When the public elects an individual to serve as their representative in the government they have some expectations of those officials act. With few exceptions we expect our elected officials to serve us with honor, dignity, honesty, and wisely. There are times however when our elected officials fail to live up to those expectations. For the most part we forgive them their inadequacies; after all they are just human beings. However there comes a time when forgiveness is not enough.
Last Friday the United States House of Representatives narrowly passed a piece of legislation in which the body had little opportunity to review the bill. According to some of the accounts that I have read; at the time of the vote there was just one copy of the bill available for review. To further stifle review of the legislation House leadership managed to successfully limit debate on the bill in order to rush it through. These actions should have served as warning signs to the Representatives that something was wrong with this bill. If the legislation was of such a great value House leadership should have allowed adequate time to review and debate the measure. Instead they ran it through the House with a speed that would make Dale Earnhardt, Jr. jealous.
Seriously folks, the sheer speed with which this legislation was rammed through the House should have set warning bells. It should have indicated that someone was trying to hide something and that the bill could not withstand any extended scrutiny. Unfortunately three of Iowa’s Representatives failed to recognize this. At the end of the vote the bill was passed with a 219-212 difference with Braley, Loebsack, and Boswell voting for the bill.
Iowan’s deserve an explanation of why they supported the bill from these three and yet in the wake of this disastrous vote those three have remained strangely silent. They have not inundated the media with press releases. They have not released statements full of flowery descriptions of the bill. The failed to respond to repeated emails and phone calls to their offices. Essentially they have refused to inform us, the public of the reasoning behind their vote. So while we can forgive our elected officials their inadequacies, we cannot forgive the betrayal of our trust.

Thanks Boswell and Loebsack and Braley for selling us out. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to put data together to show global warming isn’t happening in the USA. I looked up all the record lows and record highs in the USA. Only one state since 2000 has set a new state record high temp South Dakota in July 2006. Colorado and Oregons state record high temps came before alot of our industry boom and before the automobiles. Oregon 1898 and Colorado in 1888. California’s record high temp came July 10th 1913. 24 of our 50 states record high temps are still from 1930s. This is nothing more than a scam to get richer. Like paying the bully to pass by him on the street. People are gonna get rich doing nothing. Carbon credits= big freaking scam you pay people like Al Gore to be able to have a barbecue or to fire up the light plant so we can have electricity. This will increase in price wait til we see the price of natural gas and electric bills come winter. And this bill will NOT only effect everyone it will make food very expensive for poor who will be barely getting by paying there lights and gas bills and for their mediciation which should increase in price to as it takes energy to produce them and its tied into this cost of this bill and will be passed on to the consumer. Hey look at the bright side when were down and out poor and cold we can lift our heads high that if we call Leonard Boswell im sure he would come right away for a photo opportunity.
I bet they didn’t even read the bill. Like the stimulus bill. If reading a bill before you vote on it is not part of your duties as congressman then something is wrong.And you should be removed from office for not doing what you swore to do. If your willing to vote yes on everything that comes up then we don’t even need to send these clowns to town.They could phone it in from Iowa. I can pretty much bet that if all the people in your districts knew their bills are going to go up and everything they will buy will increase in price. You surely would not be representing their feelings by the votes you cast.
We no longer have to worry about terrorists destroying our country. Our own government will do it for them.

This subject has been debated for 20 years. This bill was indeed “crafted” until the last minute, as are many, many bills. But it was not some stealth Patriot Act, rammed thru in a crisis.
Woodrow can’t see the forest for the trees—-oops, should say he can’t see the melting glaciers and polar ice caps because he focusses on all-time high temps in 50 states. So, why are the glaciers all melting, Woodrow?
And all you market-worshipping conservatives are now crying that the price of carbon will go up. Do you prefer outright government taxes on carbon or do you want a market-based solution? The whole cap and trade approach is a sop to market disciples like conservatives. And they still oppose doing anything.

The only ignorance apparent is that of the 219 Representatives that voted to pass a bill without adequate review. And yes this was rammed through at the last second. House leadership limited debate on the bill. By contrast the Patriot Act had much more debate and much more review than this bill did.
The whole cap and trade approach is a massive tax scheme without calling it a tax. The more appropriate way to go about this is provide companies an incentive to reduce their emissions. All this bill will do is push our industry to relocate to countries with less restrictive emissions standards. How is that going to help the environment. Sure cap and trade may reduce the amount of carbon produced by the US, but it will also increase the amount of carbon emitted by other countries.
Well i seem to have a much warmer view of global warming than you do Jerry . Jerry i would figure to see record high temps shattered in all our states all i see is avg summer time temps with few spikes here and there that doesnt break any long standing record.Well where was these global warming nuts when the glacier that was covering Iowa melted off and retreated. I guess having the coldest day i have ever seen in the 43 yrs ive lived in Iowa happen in global warming this past January 15th is strange to Jerry.

