Censorship in Denver

Freedom of speech and freedom of the press seem to be dead in Denver, Colorado these days. During the Democratic National Convention protestors and demonstrators are confined to a hard to find cage. Some of these protestors have made remarks that they feel like political prisoners in Denver. This “Freedom Cage” is even surrounded by armed police officers making it appear more like a prisoner of war camp than a peaceful demonstration. Just check out some of the video footage from the area to see what I am talking about.

And then there is the story that just came out today where an ABC reporter (Asa Eslocker) was arrested for filming the entrance to a hotel in Denver where Democratic lawmakers were meeting with donors and lobbyists. This video is slightly disturbing. In it the police officer shoves the reporter into oncoming traffic after telling the reporter to leave. This forced the reporter to the other side of the street where he resumed the filming. Two hours later more police show up to place Eslocker under arrest based on a complaint filed by the hotel. The reporter attempts to ask questions, but the officer is having none of that. At one point you can hear another officer telling the cameraman to turn the camera off, but the brave cameraman keeps the video rolling getting it all on tape. You can view this video at the following link.

With all this censorship and strong arm tactics going on during the Democratic National Convention is definitely cause for concern. Here we have a blatant attack on our country’s basic principles of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. It most certainly leaves me wondering what is going to happen next. Perhaps Joseph Stalin will grace the Democratic stage.

Where Have All The Critics Gone?

Where have all the critics gone? When the United States invaded Iraq to enforce the countless UN resolutions against Saddam Hussein’s despotic regime the critics came out of the woodwork. They denounced US intentions to enforce those resolutions. They railed against Bush over his comments on Iran. They attacked him over his policy with North Korea.

So just where are these critics now that a

resurgent Russia has not only invaded a sovereign country, but also threatened nuclear war with Poland. Do I need to remind people that Poland is a member of NATO and an ally of the US?

Where are these critics when Russia agrees to a cease fire, only to ignore the agreement? Huh where are these people?

I will tell you where these people are. They are sitting at home watching the news on tv while cheering the Russians on. Democratic politicians like Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Tom Harkin do not give a rip about the US. The only thing that they care about is furthering their own political careers and lining their pockets with as much green as they can. These are the members of the “Blame America First” club. They are the ones that blame America for all the ills of the world. You see in their mind America is to blame for Russia’s invasion of Georgia. America is to blame for the threats that Russia launched against Poland. In their minds and in their hearts America is evil.

This lack of a response from the loons that occupy the hateful left has had me disturbed since Russia’s occupation of Georgia began. I thought, surely these people that so opposed our invasion of Iraq would speak out against Russia’s aggression. As the days went on I thought that the next day would bring about a chorus of denunciations of Russia’s brutality. But as each day passed without such a comment I began to realize that it was just wishful thinking on my part. It was through this that the left once again demonstrated that they really do hate America.

A New Cold War?

That rattle that we have been hearing lately is coming from a resurgent Russia. In recent days they have invaded a sovereign nation and have threatened another nation with a nuclear attack. The most recent threats come on the heels of Russia’s incursion into the nation of Georgia. This invasion was unprovoked. Now the Russian bear is threatening the nation of Poland with a nuclear attack because they signed an agreement with the US to install a missile defense system.

Propelled by fears of a renewed aggression from Russia, Polish officials inked a deal with the United States to place a missile defense shield in Poland. After learning of the deal Russia retaliated with a verbal tirade. The Russians were even so bold as to claim that Poland was placing itself at risk of a nuclear attack by allowing the shield to be placed in Poland. Russian president Medvedev made the statement that “The placement of new anti-missile forces in Europe has the Russian federation as its aim.

It seems to me that the Russians are overreacting to this plan. After all it is not an offensive weapons system, it is DEFENSIVE in nature. That means that the only way for Russia to be affected is if it attacked Poland. Poland’s acceptance of this missile shield is completely understandable. If I were in Poland I would be worried due to Russia’s recent incursion into Russia and complete lack of regard for the cease fire that they agreed to.

Essentially Russia’s fear of this DEFENSIVE system indicates that they also had plans to attack Poland in the near future. However the agreement that Poland now has with the United States effectively changed the Russian’s plans.

The situation in Europe will definitely bear watching as this could be the beginning of a new Cold War.

