They’re Still Asking: Why Not Huckabee?

The article that follows was written by JustGrace and originally published online at Wise Republic on June 14, 2011:

How are they doing now–those enthusiastic Huckabee believers posting “Run, Huck, Run” signs on Facebook just before Mike Huckabee’s momentous announcement of whether he would run for President for 2012?

Not surprisingly, his loyal political supporters were saddened, shocked, and let down by his announcement that he will not run “this year.” But they are trying to understand. And they are looking for signs of hope for a future run.

May 14, 2011—the date Governor Huckabee chose for his statement—was the day many thought he would enter the Republican presidential primary race. In Iowa, supporters planned a Stuck on Huck rally for June. Another Huckaboom (you have to know his history in Iowa, 2007-2008) was set to begin. However, the live announcement, tacked on to the end of the Fox News Huckabee show was not what they expected.

“All the factors say GO,” Huckabee told the nation, “but my heart says NO.”

The race that had been ready to explode out of the blocks would wait for another day.

All the political signs looked promising for a victorious outcome, both in the primary election against other Republicans, as well as in the general election against President Obama. Polls consistently placed Huckabee at or near the top; his name recognition was growing; and his favorability ratings were consistently best among Republican “likely” candidates. Ed Rollins, his 2008 national campaign director, wanted him to run. (He has now gone off to help Rep. Michele Bachman, R-MN, whom Huckabee in typical, gracious manner calls a friend.) It seemed that everyone was convinced Huckabee should run except himself.

As runner-up in the 2008 Republican primary and now a popular television show host, the former Governor from Arkansas and 2008 presidential candidate has maintained an enviable cadre of grassroots supporters and has gained many new fans as well. If he decides at some future point to run, or if he is drafted as a candidate or picked as a Vice Presidential running mate, you can be certain he will have an immediate group of supporters still eager to help him.

Hope does not die easily for their candidate from Hope, Arkansas. Fans note that Huckabee has not said “never;” he only said, “I will not seek the Republican nomination for President this year.” Perhaps, they dream, this leaves a door open for “next year” or in 2016. Or, by some miracle, the Republicans might come begging him to run! Huckabee has not ruled out anything completely, because he believes it is foolish to say “never.” But he is definitely not planning a 2012 candidacy.

But then, George Washington said he would never run, either. Maybe the reluctant candidate makes the best President, after all.

The reasons to hope may not be all that far-fetched, as time will perhaps tell. Huckabee has one big advantage that has widened his appeal—his own amazing ability to communicate with people. He is a master at debating calmly and with reason. And when he talks directly to the people he connects. His personal kindness and humor, as well as his common sense and simple government politics, have immediate appeal. The Huckabee show on Fox News and his Huckabee Report on ABC radio affiliates have allowed him to gain the public ear with what he is best at: meeting people, hosting guests on his show with unusual grace, and talking about life and politics in a way that resonates with most Americans.

So what stopped the popular and successful former Governor of Arkansas (amazingly the first Republican to hold that office in his state since Reconstruction) from running? Clearly it was the calling of God that was most important to Mike Huckabee, the man. Not what the pundits said was possible or impossible. And he said that God did not give him the go-ahead to run this time.

His fans wanted a different answer, yet most of them can appreciate Huckabee wanting to follow God’s will. Even though political strategists ranging from Lanny Davis, Democrat strategist, to Dick Morris, Fox News commentator/consultant, agreed that he was the one to beat President Obama, Governor Huckabee gets his marching orders from a higher commander-in-chief. As he said, God gave him the “a peace that exceeds human understanding” about this decision. Of course, that is what his supporters would hope candidates have before they run: peace with God, family, and others, but mostly within the person running for office. The presidency is a demanding and serious job. I would guess most candidates privately pray at least a little before attempting something so life changing.

In the 2008 race, the former Arkansas governor did feel a clear calling from God that he was supposed to do this–to enter a campaign that almost no one expected him to win. He surprised everyone by winning the Iowa caucuses and finishing second to Senator John McCain in the Republican primaries. Had he received a little help from the Republican establishment and a little less opposition from talk show hosts like Limbaugh and Levin and some in the Republican establishment, we might now have a President Mike Huckabee. Americans would all know how to pronounce his last name by now. Yet this year God apparently gave him a different direction. As Huckabee explained it, God just did not make him comfortable with that “Yes” answer. Huckabee is unlikely to change his mind unless God changes it for him.

