Why am I running?
By Dave Funk
It’s obvious to all of us that our nation’s economy is tanked; unemployment is rising; and respect for America and its values is collapsing throughout the world. The “hope” and “change” thing sold to the American people last fall is not really working out.
Democrats took control of Congress in 2006 and through a series of legislative missteps have increased the costs of doing business for all of us through higher taxes, excessive spending and massive federal intrusion into the private sector– including taking over banks and manufacturing companies.
In the last few weeks, the US House of Representatives has voted to impose massive energy taxes on our country based on the theory (some may even say fraud) that climate change is manmade. This tax hides behind the name “Cap and Trade.” Democrats in Congress and the executive branch are also on the cusp of taking over our entire health care system through the use of scare tactics that claim highly exaggerated figures about uninsured Americans. The reality is that nearly ninety percent of Americans have health insurance and well over three-quarters of us are happy with our current plans.
Last fall, in the President’s Message in the Safari Club International’s Iowa Chapter quarterly newsletter, I wrote the following regarding the then pending election;
“As a nation we are at a fork in the road, one turn, towards the left, is in a direction much like our European allies have gone, to more government intrusion, higher taxes, fewer individual rights, and unrelenting attacks on our traditions as hunters and to top it all off; stagnate economies. The other turn is toward the right, to freedom and liberty, lower taxes, [and] a vibrant economy…..”
What is a fifty year old, retired Iowa Army National Guard helicopter pilot, disabled airline captain and father of four doing running for Congress when I could stay home and play with my four year old twins, Amelia and Zachary?
It’s easy. I don’t want to face my son twenty years from now when he asks me, “Dad, in 2010, when there was still time to save this country, why didn’t you do something?”
It’s time that real Americans step up and save our country, before it’s too late.
That’s why I’m running for Congress in Iowa’s 3rd District, and to find out more about me, check out www.FunkforCongress.com
Mr. Funk,
You say Europeans have less freedom than we have. What freedoms are you talking about?
You say respect for America is collapsing. I think respect for Obama is high around the world. What collapse do you see?
You scorn climate legislation. What is your solution to the melting ice?
Do you personally benefit from the socialized medicine of the Veterans Administration?
Thanks for your attention.
Mr. Funk,
Two more questions:
How can I tell the “real Americans” from the other citizens? What are you saving the country from when you promise to save our country?
I can show you collaspe jerry how about usdebtclock.org we have spent almost 12 trillion on bailouts. this is money we didnt have. There is over 600 trillion in toxic liabilities.
Wow jerry you should have been around when all the ice melted off Iowa. Then you could have harped that tune then. Ice melts it happens we haven’t been here long enough to know all the facts. Like why the glaciers over the U.S. melted off when there was no so called green house gases created by man then? This planet has taken care of itself for millions of years before and probably after were long gone. Ice comes and it goes. Last thing i want is some jerk like Al Gore getting rich and man trying to play mother nature or trying to control it. The nut at the UN said if we dont act we will have fires, floods and droughts, well we already have those so whats going to change other than the money pouring out of our pockets to some smuck ahole making him super rich while we sit in our cold houses in a Iowa winter freezing because we cant afford to turn up the heat. I cant explain why the ice is melting off but its been a record cool summer following the coldest day this past January i ever seen in my town -27 below 0.
Cool in Iowa but record hot in Texas.
There weren’t 6 billion people on the earth when the ice melted off Iowa. People will die from similar climate change today. Don’t be so heartless.
We are already playing Mother Nature, Woodrow. THat’s the whole point. We have to clean up our act. Don’t be so self-righteous
Would like to hear more from Mr. Funk.
Me, too. I guess he’s not taking questions. The editors of this site are letting themselves be used as a political billboard by candidates who don’t believe in blogs.
Patience, Jerry, Patience. We will be hearing more from Mr. Funk. Actually, I have it on good authority that he likes this blog site! Just awesome! Someone who likes us and believes in the importance of blogs, as well.
The VA is not socialized medicine. It is a benefit that is earned by those who have served their country by offering their life in its defense.
Quite different from an entitlement which is not earned.
That’s right Tom, It is earned by those of us that have served and given to our country. Not like a bunch of welfare leaches that just take because they can.
