Health Care Rally a Huge Slap in the Face!

On Saturday Aug 29, the Obamacare bus came to the Iowa Capitol and many were there to express their opinions. There were those there in support of the health care bill being peddled by our President, while many were there in opposition. The event was deceptively patriotic, and as you can see from the video, several attempts were made to confuse those that were there in dissent. Many attempts were made to confuse those that have actually read the bill and when questions were asked of Iowa’s Attorney General, Tom Miller, those questions were ignored. A luxury bus, paid for by you, the taxpayer, pulled in adjacent to a 12 foot display of old glory. In the moments leading up to the event several organizers and staffers came to where we were standing ordering us to leave, check our signs, move out of the way for the media that never came, and eventually sent in a state trooper. Several times we were asked to move so that the luxury bus and satellite vehicles could make their way through.  Even the Attorney General speaking in favor of the proposed health care bill could not draw up any media attention to this event. In short, the tax payer funded event was small, poorly staged, unorganized, and it was a personal insult to know that my tax dollars went to promote any government program in this manner.

Thank you for this update. Thank you for standing your ground and not caving in to pressure and lies from the ObamaHell Care Group. You have my respect and admiration. It is more than disgusting to know that bus and the cost to keep it rolling is paid with our money.

  2. Republican Rebel says:

Leave to the goon squad to try shutting down dissent. I am glad that they relented and allowed you to utilize your 1st amendment rights.

  3. neighhay says:

How delightful: Sounds like “All show, no go”—and somewhat strong arm tactics at the taxpayers’ expense.

  4. conservative dad says:

Wow. What country are we in? A free one? Not so much.

Talk about “astroturf,” those factory made signs from Obamaland that are being handed out to people are as fake as it gets. Nice try at an event anyway. Maybe they should have gotten some advice trom the Tea Party organizers on how to have a successful rally.

I’m telling you, George Orwell should have wrote “2009″ instead of “1984.” We needed fifteen more years in order for the government to get big enough to control us.

  5. Todd says:

So….let me get this straight.. on the GROUNDS of the State Capitol of IOWA…its not permitted to have signs that protest our government? People can NOT express their 1st Amendment rights at a PUBLIC facility?

And what’s more shameful is to see an Iowa State Trooper acting in the manner that he did.

Apparently, the 1st Amendment isn’t being taught anymore at the Iowa State Law Enforcement Academy.

    What disgusting behavior….

  6. Woodrow says:

Hmm what the heck happened to our First Amendment rights Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; OR THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO ASSEMBLE PEACEFULLY,and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Why do i feel we are becoming more and more a communist country? We dont have a right to speak out and make our own signs ?

  7. neighhay says:

Now after watching the video I am even more appalled.
The Obamacare folks were willing to give up their signs so it would be FAIR to tell the “protesters” they couldn’t have any? Doesn’t sound within the law to me, sounds more like rules established for kindergarteners.

  8. Jerry says:

It’s not clear to me what is happening in that video and I was not in DSM to see it in person, BUT I’m inclined to react the same way that Woodrow and Todd are reading it. If you two have a clear idea of what happened at the rally, you ought to run it by the ACLU of Iowa and see what they say.
