we are Americans and when our principles are under fire and hope looks lost we will break the spirit of those who wish to break the American spirit, when they ask us if we have struck our colors or answer is and always will be “I have not yet begun to fight!”

Miss California Really Did Win

I have never been a huge fan of beauty pageants and it has nothing to do with the judging on evening gowns and swimsuits because contestants enter the pageant at their own free will knowing what the criteria is.  While I am all for young women setting a goal and working to achieve it, I just never liked the idea of a select group of people determining who is the winner and who are the losers and the contestants trying to please them.

During the Miss USA Pageant last night, Miss California changed all of that for me.  It’s obvious that Carrie Prejean had no intention of gaining brownie points with openly gay gossip blogger Perez Hilton (why is a gossip blogger important enough to be a judge anyway?) when he asked her if she believed that more states should allow same-sex marriage.

Here is her response……

Notice that her response is pretty tame and stems from her opinions and how she was raised (she even stumbles with her answer a bit).  She is not reflecting anybody else’s views but her own, but like I have said many times before, gay marriage will lead to the squelching of freedom of religion and freedom of speech.  This is grossly apparent in the response to Ms. Prejean’s answer from the Miss California spokesperson.

As co-director of the Miss California USA, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman,” said Lewis in a statement. “I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit. I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone and religious beliefs have no politics in the Miss California family.

It looks like Miss California is being discriminated against because her views are being seen as discriminatory (makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it).  Also, Perez admitted that she lost the Miss USA title because of her answer when he stated “Miss USA should represent everyone. Her answer alienated millions of gay and lesbian Americans, their families and their supporters.”  What if the first runner-up admitted in her answer that she was openly gay and supports same-sex marriage, and the reason given that she didn’t win was because “Miss USA should represent everyone.  Her answer allientated millions of Christians, those Americans who voted for traditional marriage, their families and their supporters.”   There would have been riots in the streets of Las Vegas with that answer by those who embody “tolerance” and perhaps a night in jail for a hate crime for the person who spoke it.

Did her response cost her the crown?  You bet it did.  Did she come out more of a winner by losing?  You better believe it.  Because of Carrie Prejean’s ability to stand-up for what she believes she will have more face time in the media and speaking engagements than the winner will.  By they way, who did win??????

Tradition isn’t right because it is long-standing.  Some traditions are long-standing because they are right.

Just a Redneck Clinging to my Guns

Just thought I would share my favorite sign from a Tea Party.  I’m just wondering if attending a tea party and liking this sign makes me a redneck, racist, rich, or all of the above since that’s how the people who care enough about their county to show up at these parties have been labeled.

Register’s Editorial Board Throws Needy Under The Bus

des-moines-register-pictureOne of the most important tasks delegated to the Iowa Senate is the task of vetting the Governor’s appointees to the various state agencies. They must carefully weigh the information available to them to determine whether that individual is fit to lead the designated state agency. In this deliberation many state senator declined to confirm the appointment of several of Governor Culver’s appointees this week.

In a surprising show of dimwitted sentiment the Des Moines Register’s editorial board today chastised Senate Republicans for voting against the confirmation of Gene Gessow to head the Iowa Department of Human Services. The editorial board asserts that, unless there is a clear indication that the appointee would be unfit to do accomplish the job the legislature should just roll over and accept the governor’s decision. And they claim that this is not the case with Gessow.

Evidently the Register does not feel that the problems they cite are enough for him to be ruled unfit for the position. In the very editorial they point out that he has been less than forthcoming about the problems associated with the Glenwood Resource Center. Another problem that we have with Gessow is how he had initially intended to handle the atrocity in Atalissa or better yet how he wasn’t going to handle it. At first Director Gessow was NOT going to investigate the mistreatment of the handicapped individuals housed there.

And yet according to the Register’s editorial board these mistakes are not enough to deem Gessow unfit to serve as director of the Department of Human Services. It causes me to wonder just what Gessow would have to do to be declared unfit for the position. Instead they lay the blame for Gessow’s failed confirmation on partisan politics on behalf of Senate Republicans. The way I see it, the Senate Republicans were the ones looking out for the less fortunate in our society. These men and women in the Senate deserve high praise for doing the right thing. Shame on the Register for behaving like the Democrats propaganda machine instead of caring for those that cannot care for themselves.

Janeane Garofalo’s take on ‘teabagging rednecks’

Dear Tea Party Participants~

Did you know that when you attended the Tea Party near you that you were there to hate the black man in the White House and that the size of your brain makes you an average white power activist?

And, if you watch Fox News did you know you must be an Urban older white guy or a girl friend of an urban older white guy?

According to Janeane Garofalo those of you who attended the tea parties do have dysfunctional brains. Good ole Keith Olbermann made sure that Ms. Garofalo got her opinions out for all of us to know!

Add Ms. Garofalo’s comments to those of Rachel Maddow and Anderson Cooper the word “teabagging” (except Garofalo says ‘teabagging rednecks’) and we have yet another person using a degrading slang term for the participants who took their time and made the effort to express their opinions with other Americans.

