I was going to leave a comment but then I read this one by NFB. Ditto for me.

BVP is the one who came off like a Governor Saturday night and Branstad needs to save his dignity and get out of the race before he destroys everything he has done.

Rants is the sharpest knife in the drawer, hands down. Fong is not far behind, and that's only due to lesser experience. Vander Plaats actually sounded more like a governor candidate than I've ever heard, rather than a preacher at a hot Saturday night revival. Considering the rumors he's no longer the darling of the Theocrat Wing of the GOP, this doesn't surprise me.

I loved Jerry Behn, he won't win but he was dead on and his mocking delivery against the Democrats was right up my alley. To quote a friend of mine, Branstad sounded like a 'tired old man.' Will cut him slack that this is one of his first speeches, but he needs to improve. Roberts was very eloquent and really came on at the end.

Enjoyed reading your post. I have a different take on the event from Saturday night. Branstad was a total flop. For the most part I thought he flunked speech class and was only politely received by the audience. In fact, I believe that his appearance was sad. Sad for him to be propped up by inner circle of supporters who either live in the past or want some added power by connecting themselves with a very former Governor.

Steve King and Tom Latham gave excellent greetings via video. They are fighting the fight for us. And then there was Grassley. He had fire in his voice and he won back my vote and admiration. It was obvious that he had listened to 'we the people'.

As far at the candidates for Governor I left the event feeling like I had heard the best ever speech from Vander Plaats. He spoke with passion and conviction. I thought he had a lot of support in the audience.

The other candidates were interesting to hear. All had strong points and good ideas for Iowa. It was worthy of my time to attend. The people watching was informative, as well.

I do agree with you, Abregar, we do need more events like this in the future.

Did Fong say what he would do after repealing the income tax? Is he ending state aid to education or is he replacing the income tax with some new tax?