Larry Disney for the Iowa House

Are you tired of the big spending Iowa Legislature? I know that I sure am. That is why I am supporting Larry Disney for Iowa House District 67.

Right now District 67 is represented by Democrat Kevin “The Bully” McCarthy. McCarthy is one of those traditional Democratic politicians. He will tell his constituents one thing to get elected and once in office do something completely different. For example McCarthy at one time stated that marriage should be between one man and one woman. Then once he was in office he helped to kill an amendment to the state Constitution that would define it that way. Effectively Representative McCarthy stated that the citizens of Iowa don’t deserve to vote on the issue.

Another issue where McCarthy said one thing only to do something altogether different was on the issue of gun rights. As one of our members posted, right now when a person applies for a concealed carry permit the county sheriff must approve it. However currently there is no uniform protocol used to do this. It is left solely to the discretion of the sheriff. And quite frequently it is not applied fairly across the board. McCarthy stated that he would support a measure that would correct this discrepancy. However after he was elected he led the effort to kill the law that would standardize the process.

These are just some of the issues that McCarthy lied about. Do we want a politician that will say whatever it takes to get elected or do we want a politician that will look you straight in the eye and tell you the truth. Personally I value the truth. And that is why I support Larry Disney for House District 67.

Currently the State of Iowa is what is known as a retreat state. In a retreat state a resident is required to run away if a criminal breaks into your home or business. I don’t know about you, but I think that this is total hogwash. Larry emphatically states that he will introduce legislation that will change this so that a homeowner can defend his or her property from these brazen criminals. Larry will also introduce legislation that will standardize the policies for issuing conceal and carry permits across all 99 counties. Now longer would a gun owner be at the mercy of a sheriff’s unethical whim.

Larry will also introduce legislation that will allow the citizen’s of Iowa to vote on a constitutional amendment defining marriage as being between one man and one woman. He believes that this is an issue that is best left to the citizen’s of the state to decide not some politicians sitting in Des Moines.

Larry Disney is a candidate that prizes the liberties and freedoms provided by our country and our state. He fervently believes that Iowa’s motto is how Iowa should govern, “Our Liberties we cherish our rights we will maintain.” Unfortunately there are too many politicians in our state capital that have forgotten this and are continuously attempting to take some of that away. Let’s stop this erosion of our rights. Let’s vote for Larry Disney for House District 67.

The Silence is Deafening

One of the chief concerns on many Iowans minds this year is the price of fuel. In the two years since the Democrats took over Congress gas prices have soared to record heights. Now when a temporary solution is offered the Democrats do what they feel that they need to do. Go on vacation. You read that right. The Democrats voted to end the session without tackling a bill that would have helped lower the price of gas and at the same time promote alternative energy sources. Approximately 16 Republicans decided that they weren’t going on vacation; instead they are attempting to bring attention to the hypocrisy that has been demonstrated by Nancy Pelosi and her trained lapdogs in the House of RepresentativesState Senator David Hartsuch has been very outspoken on this issue as he has made the politically created energy crisis a focus of his Congressional campaign.

“Democrats, including my opponent recently voted against several measures intended to improve production of energy by expanding drilling, allowing construction of new refineries, and promoting alternative aviation fuel purchases by the Department of Defense. All of this was voted down by the Democrat majority.” David Hartsuch comments via personal correspondence.

Senator Hartsuch points out that Braley voted against measures that would increase the amount of oil available here in the US as well as reduce our dependence upon foreign imports. Why would someone that claims to be on the side of the citizens of the US? We just don’t know. Braley has been completely silent on the issue. I can find no articles, interviews, or press releases related to this issue. The only reasonable assumption that one can come to when presented with the evidence; Bruce Braley is Nancy Pelosi’s lapdog.

I am not going to take it easy on Braley here. It is rather obvious that when his master(Pelosi) speaks he jumps. She opposes any expansion of oil drilling so naturally does Braley. You might be wondering what Braley would get in return for this type of blind obedience? In an earlier post it was pointed out that Braley ranked seventh among freshman Congressman in the amount of earmarks. Could it possibly be that these earmarks are a sort of payment for kowtowing to Nancy Pelosi’s extreme anti-American policies? It definitely appears that Braley cannot think for himself, but rather does everything that the DNC tells him to do.

