Tomorrow, April 9th, there will be the first procedural vote to bring the Iowa Marriage Amendment (IMA) to the floor. Now is the time for action!
Be Sure to Wear Red To Identify Yourself as a Supporter of Marriage.
Who: Every Iowan Who Supports Marriage.
What: A Day of Lobbying for the Iowa Marriage Amendment.
Where: Meet us at the West Terrace of the Iowa Capitol (west of the Capitol steps, towards downtown).
When: 8:30 – A time of prayer followed by comments from IFPC Action Board Chair Danny Carroll.
Why: Because it is time to demand action from the legislature on the IMA
NOTE: Parking at the Capitol is always an issue. Come early to find a parking spot. Guest Parking may be easiest to find in the parking garage (1 block West of the Capitol) on the Northwest Corner of the intersection of East Grand and Pennsylvania Ave.
Iowa Family Policy Center has sent out this action alert:
Thank you for your interest in protecting marriage!
The Iowa House DOES have time to pass the Iowa Marriage Amendment, also known as HJR 6.
HJR 6 is the first step toward giving Iowans the chance to vote to protect marriage, in response to the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling.
In order to debate HJR 6, the House must force it out of committee with a procedural vote. The House Republicans are prepared to initiate this procedural vote, but to pass it we need your help!
We only have 43 votes, and we need 51 to pass the procedural vote so HJR 6 can be voted on. Please contact the House Democrats listed below, and tell them to vote to bring HJR 6 out of committee.
THERE ARE NO LEGITIMATE EXCUSES FOR VOTING AGAINST THIS CRITICAL PROCEDURAL VOTE! In this case, a “no” vote on procedure is a “no” vote on traditional marriage.
The following Democrats have indicated they support traditional marriage. Therefore, they SHOULD vote to bring the IMA out of committee. Call AND email them repeatedly until they commit! You may also consider knocking on their door.

Until We Meet Again Rich
January 20, 2012 by Al Bregar 3 Comments
In the short time that I had to get to know Richard I found him to be one of the most intellectually honest political activists I have ever known. His constructive criticism has guided many other activists to be more honest about the issues. His quiet confidence also had a way of instilling those around him with more confidence as well. And when it came to the principles that founded our nation, Rich was unwavering.
I also found Richard to be one of those rare individuals with which it was virtually impossible to not like. And when he was your friend he stood by your side through thick and thin. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
My relationship with Rich began initially on Facebook. Though we come from distinctly backgrounds we both shared a passion for Iowa politics. This passion helped grow our relationship and quickly we began trying to find ways to unite Iowa conservatives in an effort to put forth a united front for the advancement of the principles of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. As our relationship grew I came to view Rich as more of a brother than a simple acquaintance. As our mutual friend Caree Severson so fondly states, he was truly a brother from another mother.
And so tomorrow we will gather in Huxley, IA to celebrate the richness that his life brought to all of us. We will gather to share the stories that characterized our relationships with Rich. We will lean on each other for emotional support as we mourn the possibilities that might have been. And we will look forward to the day that we are reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven. And so tomorrow we will say farewell to our friend and our brother Richard Auwerda, rest in peace at the side of the Lord until we meet again.