As one who has studied Governor Huckabee and became a fan of this genuinely likeable and accomplished man over the past several years, I find him to be a man of his word. I cannot recall a time that he promised things he did not intend to deliver. He never purposely led people astray or lacked gratitude for his avid supporters. Because of the groundswell of support for him to run, he saw the need to not let this indecision drag on. Early May he realized there was a need to make a difficult decision and give an announcement. People could not be held in limbo much longer. Fox News was soon to ask for a “yes” or “no” on a new contract for his popular Huckabee show.

The part that Huckabee regrets most deeply is hurting his loyal, hard-working, and expectant supporters. In his announcement he mentioned “especially…those who have faithfully and so sacrificially been part of the process. I know I will deeply disappoint many people I love. So many good and dear people have put forth extraordinary effort without any assurance I would mount a campaign. It pains me to let them down.”

On various websites, posts like this one by a Huckabee loyalist show that most are working through the stages of grief: “I was sad and upset for a couple of weeks. But you will always be the best man for the job. If you decide to run I will still work to help you win.”

Most of the folks who admire Huckabee understand his unashamed beliefs and relationship with Jesus Christ; they cannot help but admire that he puts God above fame or fortune. So their disappointment is eased by their admiration and acceptance. Americans in general still respect a person who wants to be at peace with God regarding such a major decision, even if they do not understand God’s ways in this instance. They like a person who is true to his principles. While the army of Huckabee loyalists floundered a bit, most will take a deep breath and begin to pray that some future day God will give the opportunity, the loud and clear call that would lead Huckabee to the White House or at least to the Vice Presidency. In the meantime (if the former governor has his way) they will throw their efforts behind some of his other projects, such as helping Huck PAC to elect a strong majority of Republicans in the House and Senate, as well as in state governor races in 2012.

For now, God seems to be calling Mike Huckabee to be more of a Jeremiah — a prophet to draw this nation back to its godly heritage and Constitutional roots. Some of the projects that will be keeping him quite busy–like the Learn Our History video series he is helping produce for kids–give indication of that direction in his life. And he will be fighting against big government growth with efforts such as his recent phone appeals and television ads calling for a repeal of Obamacare. We can expect that he will have plenty to say on Fox News as a political commentator this next election cycle. He can understand better than most the inner dynamics of the presidential and gubernatorial races, certainly far better than pundits who have never subjected themselves to the grueling, grinding election process that has become today’s political climate of personal destruction.

But we can’t leave this discussion without remembering our first reluctant President, George Washington.

As the popular commander of the colonial forces, Washington believed that the new Republic that was being formed after the American Revolution needed to eschew the idea of imperialistic Great Britain and other European kingdoms, of making one popular, powerful man too powerful. “No King but Jesus” was our country’s political cry of the late Eighteenth Century. When the newly formed United States of America had its own critical struggle to come to agreement on the wording of the Constitution, they realized what was needed was a man in charge who could bring the various states and their ideas of government together. They needed Washington’s example, courage, faith, experience, and strength of character, as well as his ability to lead people. And he had a quality that Huckabee has, of finding the best in all the leaders and putting it together so that progress could be made and a goal accomplished.

George Washington was the first Commander-in-Chief of the colonial army, but in 1783 he voluntarily resigned so that concentration of power would not lie in one man. However, the people loved and appreciated this humble leader; the consensus at home and abroad was that he should become the first President and retain the role of commander-in-chief for the fledgling nation. When the electors of all the Thirteen Colonies had cast their sealed votes it was unanimous. And when the news came to him that he was elected Washington said, “I cannot give a greater evidence of my sensibility for the honor my fellow citizens have done me, than by accepting the appointment.”

Could the day come for Governor Huckabee to be drafted and for him to say that he will accept the appointment in honor of his fellow citizens? While we live in a vastly different United States from the one in which Washington lived, the government and its future success are hanging in the balance as then. Anything is possible. Many political advisors and people recognize that Governor Huckabee may be exactly what America needs. Like Washington, Huckabee is reluctant to place himself in a political process that has become, unfortunately, a demolition derby instead of a race.

When the need seems so great, hope does not die. Many people believe Governor Mike Huckabee would have made one of the more outstanding Presidents our nation has ever had. In this troubled time it is evident that the wrong choice of President could cause the nation to fail, as is occurring under President Obama. Yet, by God’s grace an exceptional choice could be found to inspire us again to greatness, to be a “shining city on a hill.” If it were clear that Huckabee would get the kind of support needed, I think God might just change His answer to, “Go ahead and win.”