In November the voters of District 1 have the opportunity to elect a Congressman that will represent them honestly and honorably in Congress. That person is David Hartsuch. I encourage the voters of District 1 to send lapdog Braley to the pound and elect a candidate that doesn’t need someone else to tell him what to think or do. I encourage you to elect David Hartsuch to represent Iowa’s 1st Congressional District in Washington D.C.

Don’t Abandon Oil Yet

I read a letter in the Des Moines Register this morning written by Des Moines resident. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080804/OPINION04/80804009&s=d&page=1#pluckcomments This letter was written in response to an editorial written by the Register’s David Yepsen. This individual’s letter seems to be a call to abandon our search for oil to instead concentrate on our search for alternative energy sources. I for one have no problem with researching alternative energy sources, but I am also of the belief that we cannot disregard the energy sources that we have today. I feel that we should continue to search for and tap all oil reserves to maintain affordable energy. At the same time we should be researching alternative energy sources. This will allow us to efficiently develop and deploy alternative sources of fuel.

Let us look at some of the facts here. We already have a national infrastructure in place to distribute petroleum based fuel. It will take quite some time to develop the infrastructure for an alternative fuel source to replace this infrastructure. People that believe that we should abandon all petroleum based fuels are rather shortsighted. There are thousands of families and individuals that can not afford to replace all appliances and vehicles with the new technology.

There is no magic bullet to solve this problem. It is going to take time and yes it is going to be painful. What we have to do now is to make it as painless as possible for the citizens of this country. To do so we need to expand domestic exploration for oil. We need to extract and refine that oil to help keep energy costs down. And we need to research into alternative energy sources. Essentially we need a two pronged effort to eliminate our dependence on oil. Unfortunately the politicians in Congress seem unable to compromise. I hope that some politician in Washington reads this post because the partisanship that takes place has got to stop. The survival of our way of life is at stake here. Failure is not an option.

Catching Wild Pigs

The following is an analogy that I received in an email. I find that this is a very accurate depiction of what is happening in the United States today. I found it so strikingly similar that I had to share it with you.

Catching Wild Pigs

A chemistry professor in a large collegeĀ had some
exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in
the lab the Professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who
kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The
student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been
shot while fighting communists in his native country who were
trying to overthrow his country’s government and install a new
communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and
asked a strange question. He asked, ‘Do you know how to catch
wild pigs?’

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch
line. The young man said this was no joke. ‘You catch wild pigs
by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the
ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the
free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a
fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming.
When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn
again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to
that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all
four sides of the fence up with a gate in The last side. The
pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the
gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.
Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run
around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon
they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it
that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for
themselves, so they accept their captivity.
The young man then told the professor that is exactly what
he sees happening to America . The government keeps pushing us
toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the
form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for
unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments
not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc.. While we
continually lose our freedoms — just a little at a time.
One should always remember: There is no such thing as a free
lunch! Also, a politician will never provide a service for you
cheaper than you can do it yourself.
Also, if you see that all of this wonderful government
‘help’ is a problem confronting the future of democracy in
America , you might want to send this on to your friends. If you
think the free ride is essential to your way of life then you
will probably delete this email, but God help you when the gate
slams shut!
In this ‘very important’ election year, listen closely to
what the candidates are promising you !!
Just maybe you will be able to tell who is about to slam
the gate on America
‘A government big enough to give you everything you want, is
big enough to take away everything you have.’ – Thomas Jefferson

A Real American Hero

Navy Tridents

Navy Tridents

It will come as no surprise to many that the Mainstream media has let the American public down for years. They use biased and sometimes incorrect stories and facts in an attempt to steer the public’s perception of issues and events. I became enraged when I received an email that detailed the efforts of a soldier serving his time in the sandbox known as Iraq.

Navy Petty Officer Mike Monssor was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic efforts to save his fellow Navy Seals during an operation in Iraq. This honor was bestowed on Monsoor posthumously. You see Monsoor gave his life to save his fellow Navy Seals by jumping on a grenade. Monsoor paid the ultimate price to save his brothers in arms. This ladies and gentleman is a true American Hero.

At his funeral Navy Seals lined the path that the pallbearers had to take. It was a double line that the pallbearers walked between. As Monsoor’s coffin passed each Seal, the soldier slapped his trident down on the coffin, embedding the pin in wooden lid of the coffin. These soldiers were there to pay their respects for one of their own that had given up his life so that others may live.