here’s all the records set on every day of the month of July our hottest month and we have not set a new high temp in July our hottest month in 54 years ! Thats right Jerry 54 YEARS.July 31,1955 Now i figure if we started breaking some of those temps and do it for 4-5 days in a row like the 5 days in July 1936 it averages out to 105.8 and the 4 days in a row in July 1934 avgs out to 107 Then you might convince me we have a problem even then those hot dry summers faded to brutal cold and snowy winters. Last winter parts of Alaska was -60 below 0 then the cold shifted southeast and it turned brutal cold here and mild replaced it in Alaska. For anyone to really claim they know what our weather is gonna do when we have only been a country for 233 yrs, in Iowa we only have temp data going back to the late 1800s . the nightly weatherman has difficulty predicting what its gonna do 12 hours from now. Let alone the 3 day forecast so if your buying into something to happen 40 yrs from now weather wise they took you hook line and sinker. But good ole AL Gore knows all sees all in the future all he sees in his future is more B.S. and dollar signs. All hes got to do is sell his snake oil charm to people like you. The earth far as we know weather has patterns and solar activity ties into it. The solar activity is the least theres been since 1912-13 Hmm 1912 plays a roll here January 1912 Iowa set its state record low temp of -47 below 0. On January 15th 2009 it got to -27 below 0 where i live i was so globally warm that day i got freezer burn not sun burnt. If AL Gore is so sure of himself why won’t he debate scientists on the subject ???? He wont why ? Mr Nobel prize academy award winner would think he would like to prove a point. Another thing im supposed to conserve energy while he wastes more in one year than i do in 10. My electric bill last month was $41.00 conserve that .If i got a carbon footprint his is more like a carbon crater like the size of the grand canyon compared to mine.
This is indeed myopic. You still haven’t acknowledged that the glaciers are all melting, as is the polar ice cap, the Greenland ice cap and the Antarctic ice cap.

There are many of us that remain unconvinced in regards to climate change/global warming. As for a few melting glaciers, not enough to prove that global warming is a result of human activity. After all it is common knowledge that large portions of the Northern Hemisphere were at one time covered by glaciers. Fortunately for us the ice retreated.
You still have a lot of work to do to prove to me that climate change is anything more than a natural occurrence.
You’re right, Al, that retreating glaciers don’t prove human causes. But Woodward was denying that temps are warming with his myopic argument about all-time highs in the 50 states.. So the glaciers and the other melting ice are a good response to him.
As for whether it’s caused by carbon dioxide, well I think that’s easy to believe gives this history:
We started burning lots of coal and oil about 1850. A scientist at the time said this will lead to more CO2 and that will warm the planet. Now we know CO2 rises every year and the ice is melting.
Is that all just a coincidence?

The Cap and Trade bill is a sham as regards both substance and methods.
I tend to agree with this. I don’t think it will work. But I hear it did work to cure acid rain a generation ago. Unfortunately this is a bigger problem and needs a bigger solution.
Darn right i’m denying the temps are warming.For one start showing me record smashing heat? It was hot last week but it broke no records. Ive seen it 108 once in my life in Iowa that was 26yrs ago during the Iowa State Fair now last year during the fair it was 53 or54 for the high on one of those days. If your trying to sell me the global warming show me some HOT TEMPS ! Not some ice melting when its probably summer time in the area they took the photo. this will be the 2nd 4th of July in a row in the low 70s when i was a kid it would be nothing for it to be 95-100 on the 4th. I know one thing making lights and gas bills so high we will have to sit in cold houses isn’t gonna keep the ice from melting. This is shaping up to be another below normal temp summer. I will say most likely its gonna be another very cold winter. Your acting like Al Gore show some ice melting and a sick polar bear and i’m supposed to change my ways when He does more polluting with his Gulf stream jet and wastes more electricity in one month and i use in 2 years. If the senate passes this you should be very proud Jerry and i sure don’t you to come to Iowa Defense whining about my energy bills doubling and food and everything i purchase has increased 30% or more Least i tried to warn people this was gonna happen. Woodrow: Why is the ice all melting, the glaciers mostly shrinking, the Ross Shelf breaking off, the Greenland ice cap disappearing and the Northwest Passage finally open every summer? Even if you say it’s all Al Gore’s personal fault, at least acknowledge that it is happening, please. But beware, the world has to be warming for it to be happening.