Huckabee had this to say about his new book in an email to supporters:

Just when I think the Obama Administration can’t possibly pile on more debt, more job-killing regulations, and more intrusions into our private lives, they surprise me. So I decided to sum up why I disagree with them about spending, taxes, health care, immigration, terrorism… and just about every other issue.

And while I was pondering our current problems, I kept thinking about the Founding Fathers. They understood that the best government is a simple government. They wrote the entire Constitution in about 20 pages of plain English. Compare that to the Obamacare bill alone — more than 2,000 pages of gobbledygook!

Don’t get me wrong — I know that problems like unemployment and national security are complex. But the principles that can solve them are simple: personal liberty, accountability, standing up to bullies, putting local government ahead of Washington, and putting the family ahead of everything.

In short, A SIMPLE GOVERNMENT is about the twelve things we really need from Washington — and a trillion that we don’t.

Governor Huckabee has stated that he will decide if he is going to run for President again by the end of this summer but it looks like Iowa is already getting a taste of some ninety degree weather.

Iowa Supreme Court Impeachment and Grassroots Support

On April 3, 2009, when the seven Iowa Supreme Court justices unanimously attempted to legalize same-sex marriage in the state many citizens believed their rights had been trampled on and their voices silenced because they never had a chance to vote on the issue.  Those that celebrated the destruction of the definition of marriage declared victory after using seven black robes who over-stepped their Constitutional duties by injecting their personal views into their decision and then legislating that view from the bench.  Because Iowa has such a complicated and long process to pass an amendment to the Constitution, the gay rights activists thought that the ruling was safe because the people of Iowa would “forget” by the time they could vote on a Marriage Amendment.

What wasn’t foreseen, however, on if people were going to “forget” is the 2010 gubernatorial primary in which the candidate Bob Vander Plaats made judicial activism the center of his campaign in response to the 2009 marriage ruling.  Unforseen also was former Governor Terry Branstad’s entrance into the race that put an end to Vander Plaats’ governor aspirations on June 8th only to have him launch another initiative, Iowa For Freedom, against the three of the seven judges on the Supreme Court who were up for a retention vote.  On November 2nd, more than a year and a half after the Varnum v. Brien decision, the initiative was a remarkable success and those three activist judges were soundly rebuked by the people of Iowa when they finally got to have some sort of say in the matter and were removed from the bench.  In the almost two months since the people of Iowa voted “no” on the retention of the three judges on the Iowa Supreme Court the media is still fascinated by the story and liberals are still complaining about a system they fully supported until the people of Iowa decided to use it.

There is now an initiative coming from three incoming House of Representative freshmen legislators who are drafting the necessary legislation to start the impeachment process, which is within Constitutional guidelines, against the four remaining Supreme Court justices .  Kim Pearson (district 42), Tom Shaw (district 8 ) and Glen Massie (district 74) are the newly elected Iowa House members who are invoking this procedure in order to deal with the remaining judges who were just as wrong as the three who overwhelmingly were voted to be removed.  Bob Vander Plaats, who is now President and CEO of The Family Leader, has taken a different approach and is encouraging the remaining judges to do the right thing and resign which would alleviate the need for the impeachment process.  Either way, it looks like it will be a long time yet before Iowans “forget” April 3, 2009, while conservatives of conviction work on reigning in out of control courts and pushing for a Marriage Amendment on the ballot.

The impeachment process will take grassroots support to show that the government is still about “we the people.”  Please contact your State Representative and State Senator and tell them that you support holding the judiciary accountable.  You can also sign this petition in order to show your support of the Articles of Impeachment.

Mike Huckabee’s Visit to Iowa: The Beginning of the Beginning?

I have kept up to date on political news regarding the 2012 Republican presidential nomination for over two years.  The central theme that has come from most pundits on the Republican side  is that “Huckabee won’t run.”  After hearing this for two years I am now convinced that this opinion is more of state of denial than a stated fact.  I have watched poll after poll come out and have seen Governor Huckabee’s name at the top or near the top for Republicans’ choice for their next nominee.  Even though the conservative media pushes other candidates, such as Mitt Romney or Sarah Palin, and leaves Huckabee’s name out of the conversation completely or hits him with some cheap shots, the people are adament; they still want Mike Huckabee.  Perhaps someday the Republican elite will be forced to accept that.

