Jim Tyler: A Private Citizen and Great Iowan
Weeks go by and little inspires me from my weekly read of the Sunday Des Moines Register. My husband loves the comic section so all is not lost.
It was with great delight that I found in the September 13 edition on Page 9AA of the Nation & World Section An Open Letter To Tom Harkin. Jim Tyler, “Private Citizen” of Atlantic, Iowa, had written a blunt letter, complete with four photos of the beloved liberal of the Democrat party. (Gosh, Harkin looks old!)
You may read the Open Letter plus more from Jim Tyler at The Iowa Republican.
While I liked the entire letter a favorite part written to Harkin is this:
Today, you and your friends will feast on steak at the Annual Harkin Steak Fry.
Unfortunately, while you enjoy your meal, a lot of Iowans won’t be able to afford steak at their dinner table because of your actions and an ever expanding federal government.
Amen, Jim Tyler, Amen!!!
Also, listed in small print but very important is the fact that Harkin is in the “50 Richest Members of Congress”, ranked at “#27”. No wonder Harkin can afford to put on the Steak Fry plus sell tickets for his precious fund raising event!
So, what to do with this full page Open Letter to Tom Harkin. A good Iowan would want to recycle, I suppose. A reader at the Iowa Republican said he had taken a black marker to the page, had written in large letters “I AGREE!” and had sent the letter directly to Tom Harkin. If you wish to recycle the Open Letter in such a manner, here is Harkin’s address:
Tom Harkin
United States Senate
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510-1502
I give a rose and a thumbs up to both Jim Tyler and the person with the idea to mail Harkin the Open Letter.
Iowa needs more Jim Tyler’s who have worked to help Iowa prosper. I appreciate Tyler’s willingness to speak out about “bailout after bailout” and a “government that has grown out of touch”.
Iowa Democrats can have their steak. Iowans who see Tom Harkin for the big spender that he is now have a new hero: Jim Tyler.
Like Jim Tyler, I am fed up but will never give up.
Now, off to recycle my Open Letter!

Since I have for many years boycotted subscribing to or purchasing copies of the Des Moines Register, I clicked to the Jim Tyler open letter and advertisement directed to Senator Tom Harkin that was reproduced on The Iowa Republican. I agree essentially with the letter as far as it goes. Besides being a big government spending liberal, the things that have bothered me even more in the long career of Tom Harkin has been his extreme social/cultural radicalism and his long record of appeasement to Communists and Leftist in other nations, going way back to the Vietnam War when he essentially took the side of the Communist North Vietnam and later when he took the side of the communist revolutionaries in Central America.

Oh yes, I read it also! His full page letter on Sunday was “right on” and so well written. I don’t know how much it would cost but I admire his efforts and kept it also. It is well past time for Harkin to go!
