Cogressman Boswell, Did You Read the Bill?
August 24, 2009 7 Comments
I attended my first townhall yesterday and it happened to be Representative Leonard Boswell’s in Des Moines on the topic of the health care bill. I now realize it will be my last townhall. I have come to the conclusion that a Type A personality like myself is best left to sitting behind the computer as I cannot deal with people who have no sense of individual responsibility.
If you have ever seen the movie WALL-E you will recognize those lazy, unproductive people on the space ship who have everything spoon fed to them because earth is no longer safe to dwell on as who we will become when the government begins to take over every aspect of our lives and spoon feeds us. I believe that the most important part of the movie is when the earth becomes able to sustain life again but the computer on board of the space ship has orders to never to return the people back to earth but to keep them captive in space. I don’t think I need to explain the analogy to you.
I am going to share with you my favorite question for Boswell at the townhall. It was the last question and one he never answered. Welcome to the world of WALL-E.
FYI, the people on the space ship did escape. It was a revolt. Sound familiar?
This man has turned into a joke. The nation is laughing at the old fool representing Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District.
I bet damn few Congressmen or Senators ever read these lengthy bills. They spend all of their time TALKING to people–constituents, staff, lobbyists, press–especially the latter two.
All of them have staff who are way better at reading law than they are themselves. Do you think farmer Grassley or Boswell can read law? I don’t.
I think all of them are too cowardly to say, ” I don’t have time to read bills and I’m not really good at it. It takes a lawyer sitting in the law library to really read, study and evaluate a bill that is hundreds of pages long. If I started reading all the bills, I’d never have time for a town meeting. But I have good staff. They think like me. That’s why I hired them. They read. We talk. If you don’t trust me on this, you should vote for my opponent in the next election, but be sure he (she) will do the same thing–hire good staff to read and write the bills.”
Is anyone gutsy enough to say that?
I didnt feel real good at the closing of Boswells meeting he said he and Katy his aid will go over the bill. Boy that makes me feel good ole Katy is on the Job ! I bet the seniors there sure would like someone in great health in her 20s making their end of life decisions for them. This makes me sleep better at night NOT ! I dont want some aid who probably is getting some major money thrown her way by lobbyists to get what they want in the bill. Nor do i think that the decisions of someone so young who hasnt experienced alot as someone older making recommendations for my older years. I was young once and made some mistakes im lucky i lived. But from 20yrs old to now my views have changed alot. I know alot of young kids these days dont have the time of day for old people. I sure dont want a Katy or anyone else making decisions for me later in life.
That was a great question. I think the doctor who stood up and asked about litigation and tort reform was excellent as well. That is a major (obviously not the only thing) problem with whole process. They aren’t talking about what it actually take to lower health care costs.
I agree. They–both Ds and Rs–want to tinker around the edges. They don’t want to end the ability of any special group like doctors or insurance companies or drug companies to get RICH.
To really cut costs we need to see health services like we see garbage colletion and library services—as a government’s duty to all its people, not just to its retired soldiers. Forty countries see it that way and their doctors are not millionaires.
And here is my example of no sense of personal responsibility. What is it with liberals who think the government needs to intervene in everything and in order to help the needy you have to punish the rich and “even it all out.” The is America for pete’s sake. We have the choice to pursue whatevery occupation that we wish while making as much money as we can. In the liberal frame of mind people need to make money or have privileges based on pure existence. No hard work, no advanced schooling, no “moving up the ladder.” That is why people who are in unions are able to make six fugures while running a drill press for thirty years while other people have to move up in the company with additional responsibilities and/or have more schooling before they make this type of money.
The last I checked no one can legally be denied medical care: not the rich and not the poor. And I don’t know about you but I prefer to have my doctor perform my surgery rather than my garbage collector or my librarian.