This Sunday, November 21, the 2008 caucus winner will make his first trip to Iowa since the midterms to be the keynote speaker at Iowa Family Police Center Action’s “Celebrate the Family” event.  This trip to Iowa alone raised eyebrows about a possible run for the White House, but not as much as what Huckabee has been saying about the event.  First there was this statement from Huck PAC’s Executive Director, Hogan Gidley, stating the purpose of Governor Huckabee’s visit to Iowa when there was some confusion on what he will be speaking about at the event.  Next there was the interview that Mike Huckabee did with Steve Deace on the largest Iowa radio station in the days leading up to the event in which he seemed to be basically marking his territory and touching on all points important to the Iowa caucus voter, and he also made it clear that the door is open for another run.

So, when those on Huckabee’s same team who hate him because he is not one of them say that “he won’t run” I realize that they are actually saying a silent prayer because what is evident to me is also clearly evident to them.  It may be Mike Huckabee that the confetti will fall on during the next Republican National Convention and it also is likely it may be him we are swearing-in as President of the United States in 2013.

Mike Huckabee Coming to Iowa

Governor Mike Huckabee will be making his first trip to Iowa since the conclusion of the midterm elections in which his Political Action Committee was very successful assisting 94 candidates across the nation at all levels of government with their wins, which is a 75% success rate, and ten of those victories were in Iowa.  In polling news Huckabee has defeated President Obama by 8 points in a head-to-head match-up and was also the favorite for the Republican nomination if he chooses to run in 2012.  He has a new policy book coming out in February which I am sure will include a book tour and possible another visit to Iowa in the future.

On Sunday, November 21st, Governor Huckabee will be the keynote speaker at the Celebrate the Family event put on by Iowa Family Policy Center Action.  It will be held at First Federated Church in Des Moines from 2:00-5:00 p.m.  At 2:00 p.m. there will be hors d’ oeuvres and dessert buffet and the program will begin at 3:00 p.m.  Huckabee will be using his experience as a pastor turned politician to address the need for the church to engage in our culture to preserve family values.

The invite from IFPC Action included this information about the event:

Governor Huckabee will be speaking about the role of the church regarding God-honoring civics, the current assault on life, marriage and family, and what it means to be a Christian statesman. The afternoon will include a dessert & hors d’ oeuvres buffet, praise and worship music, and exciting new announcements regarding the Iowa Family Policy Center Action. Come join us for an inspiring afternoon!

Please visit the Celebrate Family section on the Iowa Family Policy Center website.  There are special opportunities for sponsorship, a special invite to pastors and churches, and $25 general admission reservations.

Iowa Family Policy Center and Bob Vander Plaats are Helping Kent Sorenson

There seems to be some confusion on a Republican website regarding the Kent Sorenson vs. Staci Appel race in Iowa Senate district 37.  The confusion is not on who is the better candidate (Sorenson) but on who has got his back in this personal and down-right ugly race in the website’s latest post.

It’s also disappointing that more people have not come to the defense of Sorenson.  For the past two years, Sorenson has carried a lot of water at the Statehouse for conservative organizations like the Iowa Family Policy Center (IFPC).  He was there for them when they needed him, but where are they when he needs help?  The same goes for Bob Vander Plaats, who Sorenson supported in the GOP gubernatorial primary.  Sadly, IFPC probably can’t be of much assistance to Sorenson because most of its staff has either quit or was fired in recent weeks after Vander Plaats came on board as the new CEO of IFPC’s parent organization.

Since I am closely aligned with voters in this district I know for a fact that Bob Vander Plaats sent out a personal letter to Kent Sorenson supporters giving them a page of reasons on why we need him in the Iowa Senate and to donate directly to his campaign.  The Iowa Family Policy Center sent out a sleek-looking voter guide to people in that distract comparing Sorenson’s record to Appel’s liberal agenda.  The IFPC also sent out an additional 20,000 piece mailer to the district in support of Sorenson with Staci Appel’s home phone number.  It looks like The Iowa Republican either failed to check the facts or purposely ignored them for their own personal vengeance.