The thing that bothers me most with this story is that I have googled Monsoor’s name and I received not one hit from a major media outlet covering this story. This is truly a story of self-sacrifice for the greater good. It is a story of selflessness. It is a story of courage. And it is a story of brotherhood. That the Mainstream media can ignore such a selfless act of heroism is truly appalling. Because of that I have felt compelled to share this story with you in the hopes that it may inspire another to act without selfish greed but with selfless courage. In closing I would like to extend my sincerest sympathy to the family of Mike Monsoor. There are no words that can heal the grief you must be feeling. Rest assured that his sacrifice has not gone unnoticed. May this GREAT AMERICAN HERO rest in peace.

We Want All The Issues

I was browsing through my inbox this morning when I stumbled across a letter to the editor of the Des Moines Register. It was written by former Lt. Governor Joy Corning. The title of the letter; “Republicans should rally around real GOP issues” is a tad bit misleading. I thought to myself, okay, finally a prominent Republican calling for the troops to rally behind their leadership. Instead what I found was an attack on social conservatives and the convictions that they hold. The bottom line of this letter is that social conservatives should just shut up, and do what they are told. Social conservatives are supposed to be there to gather votes, money, and volunteer for campaigns, beyond that we are just an annoyance.

As I dig into the article I am surprised even though I know that I should not be. The crux of the letter that Ms. Corning wrote is bad social conservatives, good everyone else. It seems to me that she is placing the blame for the party’s ills on the social conservatives for wanting the convictions and issues that they hold dear to them advanced. She attempts to claim that the more moderate and centrist views (aka fiscal conservatives) are the traditional Republican ideals. She wonders how fiscal conservatives be expected to endorse a party platform that they do not endorse. I have news for you Ms. Corning, it is two way street. Social conservatives have for years supported fiscal conservatives issues only to see those that they hold dear tossed aside like a piece of trash. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, they don’t like it so much, do they.

Rest assured that social conservatives aren’t going to discard fiscal conservatism. We abhor socialism just much as most other Republicans do. We hate wasteful spending and we also want lower taxes. We support a simpler and fairer tax system. We support the troops and we want victory in Iraq. Don’t worry Ms. Corning, we aren’t going to throw your issues to the side like you did ours. We will stand up and fulfill our promises.

No longer will we fall in line and do as we are told because we want all the issues.

The Republican Challenge

I have been hearing conservative voices far and wide saying that Republicans of all breeds should put their division aside and get behind the chosen candidates. You know what I wholeheartedly agree. The problem is that it seems that these voices seem to be all talk. They do not seem to be willing to back this up with action. Instead these voices seem to be intent on covering the recent power change in the Republican Party of Iowa and the soap opera going on behind the scenes. This just gives the Democrats ammunition to use against us in the run up to the general election. I will be the first to say that we have been no better; however there is one clear difference. We have begun promoting our candidates and showing why our guys and gals are better than the Demomcrats. This is not to say that we have been the only ones to do so, but if you were to look around they are few and far between.

The party needs to come to the realization that the donations quite possibly will not be there this year. We don’t have a rockstar of a presidential candidate. Because of this conservatives across the spectrum need to devise strategies that will help us win in November that does not rely on massive amounts of campaign contributions. This will not be easy, but then again there is the old saying that nothing worth having comes easy. The Democrats will raise more money than us this year. The sooner we realize this, the sooner we can change our strategy to reflect this truth. Our party needs to run a grassroots campaign that exploits the fact that the Democrats have more money.

I know that a lot of people don’t like Mike Huckabee, however we can take lessons from his campaign. He ran his Iowa campaign on a shoestring budget, he was outspent by a large margin, and yet he was able to win the Iowa caucus handily. Surely we can use his campaign as a guide in how to campaign with little funds.

We have to stop this incessant and childish finger pointing, it serves no useful purpose. It only serves to give the Democrats an edge. They will say that if we can’t get along with each other just how do we plan to run the government. And you know what, they would be right. If we can’t get along with each other we don’t deserve to win.

And so I put this challenge forth to all Republicans. I challenge you to put aside your petty differences so that we can find a way to take back our government. I know I for one plan on doing everything that I can to elect Republicans in November.
