Iowa Defense Alliance is Proud to Endorse Tom Shaw

tom-shaw-1Tom Shaw is running for Iowa House of Representatives District 8 and he will be the first candidate who IDA has endorsed who is not a member of the GOP.  Right now there is not a Republican in this statehouse race and frankly, we don’t care if one enters because Tom will still have our endorsement.  If we haven’t smacked you in the face by it by now let me be perfectly clear when I say IDA supports principle over party and Tom Shaw is a living, breathing example of this:

I have decided to cut ties with the Republican Party due to the Party’s apparent desire to move to a more liberal agenda in order to “win elections.” I feel that the Republican Party is willing to abandon their conservative positions concerning social issues in order to expand the party. I no longer desire to be associated with a party that openly supports candidates who ignore the party platform. A platform is developed through grassroots efforts starting at the county level, and therefore, is a reflection of the voices of “We the People.” Moderating positions in order to win elections is akin to ignoring the conservative values that Iowans hold dear.

As an Independent, I will not be beholding to any party and as a fellow rural Iowan, will be free to defend the conservative values that I know you cherish.

If elected Tom pledges to defend:  the 2nd Amendment, Iowa’s sovereignty from the Federal Government, “English Only” laws, “Right to Work” law, Iowans from excessive and unjustified taxation, traditional marriage with a Constitutional Amendment, the unborn, and the authority of local school boards from unwanted state intervention.

Tom Shaw is retired from the U.S. Navy and is currently the Laurens Chief of Police.  He is also a former Pocahontas Republican Party Co-Chair and his candidacy has received their endorsement.  In addition to this endorsement and Iowa Defense Alliance’s, Tom has also received the support of current GOP gubernatorial front-runner Bob Vander Plaats.

I could care a less that if and when Tom wins it will not be a seat gained for the Republicans in the statehouse.  What is important is that we would be gaining a seat with someone who will represent the conservative values of Iowans.  Values that the GOP seems to forget and then wonder why they are losing.

No more holding your nose and voting for a RINO District 8.  Congratulations on an exceptional candidate.