What I am wondering is why it took a Republican website so long to come to the defense of one of its own.  Kent Sorenson has been under Staci Appel’s attack for quite some time now and there is just now an article on it?  And embedded in the article is a couple of hit jobs on the same person and organization that the website rallied against during the Republican primaries?  And not only that it makes reference to a Vander Plaats’ position at IFPC that hasn’t even been announced yet and gives undocumented names of people quitting or being fired?

I realize that Kent Sorenson needs all the help he can get against Staci Appel and her attacks but using the story to embed a personal vendetta with fabricated facts is just plain bad journalism.

Press Release: Two Oskaloosa Ministers Call on Local Faith Leaders to Educate Their Congregations on Election Day Issues

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: MARK DOLAND  641-295-0135

Two Oskaloosa ministers call on local faith leaders to educate their congregations on election day issues. OSKALOOSA, IA- Ministers Bill Tvedt and Mark Doland are calling on community faith leaders to educate their congregations on election day issues.

We seek to know where each candidate stands on key issues in this very important upcoming election. The two take responsibility for a lackadaisical approach to educating their members in the past. Both acknowledge that they are committed to making a change this election cycle to avoid the “hope and change” that we have witnessed the past couple of years.

“We have folks in our congregation that are out of work while they struggle to feed their families,” said Doland.   He continued, “we cannot continue on the path of big spending and then bonding to cover for our poor financial decisions. We are putting our children and grandchildren so far in debt they will never be able to see daylight. “

Other issues that are very important to our members are abortion, “gay marriage,” and judicial activism. We have become educated on these issues when they all come front and center on April 3, 2009. Varnum vs. Brien was a case that causes us much pause. We recognize for many years that we have accepted the premise of Roe vs. Wade as the law of the land. Our predecessors have tried to fight the decision by treating it as law and trying to legislate around it.

We have resolved to educate ourselves by studying the constitutional separation of powers. It was not widely known that the court’s interpretation of the constitution did not include the power to change or execute the law, nor make a new law. It is very clear that the Iowa Supreme Court went well beyond their constitutional jurisdiction, usurping the authority of the legislature and the Governor’s office, and most importantly, we the people.

“This decision has many of our friends and families wondering how this could happen in Iowa” Tvedt said. He continued, ” Whether you agree with the issue of marriage is not the main cause for concern, but rather, the ability for the judges in this case to codify any liberty we hold dear without the accountability of the electorate.”

While we believe very strongly that traditional marriage is the foundational institution that our country is based on, you could insert any freedom that we now enjoy in the blank that could be up for grabs. Our members are now educated on these issues and are activated and engaged.  We educate our members on the issues, and then encourage them to vote their consciences.

We call on all faith leaders to educate their congregations on these important issues as to how they line up with the Holy Word of God. We have for far too long been silent on our civil responsibility in selecting those who rule over us. Exodus 18:21 tells us “Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders-NASB.

Kent Sorenson: You Can’t, and Won’t, Keep a Good Man Down

Kent Sorenson realized even before Republicans got annihilated in 2008 that you cannot give lip service to voters and then do nothing or do the opposite of what was promised once elected.  One could probably say that Kent was Tea Party before Tea Party was cool.

In 2008 he caught his opponent, an entrenched Democrat incumbent in the Iowa House, off-guard and defeated him by just a handful of votes by utilizing a strong grassroots network and honest hard work with a message that spoke to the voters in his district.  A message of reducing the size of government and cutting spending while protecting our 2nd Amendment rights and fighting for the unborn and one man and one woman marriage, and then promising to go to the statehouse and deliver on his word.  Kent Sorenson has been a remarkable state representative in the past two legislative sessions.

Two years later he has decided to give up his seat in the Iowa House and take on Staci Appel for the Iowa Senate seat in district 37.  Appel is the most liberal member of  the State Senate and has made it very clear that Kent is not going to take her by surprise in this race.  In fact the amount of money she, along with her colleague Mike Gronstal, both have spent in order to tear Kent Sorenson down in this election is staggering.  It seems that instead of focusing on her own pathetic liberal record, she has instead resorted to unprecedented attacks on Kent and his family.  Where does Appel get the money to run this type of campaign?  It looks like there is some interest in her campaign from out-of-state contributors.

This race has been labeled many things.  It has been called the “ground zero” for the fight for traditional marriage as Staci Appel is married to one of the Iowa Supreme Court justices who was a part of the unanimous ruling that declared Iowa a same-sex “marriage” state, it has been categorized as a good old fashion battle of ideologies as Appel defends and holds the banner high for liberalism and Sorenson’s unwavering conservatism drives his every political move.  There is no mushy middle in this one that we see in so many races both in Iowa and nationally.  There is also the dynamic of this race that seems to be front and center in almost every high-profile race across the nation.  A political class elitist like Appel vs. hometown hero Sorenson born out the need to take our state and country back.

