Kent Sorenson: You Can’t, and Won’t, Keep a Good Man Down

Kent Sorenson realized even before Republicans got annihilated in 2008 that you cannot give lip service to voters and then do nothing or do the opposite of what was promised once elected.  One could probably say that Kent was Tea Party before Tea Party was cool.

In 2008 he caught his opponent, an entrenched Democrat incumbent in the Iowa House, off-guard and defeated him by just a handful of votes by utilizing a strong grassroots network and honest hard work with a message that spoke to the voters in his district.  A message of reducing the size of government and cutting spending while protecting our 2nd Amendment rights and fighting for the unborn and one man and one woman marriage, and then promising to go to the statehouse and deliver on his word.  Kent Sorenson has been a remarkable state representative in the past two legislative sessions.

Two years later he has decided to give up his seat in the Iowa House and take on Staci Appel for the Iowa Senate seat in district 37.  Appel is the most liberal member of  the State Senate and has made it very clear that Kent is not going to take her by surprise in this race.  In fact the amount of money she, along with her colleague Mike Gronstal, both have spent in order to tear Kent Sorenson down in this election is staggering.  It seems that instead of focusing on her own pathetic liberal record, she has instead resorted to unprecedented attacks on Kent and his family.  Where does Appel get the money to run this type of campaign?  It looks like there is some interest in her campaign from out-of-state contributors.

This race has been labeled many things.  It has been called the “ground zero” for the fight for traditional marriage as Staci Appel is married to one of the Iowa Supreme Court justices who was a part of the unanimous ruling that declared Iowa a same-sex “marriage” state, it has been categorized as a good old fashion battle of ideologies as Appel defends and holds the banner high for liberalism and Sorenson’s unwavering conservatism drives his every political move.  There is no mushy middle in this one that we see in so many races both in Iowa and nationally.  There is also the dynamic of this race that seems to be front and center in almost every high-profile race across the nation.  A political class elitist like Appel vs. hometown hero Sorenson born out the need to take our state and country back.

It really doesnt’ matter how the Iowa Senate district 37 race is classified.  What really matters is the outcome.  With Kent Sorenson’s victory on November 2nd the people of Iowa who want to rid Iowa of the liberal agenda that does not represent them will be the winners.

Hometown hero, Kent- his good character shines out for those of us willing to pay attention to what he stands for rather than allowing the big, mean democrat machine to impact our vote.

  2. Kent is the kind of guy that never promises more than he can deliver — and he always delivers more than he promises. Just look at his promises made that he kept as a Representative and count on him to deliver as a Senator. I am proud to know Kent and consider him a statesman vis a vis run-of-the-mill politician. Love the comment the Kent was Tea Party before Tea Party was cool. It is so fitting!

  3. Pied Piper says:

What a nice looking family – really enjoyed seeing the picture. I have faith that Iowa voters won’t fall for the vicious tactics of the democrats and those that financially support the attempt to smear a good man AND his family!

  4. Raymond V Banner says:

Do not live in his district but hope he wins.

  5. PaulR says:

Just heard the most disgusting radio ad on a local station about Kent. I literally turned off the radio. I hope other voters will tune out the vicious cycle of negative ads. The next week will be an endurance contest for sure.

I have begun a personal campaign to email every company and organization that has contributed to Midwest Enterprise Group and ask them why they are donating money to a PAC that is responsible for vicious campaign ads that attack my state senator and his family. I am asking them to tell me if they approve of their donations being used in such an unethical manner. If I have done any business with a company, I am letting them know that they will not be receiving any more of my business unless they explain their actions to me and pledge not to give this PAC one more dime.

I just received a phone call on my work phone from your campaign that trashed Staci Appel and left a bogus phone number to call back on. I don’t appreciate these calls at work and I really don’t appreciate you trash Staci Appel. She has my vote!

    • Iowans Rock says:

You most likely gave that number on your voter registration. The intelligent thing to do is not write that number down when asked for a phone number. Problem solved!

    • Al Bregar says:

There is only one candidate trashing the other in this race and that is Staci Appel.

  8. conservative dad says:

Looks like Appel will get one vote.

  9. Steve says:

I’m sorry but I just don’t think the
‘whole story’ is given by Sorenson’s latest ad … I vote Appel!

    • Al Bregar says:

      Really Steve.

Let me ask you this question. If Staci Appel was such an honest and open State Senator then why isn’t she running on her accomplishments and Senate record?

  10. Connie says:

Steve – the whole story is that the Democrats go for the jugular while continuing to stab candidates in the back. I do not want someone like Staci Appel representing me and casting votes on important issues. She is mean, vicious, and lacks character as evidenced by her attacks on Sorenson!

  11. conservative dad says:

Appel is up to 2 votes!
