Now there's a decent argument against ethanol. It is a pretty resource intensive product.

BTW, lots of R's also support it. Grassley, Latham, King, etc.

Yeah Albert not to mention it takes 3 gallons of water to make a gallon of ethanol and it takes 120,000 btus of natural gas energy to create 1 single gallon. 2009 the federal government is requireing 6.1 billion gallons of ethanol be made thats going to use 18.3 billion gallons of water not to mention taking 6.1 billion times 120,000 which i sat down and figured out on paper as my calculator didnt go to quad trillions. It would take approx. 6,222,000,000,000 of btus thats 6 quadtrillion to create 6.1 billion gallons. Soon our govt will demand almost 10 billion gallons be made by 2012 that will take over 3 billion bushel of corn about 1/4 of the U.S. total corn yield in a good year will be turned into this not only takes away corn that puts food in our daily lives its going to waste alot of water and natural gas. About all meats we eat will increase because their staple is corn hogs, cows, chickens, And every thing that has corn syrup or sweetner in it. This will create further world hunger as the cheap corn we used to send to those nations will be used here instead. So much for the carring democrats. Our saviors My Ass.

I am sorry I didn't clarify that information more. The book stated that corn demand for ethanol production in Iowa in 2006 was 2.7 billion bushels. Compare that with actual corn production in a good year at 2.2 million bushels. Based on these numbers it is inevitable that corn intensive foods will increase in price.

And once again Jerry, I have no problem with people living a life of luxury so long as they are not scamming the taxpayers to do so.

The big difference here is the woman in the video is willing to work for her luxuries. Boswell wants to scam and deceive the public in order to maintain his luxuries.

Iowa's corn production may be less than world ethanol production requires, but we aren't the only place growing corn. And the waste from ethanol still gets fed to livestock, so the figures are mis-leading.

Ethanol gained a place in the market because corn was dirt cheap for years on end. It's role as a fuel will now depend on oil prices going up. Rising oil prices will affect your food price even if no corn is used for anything but animal feed.

Why do you want cheap food anyway? Is it so you can continue your life of luxury?

Counting phone calls is not an accurate guage of public opinion. Major lobbying groups (industry) can round up a lot of calls because they spend lots of money to do it. Environmental groups can't equal that effort. Here's a link to public opinion:

I've never liked Boswell either, but you ought to concede his point about process. The votes don't tell you where things are headed nearly as accurately as the insiders can tell you. And he is an insider, to be sure. I think he's right: the bill is headed for a meaningless passage and the pollution will continue. Golman Sachs will get richer trading carbon. Ice will continue to melt.

It's ironic that you deride Boswell for a life of luxury, but feature in the video a woman who fears her standard of living will fall if we stop polluting the air with carbon dioxide. She likes her luxury, too.