It really doesnt’ matter how the Iowa Senate district 37 race is classified.  What really matters is the outcome.  With Kent Sorenson’s victory on November 2nd the people of Iowa who want to rid Iowa of the liberal agenda that does not represent them will be the winners.

The “Judge Bus” is Coming to Iowa

Family Research Council Action and the National Organization for Marriage are joining IFPC Action for a road trip here in Iowa.  The bus trip, which will make stops at 45 of Iowa’s 99 counties and travel over 1,300 miles in four days, will kick-off at the State Capitol on October 25th and end at a rally at the Iowa Supreme Court building on October 28th.

The “Judge Bus” is a perfect way to lead into the November 2nd general election in which the people of Iowa will finally have a say in what three Iowa Supreme Court judges did on April 3, 2009.

Here is the bus tour schedule as it stands today but please check www.judgebus.com for updates.

Kim Pearson: “I am not part of the political establishment so I am beholden to no one.”

Geri Huser is the Democrat representing the 42nd district in the Iowa House.  This district is made up of eastern Polk county (Altoona) and part of Jasper county.  She has been a fixture in that area as she assumed office in 1996 and has even run un-opposed during some election cycles, but not this time.

Kim Pearson won the June 8th Republican primary to become Huser’s challenger.  Kim does not come from the political class, but instead is one of the great Americans who have risen up to the challenge to take our state and country back.  She has a B.A. in political science and a law degree but describes herself on her website as “a wife and mother who is passionate about God, family and our country.”

Democrats have controlled eastern Polk county for quite some time and Kim Pearson is looking like she may upset that apple cart.  I have included a Q & A with Kim Pearson in this post and for more information on her please visit her website.

What is your stand on same-sex marriage and why do you hold that view?

I believe marriage is between one man and one woman and I support an Iowa Marriage Amendment.  Incumbent, liberal Geri Huser supports gay marriage and voted to deny Iowans the right to vote on the Marriage Amendment.

What is your opinion of the state budget and what could or should be done differently, if you feel that something should be changed?

Simply put, out state budget is not balanced and it is disingenuous to assert otherwise.  For the next fiscal year, liberals at the State Capitol have committed Iowans to $1.1 billion in spending without the ongoing revenue needed to fund it.  Every department/expenditure must be evaluated in light of our constitution and in light of efficacy.

We need conservative leadership to begin the process of eliminating big government programs that encourage dependency and return our State government to its rightful limited role.

What do you think of the status of unemployment in our state?

Iowa businesses face multiple threats:  President Obama’s healthcare law (which Geri Huser supports); some of the highest income tax rates in the country; and, now, efforts supported by Geri Huser to overturn our historic right-to-work law.  Unemployment will only get worse unless conservative steps are taken to make Iowa a business friendly state.

I will sponsor a Missouri-style “no Universal Health Care” law; stop the liberal spending programs; sponsor legislation to reduce taxes; and, defend Iowa’s Right-to-Work Law.

What is a big hot button issue within the district that you are honing in on and what’s your take on that issue?

The big hot button is “We the People” against the liberal collectivism agenda espoused by Obama, Culver, Iowa House Leader Pat Murphy and his followers like incumbent Geri Huser.  House District 42 voters want: economic growth; enforcement of our immigration laws; stopping government run health care; and, the right to vote on the definition of marriage. What we don’t want is: job killing government debt and high taxes; welfare benefits for illegal aliens; government run health care; and, liberal judges who ignore the constitution and think that they are better than the people they serve.

Finally, why should people vote for you?

I am the conservative constitutional alternative to the liberal agenda.   Our State legislators should be protecting us and instead they have sold us out!   I am not part of the political establishment so I am beholden to none.

I am an outspoken advocate for “We the People.”   I will sponsor legislation protecting Iowans against federally mandated universal healthcare and will sponsor an Arizona style anti-illegal alien law. I will promote a healthy business climate in Iowa by stopping liberal spending programs; reducing burdensome taxes; and, by protecting Iowa’s Right-to-Work.   I will fight for pro-life and pro-traditional marriage legislation.
