My Open Letter to Jonathan Narcisse

Dear Jonathan:

I would have made this reply to the email you sent me but since everybody was hidden on that email except for the main recipient, Bob Vander Plaats, I will use this method instead because “reply all” was not an option.

I received your Open Letter to Bob Vander Plaats email with who know how many others as I gathered with family the night before Thanksgiving.  When your name came up to the sender and I saw Bob Vander Plaats as the recipient I thought I received it by mistake and perhaps I did, although I doubt it.

First of all, I have never given you my email address in any way, shape, or form.  I didn’t sign up on your website you are plugging nor have I signed up on anything that had to do with you.  There is no reason you should be sending me a direct email.  The only way I can think of that you got my address is from another email list.  I can only think of one time when both of our names was on the same email recipient list and I really hope this is not where you got it from.

Also, the subject line of the email was Open Letter to Bob Vander Plaats:  I Decline!  After reading your open letter I see that the “I decline” part came at the end when you told Bob that you would not be involved in his campaign or administration in any way.  While you have every right to express your doubts about Bob, your problems you have with his stances, and request a debate from him, do you really think this part added to your argument?  If you have ever gotten an email where someone replied something to the sender and then hit “reply all” and it had nothing to do with anyone else, you will know what I mean.  I don’t know how much more eloquently to put it except for “grow up.”

As I stated before, I have not problem with your right to express concerns but once again, I have no idea why I was on your email list.  I emailed you back requesting that you tell me but have heard no response.  I heard from another source that you went bat crazy in that meeting with Terry Branstad that was held awhile back.  I defended you.  I am now wondering if I was wrong to do that.  It seems in a mind of great ideas you are lacking the judgement on how to proceed.

P.S. Kent Sorenson DOES have my email address and I did not get attached on his open letter to Senator Grassley.  Take some pointers.

  1. It seems that in politics especially…people are most ignorant about anti-spam or even “general email protocol”. I don’t recall checking a “I’m willing to be marketed to” box when I have email exchanges with people. Nor do I recall signing a waiver that exchanges of business cards mean that I want someone’s newsletter. My comments aren’t direct at JN necessarily but the state of political email hackery in general. Campaigns just recycle lists from cycle to cycle when that behavior would be considered serious spam offense elsewhere. Back to my open letter to myself.

  2. That was one mean and ugly letter that Narcisse must have written with a wicked pen. I won’t be listening to anything that man says on the radio, at a debate, anywhere. I can now see why the school board must have had one big celebration when he was off the board.

    What a grumpy, mean man.

  3. Iowans Rock:

For ten years Bob Vander Plaats has been running for Governor. I have nothing personal against him but he doesn’t have a plan.

What he does have, if you go to his website, are ideas that, if examined closely will either require high taxes to pay for them or significant debt.

This is not the vision of the “conservative champion” he has identified himself as.

Now I am willing to meet with Bob anywhere, anytime to back up what I said. Period.

Moreover, his supporters don’t get a free pass. In the past, to many of us, including myself, have supported candidates we liked without vetting them. We cannot continue to do this.

Bob is the G.O.P. frontrunner. He owes Iowans a plan. In the absence of one criticism is valid. There was nothing untrue in the email. There was nothing personal in the email.

Finally, regarding your email address, from time to time I get addresses sent to me. I am asked to send information to persons. I get email addresses from our website of those that have examined it so we can keep them informed.

If you send me your address I will delete it from our database. It’s that simple. But I do not apologize for calling out a man who would be the leader of our state but has no plan.

My number is 515-770-1218. I am more than willing to engage in any constructive dialogue.

  4. To Iowans Rock,

Thanks for pointing out the editorial bias at Iowa Republican. I have sent several press releases — not a mention!

    • No problem. The whole situation is a load of crap. They are giving Narcisse not one but two spots on the front page, not to mention highlighting him ripping on a GOP gubernatorial candidate. If they want to give Narcisse this much press not even caring what party he belongs to or if he will be an Independent or whatever, then you deserve the same, if not more, face time on a Republican site.

  5. An update: I had a Facebook chat with Craig Robinson. He will notify me when he starts covering the House races and will consider content that I submit. As with other news outlets, I don’t mind what their editorial policy is as long as its applied evenly.
    Tom

  6. An open Letter to “{PHAmacieial Guy23″

I don’t know where you got my email and I don’t want any of your Viagra.

My point is, it is email, if you don’t want it, don’t read it. Jon did not show up at your front door, force himself in and read you an open letter for BVP. Maybe we all have a little growing up to do.