People like Garofalo may have the airwaves to spew their hateful comments and according to the latest cable news polls, some people actually watch CNN and MSNBC. Yet, Americans need to pay close attention to how the elites want to portray the hard working, taxpaying Americans who were exercising their right to assemble.

I will not question the brain of Janeane Garofalo but her mean comments need to be highlighted and the media outlets who promote such garbage need to be called out as well.

Sincerely~

Profiles in Courage:Defending Iowa Values

profiles-in-courageBecause of the nature of politics a large majority of the blog posts on the Iowa Defense Alliance tend to be highly critical of politicians and policies. Rare is the post that provides a positive light on our government or our politicians. Because of this we have decided to highlight some of the unsung heroes of the conservative movement. This may or may not be a weekly occurrence, but if any of our readers knows of an individual that has been instrumental in advancing the common sense of conservative values please drop us an email at iowabrigade@hotmail.com. Please include the individuals name, position, and the individuals actions supporting conservative ideals.

The first individual that we are going to highlight is one that we have been highly critical of in the past. That person is former Speaker of the House Christopher Rants. We openly opposed his reign as the leader of House Republicans. Now though we have to praise his attempts fight for the sanctity of marriage in Iowa. He has moved for a suspension of House rules in order for the Iowa House to vote on a marriage amendment this session. When that effort was defeated he dug in his heels and tried another tactic. This time he introduced an amendment to the hated House File 807 that would force the House to define what a married person is, namely a husband and wife, for tax purposes. In addition to this he introduced a bill that would have placed a moratorium on the purchase of new vehicles by state government. Instead of eliminating an unnecessary $11 million expenditure the state cut funding for women’s victims services and the Iowa Tuition Grant. Thank you Representative Rants for fighting for Iowa.

The second Iowan being recognized for their efforts to fight for Iowa values is State Senator Randy Feenstra. In the aftermath of the Iowa Supreme Courts unconstitutional ruling on homosexual marriage Senator Feenstra stood up on the floor of the Senate giving a rousing speech demanding that the state legislature allow the people to vote on the issue of homosexual marriage. We all know the ultimate outcome of his efforts. Senator Gronstal and his cohorts decided that the will of the citizen’s of Iowa do not matter. What matters is what he and his campaign contributors want. Senator Feenstra is to be commended for his efforts to force a vote on the marriage issue. He stood up when others were to fearful to do so.

As I stated above it is our intention that this is the first installment of many such positive posts. Just as we blast our legislators when they are in the wrong, we felt that it was time we recognized them when they are right. Hopefully this is just the first of many such posts. If there is a legislator that we have not recognized here please let us know so that we can showcase their efforts. Both of these hardworking legislators are to be commended for the efforts that they have made in pursuit of Iowa values. Please contact these men to let them know that you appreciate their hard work on behalf of the people of Iowa. They may be contacted at the following email addresses. You can contact Representative Rants at Christopher.Rants@legis.state.ia.us and Senator Feenstra at randy.feenstra@legis.state.ia.us.

We’ve Been Fighting the Wrong Battle

Disclaimer: This post is really directed to my fellow conservative Christians. So those of ya’ll that do not ascribe to this label, please don’t be hatin’ on me.

Two weeks ago as I was awaiting the gay marriage ruling from the Iowa Supreme Court, I came to the realization that the court would indeed rule in favor of legalizing gay marriage. You see I had just read two news articles that convicted and scared the crap out of me.  One talked about a new study that showed 21% of teen girls  and 18% of teen boys have “sexted”. Sexting basically means taking semi-nude or nude pictures of yourself and sending them via text to other people. Another article I read reported that in 2005 40% of all children born in the US were born out-of-wedlock.

My stomach dropped after I read these articles. I realized that we would never “win” the battle over gay marriage if we don’t  first “win” the battle over the sexual immorality that is rampant among heterosexuals in our country, including our children. Let’s face it, we have FAILED to show the joy and satisfaction that comes through knowing Christ and obeying His commands. We have FAILED to stop sexual sin even within our own churches. Do we really think God will change our politicians and society’s hearts towards the gay marriage issue if we don’t first address the fact that 1 in 5 teens today are sending nude pictures of themselves to their peers and the majority of teens have had sex by the time they graduate high school? Folks, we’ve been fighting the wrong battle. While we’ve been protesting gay marriage and lobbying our politicians to vote on the gay marriage issue, we’ve ignored those around us steeped in their own sexual sin. We’ve put more time and effort into our political efforts than being witnesses to those right in front of us.

Until we flood the cable news networks, protest in front of the Capitol and put our time and effort into addressing the issues of out-of-wedlock births and pre-marital sex, we will NEVER win the battle over gay marriage. I’m not saying that fighting gay marriage isn’t a good or worthy cause and I know there are several Christians who devote their time to addressing issues of sexual immorality. However, we cannot continue to ignore what has been right in front of our faces while we’ve been protesting, writing letters to the editor, and campaigning against gay marriage. So while we continue to fight the battle over gay marriage, lets be prayerfully asking God to forgive us and give us the same righteous anger for the sexual sin that has been occuring right in front of us.
